    Above & Beyond Carpentry Inc.
I cannot recommend Above & Beyond Carpenter and Mark Wirth highly enough. He has exceeded all our expectations and proven himself an expert carpenter and craftsman with high standards of quality, professionalism, honesty and customer service. In fact, I consider Mark to be a member of our family. It is very rare to find a contractor or any professional of his caliber.

Dan and All of his guys were great! From start to finish - Dan walked us through the process, explained every detail, and presented us with very reasonable prices. During the whole job - Dan was always available to answer any question or concern that we had, and he always made sure that we were comfortable and happy throughout the job - even when some unexpected issues came up with the extra pipes in our ceiling. He is very trustworthy, knowledgeable, and transparent - which made the process of not having our kitchen available that much easier to deal with. Even with some of the unexpected issues that came up - Dan managed to keep the job within the time limit that he promised us. I would definitely hire Dan again in a heart beat!

The owner was nice and responsive at first. He took measurements and we discussed basic ideas. Even the designer was fine when it came to discussing the ideas, however when it came to presenting us the designs - the whole atmosphere changed where it was now very secretive. We could not look or take the estimate or designs, and the price - which was extremely high considering it did not appear to include everything we discussed (although I can't say for sure, because we were never allowed to look over what it did include - we were just presented with a bottom line figure). We asked if we could have a copy of the estimate and we were told we couldn't. We didn't even mention that we thought the price was too high, and we told the designer that we would look into some other things and she told us she would get back in touch with us. As we felt that there was no way for us to even understand what we were verbally told, and not shown - we decided to not pursue this avenue anymore. We were very surprised that the owner or designer never attempted to even see what we thought of the numbers or designs and if we had any interest in moving forward. It was almost as if they had decided for whatever reason that they didn't want or need our business, which is very strange considering we never at anytime discussed what prices we had in mind for a renovation.

This is the second time I have hired John. He is a great carpenter who cares about the quality of his work. He made several trips out to my home and even came to speak to the town inspector during their inspection.

    Yes ma'am decorative contracting
Since moving into our home, we've hired a few contractors from Angie's List. Chris was one of the best contractors we've ever worked with and we would not hesitate to hire him again and recommend him to our friends. He provided us with a very detailed estimate before the job. We asked him to fix 14 rotting window trims and pediments, install a new colonial window casing for a bedroom, install a chair rail for our half bath, and repair and repaint our rotting wood decking boards. Throughout the entire process, he was stellar at communicating when he would be here and when he would aim to get the project done. We couldn't be happier with the quality of his work.

    Arthur DeRosa South Huntington Building+Remodeling
Mr. DeRosa and his assistant did a wonderful job. His suggestions were great and so was his workmanship, and the cost was reasonable. The tile work (walls and floor) is especially wonderful. I don't think that it gets any better than this. My master bathroom is beautiful.

    Tom Jannace Roofing Inc
Following storm damage (a tree fell on the house), I contacted 8 roofing contractors for estimates, including Tom Jannace Roofing. After rejecting evident rogue/expensive/unsatisfactory offers, I ended up with three, all of which I felt were reasonable. Tom's was in fact both the cheapest, and the most comprehensive in terms of included detailed items. I decided to select Tom's offer, not only because of the price, but also, equally importantly, because of the quality and extent of the personal contact & interaction I had with Tom during the course of making the contractor selection. I met with him many times, one time even at his home over beer, in order to understand, refine and tailor the estimate to my needs, and also to prepare the documentation required my my insurance company. This time was absolutely invaluable for me in helping me to move from a total novice in this area, to feeling comfortable with the details of the work proposed, the materials to be used and the price offered. Once the contract was signed, the work was initiated within a week. There was a large team who came to do the job and Tom was present much of the time to supervise and control the work together with his foreman. The work was interrupted for a week because of the weather, but in total, the entire roof job took 3-4 working days. I was extremely impressed with the quality of the workmanship of Tom's team, the coordination of the work, and the number of people assigned to the job. The post-job clean-up was also exceedingly well done - it was almost as if they had never been there! Walking around the house, I found no more than 4-5 stray nails - excellent especially given the amount of rubbish that was taken off the roof (2-3 layrs of old shingles & many hundreds of nails!!).
I therefore have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending Tom Jannace Roofing in the strongest possible terms. The quality of service, the personal interaction, the quality of the materials used and the follow-up of the work during the job were all really first rate. I am extremely happy with the result of the job and I have now a great roof on the house. Thanks Tom!!!

