Counseling & Mental Health reviews in Syracuse

    Michael Vertino MD
These reviews dont allow enough characters to describe my full experience today. Ill surmise by saying, if I could give a 0 in regards to how my husband and I were treated by Dr. Vertino at my neurology appointment today I would. He quickly made his judgement and either bulldozed and spoke over me, or simply ignored my questions even though I tried to be cooperative and see things from his standpoint as well as implement them into my care plan in hopes hed listen to my symptoms and feelings since Id respectfully listened to his thoughts. He even went so far as to mention my referring neurologist had barely been in practice for a year which certainly seemed to be an attempt to degrade and imply the diagnosis from my prior neurologist was inept. Ive never felt more dismissed, belittled, insulted, nor offended all at once. And to think, we had to wait 3 months to even get the referral appointment scheduled. Complete waste of time and a total insult to my existence as a human being.

    St Joseph's Hospital Health Center
After more than two hours, I asked how much longer it would be to see a doctor and was told "it's going to be a while". I mentioned how I had already been waiting more than two hours and was told "well, it's gonna be a few more hours". I couldn't believe it! I got there around midnight, and they were telling me I would have to wait until about 5:00 or 6:00 AM to see a doctor. | |I thought it was extremely inconsiderate to have people waiting that long and after wasting three (3) hours in the waiting room, I got up and left. | |Incredibly, a month later I got a bill for $256.00 SIMPLY FOR REGISTERING to see a doctor! I never saw a doctor, not even a nurse and still, they charged me $256.00  - ridiculous!

    Psychiatric Healthcare
This provider was late for appointments, cancelled appointments and was not very effective with therapy. Cost for a 1 hour session was $200.00 for 1 hour. Most physicans charge $100 and this provider is a Nurse Practioner.

    Scaturo, Janis l.
My daughter continues to see her, and we're delighted to have Janis as another support for our daughter. About a month ago, I contacted Janis to explain a challenging situation with my daughter and received outstanding--and free--counsel in the process. Janis has 38+ years experience as a CSW and is just so wise in a common-sense kind of way. An added benefit is that it's very easy to schedule with her, unlike the counselor for our other daughter. Sadly (and understandably) Janis won't work with siblings. It's too confusing to keep things straight with different family members. Highly, highly recommended!

    Psychological Healthcare
Denise is professional and helpful. I don't feel like we are a great fit and she does provide quality counseling on how to improve and grow.
The sessions are only 45 minutes and I wish they were a full hour.
The downtown Syracuse office is a bit run down and not particularly comfortable or relaxing. The music they play in the waiting room is often overly intense. I like classical but something but sedate would be nice.
I love that they can sent you txt messages to remind you of appointments.

    Nasri Ghaly MD
After five years and ten different psychiatrists/therapists. I was referred to Dr. Ghaly by a friend of mine in the medical field.
After two months under his care, I feel better than I ever have. At my first appointment, Dr. Ghaly spent two hours with me. TWO FREAKIN HOURS. He strives to be current with new diagnoses and therapies that others are too old-fashioned or lazy to be concerned with.
Sometimes I'm in the waiting room for five minutes, sometimes it's an hour - but who cares? Very small price to pay for what each patient of Dr. Ghaly's receives.

    Robert Todd MD
Although the procedure is somewhat unpleasant as it entails getting multiple injections of Botox in the neck, Dr. Todd's office is a good place to get them done if you need the procedure. I've only met Dr. Todd once and he was serious and honest, listening to all my concerns about getting the procedure done.He helped me weigh the positives and negatives.

Normally the injections are done by Kelly who works with him in his office. She is very matter of fact and interested in my condition at each appointment. The injections are done with the help of a computer that monitors the tenseness of the muscles being injected which is recommended before getting Botox injections of this type. I haven't experienced any ill effects from the procedure and it has helped my condition somewhat.
The office staff is very friendly and personable. The office itself is small, has limited hours and a wait longer then ten minutes has been unusual for me.

    St Joseph's Hospital Health Center
This is the first therapist I have gone to that I've had a truly good experience with. I have tried multiple (6 or 7) places in the past but was never satisfied with the treatment I received. I think my issue was too severe to be handled by just any general counseling office. St. Joseph's provides thorough, all-emcompassing treatment for mental health issues that are a bit more complicated than anxiety or depression. (Although I'm sure you can be treated here for either of those, too.) This is exactly what it claims to be - an outpatient mental health clinic. They provide attentive and thorough treatment that is only one step down from an intensive inpatient program. All of my mental health needs are fulfilled by this one location - I see a therapist (LCSW) every week, a psychiatrist once a month for medication management, as well as group therapy sessions each week as part of the treatment program for BPD. It's extremely convenient that this location is prepared to offer all of these services in one place. They regularly deal with BPD patients and are very well-versed on the most successful treatment plan. I can be confident that I'm receiving exactly the treatment that I need, from competent people, and am on the road to recovery. They aren't just treating the symptoms, as therapists in my past have tried to do, but are addressing the true cause - the underlying personality disorder. Also everyone in the office is very friendly, especially Suzanne - the receptionist on the Mezzanine level :) She is always cheerful and greets me by name.
