Heating Oil Company reviews in Setauket

    Freedom Burner Service Inc
Great always more than helpful and the knowledge they have and share is beyond any other service company I have hired in the past. Since I First hired Freedom Oil I have joined their service plan and will only use them for my boiler and burner. Great family business and excellent customer service. One of the few that no matter who you get they all go above and beyond each and every time.

    DART FUEL OIL INC
I've used this company for many years without problems. Their oil prices are competitive while their service related prices are a bit high but I've generally been satisfied with them until this fall. Their technician came in mid October for the regular burner tuneup. He seemed to be a competent individual. During the process he indicated after probing by hand that the flame retention ring on the end of the burner needed replacement. He indicated the cost and quot;to replaceand quot; it was $53. Of course, it turns out that was the cost of the part which did not include the extra half hour of labor @$129 an hour. When he extracted the part so I could see what it was, gave it to me and then showed me the new part, I could see right away this part was still functional and not at risk of imminent failure. However, I let it all slide since I'm generally in favor of replacing stuff proactively rather than waiting to replace it in an emergency. Three weeks later I woke up one morning to a cold house due to an inoperable burner. I pushed the reset button and the burner fired immediately, ran for about two minutes and shut down again. DART sent out a technician. Within thirty seconds he had the system running and said he could see right away the mixture was lean. He checked a couple of other things and waited a little while to make sure everything was OK and left after charging me for an hour's labor. I immediately wrote a letter to the service manager pointing out that the tuneup had just been done so if the mixture was set lean, it was DART Fuel that set it that way in the tuneup. This rekindled thoughts about the suspicious part replacement so I also mentioned that in the letter as ancillary information. I subsequently received a call from an office manager named Barbara who stated they would refund the amount paid for the call back but that the part replacement was valid - evidently having concluded that without much of an investigation. I indicated I would accept that since I had authorized the change but that I would be less trusting and question their technicians more closely in the future when they recommended parts replacements. At that point Barbara said she wold no longer send technicians to service my system as they were all completely 100% honest - again apparently not caring much to do any investigation before drawing a conclusion. Since that was pretty terminal, I told her to just keep all the money they had taken from me and hung up. I then sent a letter to the owner of DART Fuel relating the sequence of events. A few days later he left a voicemail on my home phone asking me to call to discuss the problem. I tried calling him back twice - he was not available. The second time Barbara got on the line and asked me for a call back number which I provided. He never returned my call. Was he not given the message or did he decide not to return the call? I will never know.

So, it seems if one is willing to let the company just do what they want and replace what they want and then get paid premium prices whether the work was needed or not, they are a great company. Just don't ever challenge them by asking for justification for something they did or they'll just cut you off and refuse to talk to you.
