Alto Contracting - Masonry & Paving
I called Alto Contracting in February 2019 to inquire about replacing our driveway, walkway, adding some additional parking space, widening the driveway, adding drainage and also adding a decorative Belgium brick border and apron. in the spring. Rick called me back very quickly and I walked through the project. He came by later that week and gave a competitive quote to perform all of the work as well as his professional recommendations along the way. He gave me a good time frame of when they could start and a few weeks later the project began with ripping up the old driveway, doing the walkway, drainage and Belgium brick work, and laying the gravel underway. This was in early March and he explained that the asphalt plants would open up in early April and we would be one of the first on his list. Rick followed back in early April as promised and our driveway was completed by April 16. It was a pleasure working with Rick and his team. They were very respectful of our property, cleaned up each day and Rick was very responsive to both my questions and my wife's. I work fairly long hours each day, and it was easy to speak with Rick over email as the project went along. Rick even accommodated our schedule and did the asphalt during a week we were out of town, which meant it could set without any cars needing to be parked on the road. The driveway came out beautiful and was exactly what we wanted. Rick sent me pictures when he finished (as we were out of town), which included a picture from above taken with a drone camera, which I thought was a nice added touch. I would recommend Alto in the future, and we plan to use them for the necessary sealing of the new driveway.

    Bayview Roofing NY
I bought a fixer upper a few months ago and dealt with a previous contractor who got everything done but wanted to charge me an arm and leg for a new roof i wanted. This is when i called bayview roofing and they managed to take measurements show me samples of materials and get me up to speed with what needs to be done step by step. What i loved the most about the was full transparency from the start. You would be very surprised how contractors can take full advantage of their clients just because they do not know any better. I recommended Bayview Roofing to everyone and if he works with others the way he did with me I am sure he will be the # 1 Top rated contractor for New York State!

It's delayed. It took a much longer time than agreed or I have expected. Very loose organizing. The people, you saw kind of different people. Many people are involved, but few people are doing the work.

Jim the owner came out and viewed the job and promptly issued a job quote via e-mail.  D-Fence's quote was very competitive relative to several additional estimates from other local fencing companies.  Job started and completed in agreed time frame.  Installers were professional, respectful and neat. I would highly recommend D-Fence and would use them again for any future fencing needs.  A+ quality job and materials.

    Tapia's Landscaping
We used Fredy and his workers several years ago for help with general landscaping needs that included taking down one very large tree and pruning several others, new shrub plantings, transplanting and a couple masonry projects. We were very happy with his pleasant nature and knowledge in all areas. His men did a  thorough job, cleaning up after themselves at every step. We had them cut, split and stack the considerable amount of wood that resulted; they were meticulous, even throwing the wood chips precisely where I asked.
On first inspection of our yard after this winter, we noted a moderate amount of landscaping work that needed attention. We did not hesitate to call Fredy again. He called back promptly and came by for his assessment and estimate a day later. This work involved taking down a damaged tree that lay very close to our neighbor's expensive fencing   Since he was coming out for that work,  my husband decided to have Fredy's crew give our lawn (approx 1 acre) some overdue TLC. The tree came down beautifully; I find it fascinating to watch the process. This time around we paid Fredy to haul the wood away, and his men left nary a twig on the driveway! We also contracted for the repair of a stone wall; that project was done on a different day by another crew.  Our property now looks very tidy, ready to come to life once the weather warms up.
In the near future we will have Fredy back to help with some new plantings to spruce up a couple more spots.  It is a pleasure to work with him because he has all the qualities you look for in a service provider - knowledge, sincerity, promptness, courtesy, along with very reasonable pricing - PLUS Fredy has good and respectful crew members on his team. We would not hesitate to recommend Tapi's Landscaping.

After spending 2 hours with Tony, I do have some follow up homework to do to in regards to other contractors working in conjunction (Tony would redo my walkway/ & landing while I get a carpenter to repair the entryway.  The plan is to change the pitch away from my house and insert drainage pathways and connect them to other drains.
Definitely in the planning stage, but will absolutely use Tony Femia when all of my ducks are in order.

White Oak Building & Design, Inc
Roddy was very responsive in helping me with a small project at my father's condominium. He corresponded clearly and promptly over e-mail and arrived to assess the project on time in person. Roddy clearly explained what he believed needed to be done regarding the project and the best way to proceed. The actual work went smoothly and was completed in a short amount of time. Both my father and I are very happy with the work and thank Roddy and his staff for a job well done. We won't hesitate to contact Roddy again for other work.

    George Apap Painting
We had scheduling issues along the way, where he would not have anyone scheduled to come and workers would just show up, or he would schedule work to be done and the workers would come on another day.

The original Bilco doors delivered to my house were also incorrect, and the correct doors were installed weeks later.

Furthermore, the brick stone floor under the pergola was splattered with white paint stains. On the back deck step, there is also a brown paint stain, and I was told by the mason that this cannot be fixed.

Their billing was also haywire. I tried several times speaking to the representatives from Apap, but I had to correct several billings along the way.

They put in a new window rather than repairing the old window. This work was incorrectly noted on the Capital Improvements form and has since never been corrected, which can cause issues for me down the road if I want to sell the house. According the Kate in the office, the extra money I paid in August, so everything that was stained or painted brown, was what I was to be charged in mid-August, leaving only the white paint parts left. The only thing that is really a Capital Improvement is the side deck as it was an entirely new portion of the deck. The painting and staining of the front porch and back deck should not have been included in the Capital Improvements form, and Kate said billing would remove it, but this has not been completed.

The carpenters blew out the circuits in my house when doing the deck work. Apap said I would have to pay to have an electrician to come out to fix the issue even though his workers were the ones who caused the issue. When the electrician came, after he checked everything out, he said Apap was paying for it. This is just another example of the miscommunication and unnecessary aggravation.

All areas that were to be painted white, including the deck railings surrounding the house, the fence around the generator and air conditioning unit, the arbors, and the trellis/pergola were not finished or were done poorly. Most of it was not done at all, it was just dirty and not-treated. The bottom part of the garage foundation is the only part that looks like it was done correctly. The white paint on all other parts were blobs of paint surrounded by dirt, mold, or not even touched. I will have exposed wood during this upcoming winter, and I will need have to have all of this work re-done in the spring of 2016.

Fundamentally, the problem is that nothing was cleaned before it was painted, or it wasn't painted at all, leaving exposed wood. We had previously discussed that I wanted the house to look clean and fresh, and after the painting was done poorly, George Apap advised that they don't clean as part of their normal prep.

In addition to the work being incomplete and poorly done, they are now saying I owe them $2600. Not only do I not owe Apap any money, but I believe they owe me money as the mistakes George Apap made first need to be corrected, and then re-done, next year.

Update 2/5/2016: Apap has since contacted me indicating that they "will write off the claimed balance if you remove all negative posts on social media (Angie's list etc) and agree not to make any further posts."  I wouldn't agree, and they are now following through with a subpoena to appear in court.

Peter 's service is excellent. He is very easy to discuss options with and manage all aspects of the job. His painters are great, the work is of the highest quality and they respect that they are working in your home. They are quiet and their clean up is great.

    Ron's Painting
Ron and his team were most reliable, produced excellent work and completed the job in the exact number of days which he had predicted.  In this work the highest quality paint and deck coating were used.  Moreover, he cleaned after his work each day, not leaving any materials, equipment or debris at anytime.  In addition, his price was most fair and reasonable and he did not increase it after realizing that additional paint was needed.
