    JIFFY LUBE
I didn't have a problem with them.  They are speedy.  I took my car there and I told them I had to go to the store.  I went to the store and by the time I got back they were done with what they had to do.

    Whalen Automotive
As usual, the wait time was reasonable in their comfortable waiting room (with free WiFi & coffee). They let me know that the brake fluid needed to be changed, as well, & were able to reset the "reminder" lights that had been driving me crazy -- my car's 'computer' system is enough to challenge anyone. Pleasant, professional & knowledgeable -- they're real mechanics, not a group of one-problem techs. The receptionist knows cars & car problems, as well, so I always feel confident about their services from the initial phone call through the the finished job. I've used Whalen's before with both my old car & the new one, and they've always been responsive -- whether it's mechanical repair, check-ups, oil, or parts replacement.

    FRANCIS AUTO CENTER
Francis is old school hard days work for a fair days pay. Improvises where he can to save money used parts etc. Explained to me why lifetime brakes are as scam as one example. He's fair, honest and, as I said, hard working.

    Mavis Discount Tire - Latham
First of all - I thought everything was going to go fine.  I purchased the tires on the Internet & made a "drop off" appointment that had the terms - "drop the car off and it will be ready in 3 hours".  I dropped the car off Sunday, 09/14/14 at 9:00am, and received a phone call at 10:30am saying the car was "all set"....GREAT.  When I picked the car up, before paying I carefully checked the alloy wheel rims for any potential damage.....sure enough, one of the rims had "scuff marks" on it.  After talking with Rodney (Service Manager - who by the way is a very pleasant fellow); we settled on a $100. price adjustment, and I would take care of getting the Alloy Wheel re-finished.....all seemed fine - until I came home from work Tuesday evening and my wife found a wheel weight in the driveway.  I immediately drove over to Mavis to show Rodney this, and he agreed to rebalance all four wheels that night.  After waiting around for one hour, they finally got to my car and placed it in the bay right next to the waiting room windows.  I watched as the "mechanic" worked on the car - he placed each of the wheels into the wheel balancing machine - and I was watching carefully - he placed one single "clip on" wheel weight on each of the wheels.  It seemed as if he was in a feverish hurry to get this job done.  Oh, and I was also told by another employee there that these "clip on" wheel weights "always fall off"?!?  So now - fast forward to me getting the car back; driving home, and everything again "seemed ok" - until the next morning - I was driving to work and was about 100 yards from my house when I heard a loud "thunk" under the car in the wheel well - I turned around and searched the street and guess what?...yep....another wheel weight flew off!!  At that point, I decided it would be useless to go back to this Mavis and get the same type of wheel weight again.  I called my car dealer and discussed if there where OEM special weights to balance these wheels and he said that the wheels need to be carefully cleaned off and "stick on" weights are what they recommend.  I made an appointment with the dealer to have them rebalance the wheels (today) and then proceeded to call Mavis Corporate headquarters to file a complaint about the quality of service I received.  I was told a district manager would call me back, and sure enough, within two hours I did get a phone call.  After explaining the entire situation, the District Manager agreed to refund me $10. per wheel ($40 + Tax total), and I would get the wheels rebalanced at my dealership ($60. + Tax total).  I had to go to Mavis to collect my refund, which I did....Rodney waited on me and even with all the trouble with this job, he was still pleasant with me.  Overall - the company works with you to resolve issues - but - there shouldn't be so many issues in the first place.  The employees here all seemed rushed, and they are trying to fit 10 hours of work into an 8 hour day - not good and it shows in the quality of workmanship - oh and yes the core business here is tires, so you would think they could use quality wheel weights that stay on the wheel?

Went great.  Replaced rear suspension parts that caused my vehicle to fail the NYS inspection.
One of the most honest mechanics I've ever met if not the most honest and that is rare in the automotive repair business.

Took my old worn out van for brake work.  After they looked everything
over, they were decent enough to estimate all that needed to be done
(more than brakes).  Based upon all relevant facts, they suggested that
rather than pay to fix the van, I'd be better off putting the money
towards a new car.  And, they didn't charge me a dime for the time they
spent checking things out.  You don't find this kind of honesty in the
    auto repair world too often.

Again, I have been there several times, so there are multiple stories, I remember a brake job back in the nineties where they really took time to explain my options, time, vs., dependability vs., cost.

    GENE KYEA'S AUTOMOTIVE
The mechanic performed a diagnostic and determined that the source of the problem was a faulty switch inside my car's transmission. He suggested I return to the dealer and have them fix the problem because it would still be covered by my warranty. He only charged me about $40 for the diagnostic portion of the work which was very good of them. He closed up the transmission and sent me on my way. The dealer, however determined the source of the problem as some faulty wiring and after some price dickering did complete the work to my satisfaction. The dealer also alerted me to the fact that the transmission was leaking fluid like crazy and that they could fix that for an additional $100. I turned them down and promptly returned to Kyea's so they could address the leak issue which he agreed to do. Upon arriving to pick up my vehicle, he wanted to bill me over $100 to repair the leak that he initially caused. When I politely refused, he said I could take further business elsewhere.
