    Tangoren, Dr. Ibrahim A.
Dr. Tangoren is absolutely wonderful and listens to you with undivided attention. I was having stress breakdowns right before my wedding and his recommendations nipped them in the butt without costing me an arm and a leg. He and his staff (especially Jill) have great bedside manner. Wait can be long at times but always worth it .

They were easy and pleasant to work with. It took about a month to get an appointment, but then everyone in the office was very friendly, even when my own doctor didn't send the referral like they were supposed to. I saw Theresa Setter, and she was great.

I have never seen Dr. Tangoren, so this review is for his practice overall. My appointments are always with one of the PA's in the office. The office has a very nice atmosphere and I've never met a staff member who wasn't friendly and courteous. I don't spend long in the waiting room - though I always make my appointments very early in the morning, having had very bad experiences with wait times for afternoon appointments at other dermatology offices, so I can't judge whether they are punctual in the afternoons as well. I received the majority of my acne treatment at an office in my hometown of Binghamton, NY. Since I moved to Syracuse and have been visiting Dr. Tangoren's practice, my appointments have simply been follow-ups to make sure everything is still on track with the topical creams I use to maintain the skin that Accutane gave me (gorgeous!). I do have a small complaint in that when I was first seen, I have been on .1% cream Tazorac, which was working perfectly well for me. I was not having any issues with my skin. The PA I saw (Dr. Brown - no longer with the practice) decided to bump me up to a .05% gel, which is actually a stronger concentration than the .1% cream due to its gel form. I wasn't experiencing any breakouts on the lower concentration that I had been using, so I'm not sure why he decided to put me on a higher concentration in the first place. Well, my skin didn't react well to the increase - it started to get very dried out. Since then it's been a struggle for my skin to tolerate even the lowest concentration of Tazorac (.05% cream).
Otherwise, I suppose I have no other complaints. They seem to be open to discussing alternate options if I want them. They always have a plethora of free samples to hand out. I haven't even had to fill a prescription for Tazorac in years because they gave me so many samples of it and you go through such a small amount each time you use it. Great! I also really like that they do a yearly body check for moles, regardless of who you are and what you are being seen for. Everyone is at risk for melonoma and everyone gets checked. This is an extremely smart policy, and I appreciate it because I tend to be too lazy to do regular checks on my own.

I appreciate him and I think he does a good job. He is very good at taking off moles and sewing you up. It is relativity painless. He mixes up a topical anesthetic and it is effective. I have been going to him for 15 years. He is the only dermatologist I have ever seen. I have recommended him.

    Tangoren, Dr. Ibrahim A.
My primary care doctor referred me to Dr. Tangoren for acute acne and it did take about three months to get a new patient appointment. After the original appointment it is very easy to make more appointments. I went to see Dr. Tangoren with tempered hopes because my last dermatologist of six years implied that there were no options left to help me. Dr. Tangoren assured me that though I had already gone through many treatments there were still plenty of things left for me to try. We discussed what he wanted me to try first and what side effects were possible and he even mentioned other treatment options to try after that if this one if it didn't work so I wouldn't lose hope if the first thing didn't work out. There is always a nurse or aide who sits in on the appointment and takes notes. At the end of the appointment this person gives you what ever prescriptions and samples you need and a printed out sheet of the instructions Dr. Tangoren gave you during the appointment. Finally, I can say that a year later my acne is all but gone thanks to Dr. Tangoren, proving my last dermatologist wrong! Also, after my success, my mother and sister have both started to see him and are both as happy with his results as I am! I highly recommend Dr. Tangoren to anyone with skin issues!

As in the past I found Dr. Tangoren extremely efficient and pleasant to deal with. He found and treated some pre-cancerous spots on my face again and biopsied a spot on my back. Appointments with Dr. Tangoren are always prompt and I was in and out in less than an hour.

He discovered my skin cancer and dealt with it right away. I go annually and he does a complete head to toe examination. He is always looking for early signs of skin cancer. He is very personable, professional, and thorough. He is very easy to talk to and will explain things. When you go, you have to wait beyond your appointment time. He is an excellent dermatologist and so many people come to see him because of his reputation. If somebody had skin cancer or thought they had skin cancer, I would recommend them to go to him. He can tell by looking at skin to see if there are other health problems. He is a strong believer in educating the patient so the patient can take control of their own health. When you go in to see him you are in there with him for awhile. He will sit and answer your questions. He enjoys patients who ask questions and want to take responsibility for their own health. It is a very good office but you usually don't get in until about 30 minutes past your appointment time. Since he has so many people that come to see him, you can't get an appointment for the next week. Normally you have to wait about a month after you want to get in.

They immediately knew the skin condition I was suffering from. They prescribed a treatment, however I had an adverse reaction. I called on the phone and they called me back the same day with a change in prescription. After waiting to get the initial appointment as a new patient, they get you in very quickly if you have an issue.

The most recent visit was typical. I spent five minutes or so in the waiting room before being taken to an examining room, where I waited... well, not sure; I read until the doctor arrived. I know to bring a book, and to keep my shirt on until the doctor comes in, because it's usually a long wait; half an hour or more sometimes. This is also why I schedule my appointments for first thing in the morning. The doctor came in, looked me over, said everything looked great, asked if I needed a refill on my prescription, and told me to come back in a year, and was out the door in maybe 3 minutes. I got dressed, made my appointment for next year, and went away. His manner is energetic and not particularly warm, and he certainly doesn't spend much time with each patient. But he does seem to be good at what he does. Only once has he found a mole he was concerned about and he removed it; that went quickly and without complications. Billing and appointments are handled well and I don't think I've ever had an appointment rescheduled by him.

On my first two annual visits I saw a PA and Dr. Tangoren. On the last few annual visits I've seen only the PA, which is fine. The PA is thorough and seems knowledgeable, and Dr. Tangoren is available for consultation if needed. They have found a few added precancerous lesions over the years which they have burned off with liquid nitrogen (not as bad as it sounds!). Overall they have been efficient and effective.
