    Eye Consultants Of Syracuse

Dr. Spitzer and his staff went out of their way to assure my wife that her concerns were met and addressed, as her 1st cataract surgery (by a different provider did not go well - she was overmedicated and not treated well when she reacted to medication. During pre-surgery, the day of surgery and post-care Dr. Spitzer was available, and called personally twice to check on her afterward. I will be going to him when it's time for me to get the procedure done.

    Derosalia, Dr. Angelo R.
I was so impressed with this office I just couldn't believe it. I think it is part of a group. I had a lesion on my bladder and he had removed it. I had the first visit and they snipped a little piece out of my bladder. The next visit, he handed me a copy of the report and for each visit at the end of the visit, they handed me a copy of the days visit which included the reason for the visit, today's diagnosis, problems, allergies, medications, diagnostic test results, just everything that we went over. I thought that was really cool. It also included my next appointment. I thought, this is great, you couldn't have better communication than this. I really appreciated that. I liked him a lot. He was very personable. He was intelligent and had a really good bedside manner. I have so many medications that I can't remember. I print out them out and also do the same thing in reverse. I write down what my concerns are and I give them a little background. In this case, I had said I am physically active, I swim, I bike, I walk. He came in and he said, I have one question I want you to answer right away, and I said, oh what is that? He said, how long do you swim? In my case, I swim a mile in a shot and he is also a swimmer so we had that right off the bat as common ground.

    Robert J. Weiss. MD, FACS
on Dec 29th 2012, my father was admitted to St Joseph's hospital emergency room. Dr Weiss was the surgeon on call that night. After almost 10 hours waiting he decided that my father needed surgery on his large instestines due to a polyp. My family and I waited in the surgical waiting room over 4 hours when were told by Dr Weiss that the surgery would only take an hour. He finally came in to see us and explain what he did, when we tried to ask questions he told us "don't interup me". He told us that my father would be released within 10 days. My father was in the hospital for over 6 weeks due to his incompetence. When we tried to ask any questions regarding my father's care and his progress Dr Weiss kept saying that my father was old and that it would take time for him to recover. Dr Weiss kept taking my father back into surgery to take care of the infection around the incision that he did. When we tried to ask any questions he treated us like morons. He has a terrible bedside manner and he is rude and crude. My father is 80 yrs old and was in great health before Dr Weiss took his knife to him.  We wanted our father to be transferred to another hospital. Dr Weiss blocked the transfer for over 10 hours. We requested to have another doctor brought in, he refused to listen to us or to respect our wishes. He is a butcher and should not be allowed to operate on anyone. My father needs a skin graft now due to his incomptence. I would not recommend him to anyone.  Dr Weiss put my family thru an ordeal that no one should have to go thru.

    Robert J. Weiss. MD, FACS
My sister has to have  her Thyroid partially removed. He scheduled surgery time was 2pm, with no food or no water, they did not take her until 5:45pm, with no reason why, no emergencies proceeded her, they just left her sitting there. Post surgery she requested a Nicotine patch  as she is a smoker, and did not have a cigarette since waiting to be brought into surgery, which took an extra 3 hours than anticipated. The surgeon also made a point to have her scheduled at 2pm stating anything later would be understandably hard to go without any water or food up to that time, and they still had here sit there (St. Joe's Hospital, under Dr. Weiss' care). My sister waited over 2 hours for the Nicotine patch, and when the nurse still didn't bring one, she asked if she could go outside to smoke. The nurse then told her it was not recommended post surgery, but it is the patient right to go outside to smoke. She waited another 30 minutes for a Nicotine patch, and when no one came, she went outside to smoke. When she returned to her room, Dr. Weiss got in her face screaming and swearing saying "If you pull this stunt again I will kick your a** out of here, if you don't want to be here, than go sign your a** out of here", "I am going to get the nurse supervisor and going to board in the morning", My sister's husband and herself requested he do so, at this time she was in hysterics, as he was in her face screaming. The nurse manager then came in and they told her what happened and she apologized and stated this was NOT the first time he reacted this way toward a patient and strongly recommended they file a formal complaint, which they did. My sister also is highly allergic to Latex, and they even took extra blood work to test for the latex allergy. Post surgery and coming home she was having severe itching and swelling on her incision, on her neck. She called the nurses' surgeon, who had a horrible attitude because I talked to her myself, and they told her she was having an allergic reaction to the glue they used being a latex derivative. She told them she was allergic, and she also tested positive for a latex allergy, and they STILL used a latex derivative glue on her wound. When I called and spoke to the nurse, as I have a minor medical background, she gave me a horrible attitude stating the dressing (tape covered in glue) covering the wound must come off ASAP, and to give her Benadryl. Keeping in mind the surgery was less than 48 hours ago. I repeated asked, are you sure I can take this off, as it looked like it was the only thing keeping it closed. She rudely told me she's having a reaction and it must come off, and they expected us to remove it. So I had to carefully soak my sister's neck and with tweezers try to remove these pieces of tape to not pull the wound apart, which took me almost 45 min to do. She started to get relief once the glue was off, and the tape, but she felt it was not healing properly so she tried to get a hold of the Surgeon's office the following business day. The nurse said she'd call her back, and she never did. The following day she called again, and again was told she would be called back within a couple hours. When a few hours went by, my sister called back and got the nurse which responded "Well you obviously want to come in since you've been calling every day", and at this point my sister no longer held anything in and knew that she was being discriminated against for going out at the hospital for a cigarette, and that is exactly what she told the nurse. The nurse responded with, yes it is in your chart your left the hospital for a cigarette, in which my sister responded, "if you read my whole chart you would see I later received Nicotine Patches, and also left with a prescription for the Patches as well". The nurses entire attitude changed, calling her "hunny" and trying to be overly nice and asked to get her in whenever she wanted. My sister said she would take her 1 follow-up appt. and wants to be done with this practice, and Dr. Weiss, and they obvious discriminate. In working in the medical field for over 10 years I have never heard of such a thing making remove Glue Sutures within 48 hours of surgery from an allergic reaction by theirself, and offering no sort of help at all, and giving attitude and pure discrimination. I wouldn't recommend this doctor to operate on someone's hamster!!!view
