I arrived on time, and filled out the usual forms. There was only one other person in the waiting area.
Within about five minutes my X-Rays were complete and I returned to the room.
The Dr. entered, introduced himself as Dr. Katz, and asked what the problem was. I explained how my right knee had shooting pain walking down stairs after a day of skiing. He did some physical movement tests by holding my knee and moving my leg. He then said a shot of Cortisone should fix the pain. Gave me a shot in the right knee, handed me a tissue for the blood and gave me a band-aid to place over the needle mark. Said "that should work, but if you have trouble a couple of months from now come back and we can take a look." as he was walking out of the room and he was gone. I thought "man, that was quick; he must see this kind of thing all the time. I didn't get a chance to ask questions. I guess that fixes it."
On the way out I paid three co pays (Empire Blue Cross insurance) $20. for the Dr. visit, $20. for the X-Rays and $20. for the shot. At best, the $60. bought me some peace of mind that my knees are in good shape, but left me with some questions.
It was as if I got the bum's rush. It was the fastest Dr. appointment I've experienced. The Dr. was in and out so quickly I feel as if I did not have the time to ask what is causing the pain and so on. I know now I should have my questions written down. It just all seemed to happen so quickly.
I do not plan on returning. I will do my own research on the Internet and will bring a list of questions for all future Dr. visits. It seems like my experience was what I've been warned that Socialized Medicine would be like...
