Excellent Exterior and Deck Company, Inc.
The experience and product were excellent.  Joe's bid came in more than $10,000 less than others, and he promised to complete the work in a much shorter time span.  Joe delivered in every way.  He was professional, responsive, and intent on delivering exactly what we wanted.    The deck is beautiful.  We are thrilled.
The service was tremendous.  Joe was prompt, met or exceeded all deadlines, and delivered more that we expected.  At the very end of the project, we had a bit of an issue with his crew leaving some debris.  Not a huge deal, but enough to call Joe because it was so out of character. The problem was solved immediately, and Joe returned the following week to make sure all was well.
This was by far our best experience with a local contractor.  We recommend Excellent Exteriors unequivocally.

    Pride Painting
Finding Pride Painting was worth many years of Angie's List subscriptions. Al Lenzi and his crew communicated with me consistently, did absolutely great work, priced very fairly, were punctual and professional, and delivered in every way that could be reasonably expected.  For example, I saw the extensive amount of effort and care they took in preparing the surfaces for painting. Or, when I saw the woodworking repairs that they did on a shed the first of two full days (plus a morning of power-washing) they were here, I asked if they could do additional work on the shed, and they adjusted to do the work on the second day in a timely, fairly-priced, and excellent way. I could not have been more pleased with the contract from initial contact through the completion of the work. Having had not-so-good experience with another firm in the course of getting a house ready for sale, I really appreciate the value of finding a contractor who is this professional and effective. I would recommend Pride Painting to anyone very enthusiastically.

Brian is great to deal with. Had given us the lowest price, and did a wonderful job. He is very meticulous, easy to communicate with, put up politely with any of my changes. Arrived every morning promptly at 7:30. Did all his sawing outdoors, and in the coldest of winters might add). Completed the whole job timely. We would certainly hire him again.

Kitchen cabinet ex were a nightmare.20(twenty) doors were wrong and needed to be replaced. The cabinet boxes arrived in three different styles. Sixteen of thirty boxes of flooring were defective . I Had to repackage and ship back myself - twice! I relict fostered for the third shipment as I was very close to loosing my contractor and had to move in. So many cabinets were sized wrong you would think they didn't own a tape measure. I paid Bout $3,500 for a Three year membership - the smallest they would sell me. I received no satisfaction from them. I wrote a detailed account to NYS Attorney General and the best they could do was get me an offer for a free six months of additional membership which I declined. I complained about bad service and bad merchandise - why would I want six more months of that? Avoid this "business"!!!

    Forster Construction
The Forster Construction contractor was excellent. He was prompt, very reasonably priced, dependable. His people were here and he was here on the day and time he said he would be here. He re-arranged his schedule to accommodate us. He built a great deck. It was all good.

    Bennett Contracting Inc
We're fairly happy with work, and will likely use Bennett again, but the results weren't as perfect as we would expect given the premium price we paid.  I've learned to be incredibly specific when describing work to be done in order to avoid discrepancies in the details of the job.
The job started much later than originally estimated (supposedly some delay was due to permit paperwork snafu which we discovered when checking up on the progress of the building permit Bennett applied for), and it took longer than estimated.  Job site was clean each day, and workers were punctual most of the time.  The guys who showed up to do the work each day were friendly and willing to talk with my wife and me.  We found early on that there was uncertainty about what exactly was to be done when there were some options, so my wife made it a habit to speak with whoever was on site each day to review the work that was to be done and to ask questions about specifics.  This worked well as it revealed several questions and issues that would crop up when we weren't there, and allowed us to give input as to what we wanted and head off several surprises.
Deck - they took down an existing wood deck that was beginning to deteriorate, and replaced it with Trex decking and vinyl railing.  We had chosen to have optional lighting installed, but the light kit was not what we expected (clamshell off rail posts, shining down).  Instead, the lights were small LED cylinders that were countersunk into the decking around the railing line.  There were only 10 lights to the kit, and when my wife and I laid out votive candles to imagine how the 10 lights would be spaced, it was apparent that 10 lights were too few for the size of the deck (15'x14').  We pointed out the issue and an additional light kit was ordered (additional expense over original estimate).  The end result looks good, but isn't nearly as functional as what we originally had envisioned with rail-mounted lights.  Area around original stairs was reused for new stairs, but patio block that was pulled up was not replaced, and new stairs just empty into bare dirt.  I was surprised that I was expected to finish the project.
Siding - this was a very simple job, and it was done for the cost of materials.  It looks good and resolved the issues it was meant to address.
Porch overhang & entry door - entry door was installed without much issue, but we did notice the striker plates (there are 3) each had the finish gouged on each one of them, likely happened when the door was mounted in the frame.  There were drill holes mistakenly made in the concrete porch pad when the columns that hold up the porch roof were installed.  The holes were patched, but they are still visible.  The fiberglass trim that surrounded the original entry door was reused, but was not cleaned up or repainted, so now it really looks in need compared to the new door.  The piece that originally had the door bell mounted in it and a hole to accommodate it was now mounted on the opposite side, with the hole filled - unfortunately it's still noticeable.  The piece without a hole is now over on the doorbell side, and has a doorbell mounted to it.  It wasn't explained to us why the switch was made.  The columns, made of a man-made material, were left unfinished and unpainted.  This was absolutely puzzling, and when questioned about why they hadn't been painted, we were originally told that was because it hadn't been specified, but when I pushed the point that it was reasonable to assume they would have been finished as part of the project, Bennett agreed that since it wasn't clear in the contract they would paint it for free.  As far as we were concerned, it was simply what we should have received.
We had an electrical issue a few months after the job was completed, and it impacted our deck lighting, leaving the electrical work from this job as a potential suspect.  Bennett has been responsive in coming over to review the issue, made a diagnosis (cause is unrelated to their work), and have been very helpful in ordering replacement parts for the affected portions of the deck lighting, as well as temporarily addressing the electrical issue (a shorted out front lamp post) until it can be tackled properly in the spring.

George came and priced the job. Just before the job began, he brought the head carpenter to discuss the job. Just before job began, assistant came & moved stones. Then  work began and in 1 week was done!

This job was completed in 4 days as promised.  The work began before around 7:30 each day and the workers were done by 3:30.  We were very pleased with the work done.  The area was left cleaned up and the deck and retaining wall look great.   My only complaint would be that I signed a contract the end of April and sent a deposit of $1500, the job wasn't begun until the last week of August.  They originally called me in June to say they were tied up and I indicated sometime in mid-July would work.  That didn't happen.  I did call in August and the job was scheduled and completed.  I have had Bennett do other repairs and upgrades and have always been satisfied with their work.

They are really good, and their prices are reasonable. They cleaned up after themselves. They were working on my front porch and could have done ruins to the shrubbery, but they did not. They were really good. I can’t say anything bad about them. The workmanship was good. I know it was a messy job and they did a really good job. They were here when they said they did be here. One day they were late and they called to inform me about it.

We hired Brian to tear out our old, rotting rear deck and replace it with new lumber and Trex railings. First off, he was punctual for his estimate appointment. Second, while not the cheapest bid we received from the contractors we spoke to, his was significantly less than the highest. Third, he actually began the work a few days ahead of the scheduled start-date, due to his calendar having a sudden opening. Brian did the work himself (with one assistant); arrived promptly in the morning and stayed throughout each of the two days the work required. Most important, he did a stellar job: The deck is beautiful and solid as a rock. One last thing: We called him a couple of times since with questions about care and maintenance, and he returned both calls quickly and was eminently nice about it. We would use Brian again for anything involving quality carpentry and would recommend him very, very highly to anyone needing the same.
