Concrete Repair reviews in South Ozone Park

I'm incredibly disappointed in the quality of work. This is a company that advertises itself as specializing in historic home repairs, which is one of the reasons I chose them over another contractor. If this weren't Angie's List, I would swear the positive reviews here were scams. The scope of the job was to fill in cracks and repair damage to stucco, apply waterproofing and to repoint my front and back steps. It took about four weeks to complete. My brand new gutters and downspouts are now smeared with waterproofing - they did not remove the downspouts to fill in the cracks underneath before waterproofing and, on top of that, they slopped waterproofing around behind the downspout instead of putting a thin piece of cardboard between the gutter and the wall to protect the metal from paint. When I asked if they could remove the paint, the contractor shrugged and said it was only noticeable if you were looking for a problem and paint remover would only make it look worse. The repointing of the stairs is embarrassing. The mortar was slopped in and not pointed neatly. The contractor blamed it on bigger spaces between the brick than they were used to (my house was built pre-1940's). At my insistence, they tried to clean it up a bit, but I'm still very angry about the result. I would never hire this company again. If this type of work were not their specialty, I would have preferred they shared that upfront.

    LUIGI COTUMACCIO MASONRY CONTR
It went Excellent! Everything he said would happen did. We were a little set back because of rain, but he was ready. Once rain stopped he called and told me when he would arrive and when he would be done. I have the best concrete driveway on the block! everyone came to see. We love his honesty and punctuality so much, we tipped a $100.00. (WE HAVE NEVER DONE ANYTHING LIKE THAT BEFORE). We never tipped on our previous construction projects. He was well worth it! God Speed! And Thank you Mr. Luigi!! ps. His workers are respectful and polished and uniformed. (these are not day laborers). They are professionals! Thanks to them too.!!

    Imperial Contracting of NYC Corp
It was okay. However, I still have not received receipts for the materials used. I looked at a receipt briefly and he wanted it back for his records. I asked him about a charge for a trowel (they are reusable) and he said that there was some sort of misunderstanding on that. I let it go until I got an email with the receipt in it. So far, nothing after repeated requests. I am not sure what the issue is there. Second point, he did not provide a long ladder that could reach the roof so that the minor leak could be taken care of expeditiously. We had to wait approximately 1 1/2 hours for it to arrive. If Imperial Contracting got their money up front (for the whole job) and their ladder is on another project, then it's time to rent a ladder from Home Depot for a couple of hours and bring it back when the job is done. On the other hand, the worker that was assigned was knowledgeable and ready to work. He was quick in completing what needed to be done. The person who was the supervisor was friendly and attentive. The question is the resources available. In conclusion, when there is a business deal then both parties are in each other's orbit for that period of time. It's good that you have technical skills to get the job done, but paperwork flows from everything. There is a reason paperwork is there and is being requested.

The work was fine but their responsiveness to phone calls and questions was slow, sketchy. The work quality was ok. In terms of the question "would I hire again", rather than simply yes or no, I think my best answer would be maybe because the price quote was good.

It went absolutely great! He gave me a wonderful price and completed it in a timely manner. He used 4000 psi concrete and also put metal wire mesh for the concrete to be stronger and also put expansion joints where needed.

It went very well. Contract was emailed outlining project and cost with start date and estimate of time it should take. Crew showed up right on time both days and were very courteous. I was very impressed by the skill of their cementing, particularly with the care they took to cornering and laying lines straight and sanding it down to a smooth finish. They were also very neat, cleaning up after themselves and left the area spotless.

    City Suburb, Inc.
The contractor said this work could be done in two days. I was amazed at the speed in which the steps were demolished in one day. Not only that, but new steps were already being laid the same day.
The contractor and his crew did a thorough job and cleanup was extremely precise and the work was finished in record time.
I will be calling City Suburb, Inc. again for additional work.
    Thanks guys!!

I called J B General Contractors on June 17th asking if someone could give me an estimate on cement work at my house.  Joe B showed up at the house within 2 hours of my call.  He gave me a verbal estimate on the work.  I decided on Sunday, July 6th to have the work done.  I left Joe B a message and he phoned back first thing Monday morning, July 7th.  I received an email from him with a full contract followed-up with a phone call.  I dropped my deposit off at the office on Friday, July 11th.  First thing Monday morning, July 14th, I received a call from him stating that the cement work would be done on Tuesday, July 15th.  His crew showed up at my house shortly after 7 am on Tuesday morning.   Joe showed up about 10 minutes later and the work began.  His foreman, Tony, was left in charge along with a group of workers that were absolutely great.  I was a little nervous when it first began but within less than an hour, I was convinced I had chosen the right company.  All of them were very professional and worked together to complete the job.  It went like clockwork.  By 2:30, the new cement was down and the finishing touches were being done.  The driveway was the last bit to be complete.  By that time, the weather was no longer cooperating.  The sky opened up and it started pouring.  Tony and team hustled and covered the driveway with plastic and put up caution tape on both sides of the work so no one would walk on it.  Joe had called a couple of times over the day to update me on the progress.  Once Tony had finished everything, they left reassuring me that the rain wouldn't hurt anything.  This was followed-up again with a phone call from Joe telling me that he would personally be at my house on Wednesday morning to pick up the plastic from the driveway along with a few boards that were left on Tuesday.  Sure enough, Wednesday morning at 7:15, Joe was there.  I told him how happy I was with the job and that his staff was excellent.  There were two places that needed to be touched up and he said he would be back later in the day to take care of them.  By the afternoon, everything was complete.  My property was left spotless.  I am so happy with the work that was done and the manner in which it was done.  I would highly recommend this company.

Contacted Ekram to receive a quote on some re-pointing & concrete work along with repairing my chimney. Although there bid was not one of the lowest, I decided to move forward as I was impressed by the thoroughness and feedback on the scope of work that would be performed.  Ekram and I went back and forth with many e-mails and his responsiveness was well thought.  The job did get to a late start as I had to go out of town and Ekram had multiple projects going on but I appreciated his responsiveness to initiating the project as soon as he could do so. Each work day went well, my pet-peeve was tidiness which I exemplified to Ekram and I appreciated him holding up his end of the promise. I would un-doubtfully contact them in the near future.

I hired this contractor because of the positive reviews on Angies List and because he is local.    At first I felt the estimate was way over what I expected to spend.  However, after conferring with my husband who believes in quality work, we decided to hire them. We did not make a mistake.  The crew started working the very next week, removing the very thick existing concrete, rapidly filling two giant dumpsters in about two days.  They also proceeded to remove a 10 x 22 ft area of grass in the back to create a lovely patio just outside my kitchen. They created a 10 x 13 ft platform on which a storage shed was to be built.  They provided the beautiful pavers which I myself chose from their catalog, as well as cobblestones to line the edges.  They provided good water drainage by digging and installing a 4 inch pipe towards the street. Because it took longer than anticipated to complete the job due to bad weather, Joe B. did not charge me for installing a concrete platform for my central air condenser and one split unit. I thought that was very fair and kind of him.
One very special observation I made was the skill of his crew and the joy they showed despite the difficult job and warm or very cold conditions.  You could hear them laughing and telling stories to each other while they continued to work.  They showed how much they enjoyed their work and never showed a frowning face, even when they were covered with dust!
I also observed that this company owned everything they used, from dumpsters to large and heavy equipment.  This is truly their specialty and I am very grateful to Angies List for allowing us to make wise decisions when we hire contractors.
