    R. Anthony Vincente Home Improvement
EXCELLENT! OUTSTANDING! My husband and I don't often agree (even after 21 years) but as soon as we met Tony we knew he was the right contractor. He is very calm, confident and professional. About 3 days into the job we were having twenty 5th graders over for a pool party. I didn't want to change their plan but when we asked Tony to re-work the schedule for that day he said "I work for you ... whatever you want" RAV home improvements did a complete siding job on our colonial style home, replaced the front door with 2 side lights, 2 screen doors, 2 garage windows, 2 bathroom windows and a bedroom door that was broken. When you work with Tony and his crew everyday you hear "NO PROBLEM." The entire crew was very responsible as we left our key at the house and they arrived every morning around 9 am and worked straight through until the end of the day. They cleaned up every night. From our first appointment to our last punch list day the RAV home improvements company was always, on-time, very knowledgeable and extremely accommodating. Highly recommend Tony and RAV!

    Econo-Therm Insulation Co
It was pretty quick to set up and get our energy audit (which was informative in and of itself) and get a quote on the work. The price we paid included a significant rebate from LIPA/NYSERDA. There was a delay at this point (a few months) because we were using the NYSERDA On-Bill Recovery Financing loan which has a lengthy approval process, but as soon as everything was approved they scheduled the work. They said it would take two days, and they were done by around lunchtime on the second day. They took pictures of all of the knee wall and attic work so that I could see it for myself before anything was sealed off. The crew was friendly and clean.
The temperature in the house is a lot more consistent now. The upstairs in our cape would always be so much colder than the downstairs whenever it was cold out, but in the last few cold days the temperature upstairs has been within 1 degree of the downstairs. Everything is a lot less drafty and the exterior walls are not so cold to the touch. In theory our overall heating bill should be lower as well.
A few days after the work was complete, we noticed that there was a hole in our living room wall (about the size of a half-dollar) where the drill for the dense pack insulation went through. I emailed Econo-Therm and they scheduled someone to come within a few days. Not only did he fix the hole, but he also repainted it and even touched up a couple of spots on the wall nearby where there was some paint missing that had nothing to do with their work. We provided the matching paint but they offered to color match it and get it themselves. When you get work done on your house, little things like this hole are bound to happen. What you hope is that the company takes care of it without a hassle. These guys definitely did that.
We had a very positive experience with these guys and would recommend them to anyone interested in this type of work.

Overall it was successful.   We have a very insulated home.  There was a lot to do.  Sealing up the attic, basement, garage, etc.
Jay's crew were very good, very respectful guys.  They were all over the house in all the corners sealing it up tight.
Blowing the insulation in was messier than I thought it was going to be.   It is a couple of months later and all is back to normal.
But now that it is all done, we have not raised our heat over 68 all winter.  We lost heat a few times with an issue we have with our heating system.  The temp never got below 64 and it was VERY cold outside.

    So the job is effective.

