    Double R Masonry Inc.
When I called Ron about repairing my basement wall, he indicated that he was going to be out of town for a week and would call me upon his return.  He did call  promptly and we set up a time for him to come to the house.  He arrived on time, explained how he would fix the wall and answered all my questions.  The work  was performed quickly and met all my expectations.  I would not hesitate to use his services again.

This was a terrible experience, for several reasons. We had just moved into a new house, and despite repeatedly giving them the correct address to perform their initial quote, they kept going to the old house and providing quotes for it. They did this 3 times, with about a week between trips. On the fourth try, they finally went to the correct house, and we got a quote for the work we were looking to have done. We were assured repeatedly that this was a family business - one brother performs the evaluation of the work to be done, and the other brother comes out to the site to perform the work. A key part of what we wanted done was to have the mortar on our 2 story tall stone arch over the front doorway touched up. We pointed out to the brother that performed the work scoping where we were talking about, and he took pictures of it. When we got the work order document, it looked good and covered everything we had talked about. It even called out that a ladder would be required to reach the upper levels of the facade, etc. So far, not too bad - delays in timing and repeated confusion about the address I could live with and write off as simple miscommunication.
However, when the scheduled time for the work to be done arrived, two people showed up who were not part of the family, and they did not even perform the work that was listed in the work order. They spent about 10 minutes performing touchups that were easily reached, then told my wife they were done. She explained to them that we had paid for 4 hours of work, and that they had not even done what specified in the work order. They took another 15 minutes touching up more spots around the front of the house, then said tried to leave without checking in this time. My wife was watching them, however, and stopped them. This time she waited until they got out the ladder, and she stayed outside with them the entire time pointing out each area they were supposed to touch up. I was out of town on business when this occurred - when I got back to town I contacted them and they apologized for the confusion, but made no other concessions for the poor service. *sigh*
Between the terrible communication skills, the outright lie about whom would perform the work, the unprofessional attitude of the workmen, and the apparent lack of concern from the owners, there is no way I would use this contractor again.

    James Rose Outdoor Services, Inc.
Everything looks fabulous!  They did a great job in the backyard pulling out the old vegetable beds and play area and charged us less than our regular landscape company had quoted us for the job.  In the front on the steps and the walkway, they did a beautiful job.  The masons were very good at their job and they were determined to fix the mistakes the original installers made.  They clearly take pride in their work and wanted to make it look right and last.   I think the job took probably twice as long as they thought it would because of what they found after they got into the job, but they honored their quote and didn't charge me a penny more.  The front walkway looks beautiful too and we will definitely have them come back in the spring to power wash our back patio and put down polymetric sand there too.  We'll also have them fix our back stairs, which are also sinking a little.
The manager, Chris, is extremely personable, knowledgeable, professional and easy to work with.  We are very impressed with James Rose and plan to drop the landscape business we've used for the past 13 years and will start using James Rose for everything from snow removal to lawn cutting and beyond!

Avon Stove & Fireplace Co Inc
The results in both cases went beyond our expectations: the fireplaces are beautiful to look at and are an outstanding addition to our home.

Avon owner Greg Paul took a personal interest in the project and made several trips to our home - before the project began and also while the project was underway. Avons stonemason, Matt Warren, is a master of his craft and a true artist. Working steadily and with great care, he created a beautiful and unique stone facade framing each fireplace. It was a pleasure to have him working in our home.

The people at Avon are honest, professional, and knowledgeable. The quality of their work is superb, and their prices are very reasonable. We highly recommend them.

    AAA Masonry
AAA Masonry started the job late and then never finished.  If you are looking for a contractor who shows up on time, lives up to the contract he signed and does a quality job then DO NOT hire Mark Ogden of AAA Masonry.  I have hired many contractors over the years and I have never had such a terrible experience.

    Here are some highlights:

-AAA Masonry was supposed to start the job while we were away on vacation for two weeks over the summer.  I had paid the deposit and we picked the start date.  Mark had my email and phone # for any questions.  Upon our return, the job was not even started.  I had to contact him to get another start date which he blew off again by another week.  Again, I had to track him down and he gave another excuse about how busy he was.

-Stamped concrete has foot print in the middle of it.  I didn't notice it till after his crew had left.   At this point, no one had been near it except his crew.

-Basement window was broken by Mark's crew while pouring the concrete.  I brought this to Mark's attention right after it happened.  Over the next month, he stopped by to pick up a check and  "measured" the window twice but NEVER replaced the window.  I ended up doing it at my own expense.

-His repair to the roof was a piece of plywood covered with tar paper.  The rain pours down around it.  The roof actually leaks MORE then when he started.

-Started to dodge my calls.  He no longer answered his cell, returned voicemails or emails.  He did finally pick up when I used a different phone to call him.  He promised to stop over and he never showed.

My experience with Mark Ogden and AAA Masonry was one of frustration, shoddy workmanship and dishonesty.  Not sure if he is still using the name AAA Masonry, but if you hear the name Mark Ogden, my experience would suggest this is not a man you want to do  business with.

He contacted me right away. Very pleasant, very helpful. I was disappointed he no longer did this type of work. He did give me great advice in my search for someone to do the work.