    Distinctive Decks
I can't say enough good things about John and his company Distinctive Decks.
Everyone we got estimates from tried to convince us to do wood instead of composite. We knew we wanted composite and John is well versed in this material unlike others we interviewed.  His price is fair and his cost of materials was lower than other estimates.  He knows where to go for the good prices and is not a guy who will rip you off.
He came prepared to our initial estimate meeting with samples of the composite so we could better visualize what we wanted.
The main reason we hired him is because wherever there was problem, John had a very creative well-designed solution. I didn't get that sense from other bidding contractors instead it seemed they already knew what they wanted to do, but John worked with our ideas and helped us improve on them.
As a result we have a beautifully, well-crafted composite deck that you can tell was made with great attention to detail complete with a granite countertop island.  We are thrilled with the result.  We also had John build us a pergola for our pool area - very creatively done and simple garden box as well which he also put more than the average effort so it had a nice clean look.
It was a pleasure to have him at the house for the few days that he was there as he was very polite and friendly. He left the job site at the end of the day in nice clean condition and he was there to supervise and work every single day. Even after the job was done he came back a couple times to troubleshoot some small items that came up free of charge.
Over the winter months, I plan to have him come back to work on another project inside our home as well.
$24400 trex composite 800 sqft deck
    $2800 trex bench 56ft
$3740 trex cap and riser lighting & dusk sensor
    Pergola $4800 dimensions 12'x24'
    Garden box $550 dimensions 8'x16'
(On a side note, one day when John was finished working a pipe burst over our den and flooded the entire room as if a torrential rain storm came through our house. John jumped right in and helped us control the water, dry out the floors and put our furniture up on blocks simply because he was that type of nice guy.)

This project was started over 2 years ago in 2012. Although the basic design that we selected was developed by Home Depot, we contracted with Setauket Kitchen and Bath because of their alleged excellent local reputation. We did not prefer the SKB design although their designer did tweak the H/D plan.

The SKB designer was very helpful in helping us choose tile but mislead us as to granite choices. We wound up having to  pay extra for our granite selection. I also asked her twice to order me an extra cabinet touch up pen...she never did.

The crew chief and assistant showed up to the job on time consistently. The chief's attitude could use improvement.

When installing coat hook racks on the walls they were glued and nailed to the walls rather than screwed to the studs. When I questioned that decision, I asked the chief, "What if I ever want to take them down? "Not my problem!" was the reply.

I purchased an expensive grout additive called "Boost." The assistant said that they generally did not use the recommended amount because application was harder. After prepping the grout, I noticed that only about 1 ounce (far too little) of Boost was mixed in. Later that day, half the bottle was gone, probably poured on the ground. I believe that that practice was unprofessional and deceptive.

Without asking, chief drilled a hole in the new casing for an abandoned alarm wire. When I complained, chief said "Too bad!"

During construction, a lot of basement items were moved, covered with dust and not replaced or cleaned.

During construction, my old refrigerator was moved to my dining room for use. After completion, the chief wanted to adopt my fridge for his garage. I said, fine. Upon his removal of my refrigerator he did not put a cart or rags under the unit. this caused permanent scratches on my D/R hardwood floors as well as my brand new floor tile and oak saddle. THESE PROBLEMS STILL EXIST EVEN OVER TWO YEARS LATER! I have called the owner many times over the past two years concerning these unresolved problems. His response has been consistently unsatisfactory.

BOTTOM LINE: The kitchen is done and looks okay. The floor problems still are there and I am not sure if they will ever be resolved. I believe that many of the problems were caused by "not respecting the job."

On 7/15/14 I returned a call Dennis Lynch because I'm sure that he wanted to speak to me. He called me back to complain about this review. He was livid! He asked me if I was trying to put him out of business? I replied that I was only trying get some service, after 2.5 years. He then said "get someone else to clean your floors" , and then hung up on me! I've never been hung up on before. I will not call him back.