START TO FINISH CONSTRUCTION/BD GENERAL CONT INC
This was a really big, long job and so it was very important to the quality of our lives that the people in our house were nice to be around. Fortunately for us, Bruce only hires the best so it wasn't a problem. Our home was a pleasant place to be even at the height of the remodeling and our cats grew very fond of the workmen. (When they weren't installing the air-conditioning ducts that is - that was noisy & the cats hated it! Fortunately it only took a few days). Our house dates from just before central air became a fixture in American life and it was something we had always wanted but we thought it would be too disruptive to install. Bruce looked over our house & figured out how it could be done with minimal disruption, with two separate systems, one for the second floor and the other for the first floor and basement. It's made an enormous difference to our lives and we are having a wonderful time this summer what with having had AC installed last summer ( owing to me being a bit behind in writing reviews, I'm writing this review in summer of 2012 about work carried out in summer of 2011 - I suppose the upside is that at least the reader can be assured that all the work has stood up to a year of use with no issues!).  In addition we had a new boiler installed, our old one was a cast iron and would have continued to work for the next several hundred years without issue, but it was very wasteful with fuel and our new boiler has saved us a lot in heating oil. We also got a new larger hot water tank and a new electrical panel, our old electrical panel was a bit eccentric and eccentricity is not what one looks for in an electric system. Our new one is safe and fully capable of dealing with our electrical loads.
The basement remodel was very thorough, from the stairs to the length of the hall, the only room we didn't redo was the bathroom, which had been remodeled fairly recently. Everything else was made new. The stairs needed new carpet and a bit of fresh sheetrock on the walls and then the stair walls were lined with cork tiles to make a huge pinboard. The bannister was also tightened up. As I mentioned above, one element that Bruce added to our plan was a window in the den/guest room, so that we would be fully compliant with the local laws. To install the window a large pit was dug in the garden (without disrupting our plants) to sink a window well, which has a built in escape ladder for emergencies. And the added natural light makes the den a much nicer place to be. A glass door system was also installed into the den fireplace that is so nice we are considering getting one for the living room as well.  A part of the den was nipped out and turned into a large walk in craft cupboard lined with wire shelving. We love it, and well we should- Bruce designed it to meet our needs exactly. Another room was turned into a library, with built in shelves lining all the walls, and free-standing shelves in the middle of the floor (we have thousands and thousands of books), this worked out really well, the wooden shelves are very attractive (and Bruce built them to match the floor-to-ceiling shelves in one of the upstairs studies) and having a library makes a lot of sense for our house. We still have a lot of bookcases scattered throughout the house, but having the bulk of our collection in one place eases the pressure on the rest of the rooms. The workmen were very good about moving and storing our books while the work was being carried out, and they are all in good condition. The laundry room needed the most work of all, it was left unfinished and before Bruce came it didn't even have walls or a ceiling. Now it has walls, ceiling, flooring, extensive shelving and two large closets. It also has a workbench and Bruce figured out a way to fix permanent laundry lines for us, because sometimes we like to air-dry our laundry.  Bruce also sorted out a utility closet off the hallway, in its original state it gave him the willies (something about loose and exposed electrical wiring, he seemed amazed that our house hadn't burned down decades ago) and he not only made it safe he made it nicer and more useful as well with new flooring and shelving and a new door.
As you can probably tell, we don't know a lot about houses, or construction, and the great thing about hiring Bruce is that we don't have to. He is a very honest, hardworking, caring man and he takes care of everything. He organized the whole job, chose great contractors, supervised them perfectly, was right there every time we needed him, and we felt very secure and safe with the job in his hands. We knew everything would be done right, and would be done on time and for a fair price and during the whole long job we never had to stress about it or worry about anything, we could just get on with our lives and our own work, know that the house was in Bruce's capable hands. I totally recommend him to anyone looking for a hassle-free, drama-free contractor. He's awesome!

    PCI Services Inc
They are completely professional. The estimates are detailed down to the linear foot of what they are using, so you know exactly how much it's costing. All the workman were completely professional and were aware of any disruption caused to me and my family. They were extremely courteous and arrived on time and were efficient every day. A few months after the fact, there was an issue with a repair they did and they were back out the next morning to take care of it. They always made sure to call if they were running more than 10 minutes late and were also conscientious of the fact that I have a 4 year old daughter and they made sure to clean up every day so she would not be exposed to nails, exposed wood or anything of that nature. The did a great job making a very difficult situation less difficult.

The crew arrived exactly on time. They were very courteous and professional. All special details (like those mentioned above) were attended to. It was snowing but the work went on. We had been told it would take until approximately 2:30 and we were done at 2:45. I had awakened with the flu and had not moved things off the shelves in the attached garage; the kind and understanding crew told me to go sit down and they would take care of it. The men used tarps where necessary and when they left, the house was pretty much back in order. They will be back when it is warm enough to touch up any marks on the shingles but the house looks great and began to feel much cozier that evening. My husband and I agreed that this could not have been an easier or more pleasant experience for a major home improvement project.

I am very pleased with the result. The air leakage in the house went down by 2 times. The humidity problems in my basement have disappeared.
