I love him. He is just a very warm and caring person. He is more than a doctor. It's like visiting a friend. The treatments have been fine. The facility is beautiful. It's a nice office. They're clean and up to date. You can see him within 20 minutes. The staff are very friendly.

He treats me holistically and he treats the whole person. He is a little bit more knowledgeable about nutrition and herbal products. He doesn't prescribe them but he is more knowledgeable about how they affect me. I would definitely continue to see him.

My family and I have been patients of Dr. Donna Meltzer for nearly 10 years. We like her because she takes the time to talk to us and doesn't rush through the examination. She has a limited schedule for seeing patients so getting an appointment to see her can be difficult. Stony Brook is a teaching hospital so you may also be seen by a doctor-in-training followed by an attending physician. It's not a bad experience but some people may be turned off by this. There is often a long wait in the office before being seen for your appointment. The office has an "institutional" feeling. The waiting room has chairs, a television and a small play area for children. The entire office is fairly generic in decoration but it is clean and well-maintained. The clinical staff of the office is professional, friendly, and helpful. My family and I have gotten to know many of the clerical staff and covering doctors. A majority of them are warm and caring. They smile and make an effort to make you feel comfortable. Dr. Meltzer and the other physicians have been thorough in their care. Dr. Meltzer helped me through a particularly confounding illness several years ago. She had no reservations in referring me to outside doctors and coordinating an effort that ultimately resulted in the successful resolution of the problem. The clerical staff, however, can often be cold and uncaring. I have frequently been asked to wait for a long time to make an appointment or check-out while the worker does something else. The office closes for an hour at lunch so if you want to make an appointment you have to do it on their schedule. I can't remember the last time a clerical staff member has shown any warmth or personal regard for me; not even to say "Have a Nice Day". I also resent having to provide my insurance information every time I make an appointment despite being a long-time patient of the practice. The clerical staff gets the job done but don't expect them to act like they like it. The billing staff has been slightly more friendly than the clerical staff. There is usually little to no wait for this service. The best part of this practice is the doctors, nurses, and other clinical staff. If they weren't so good I probably would have stopped coming here years ago. My overall score is based on my experience with and confidence in the doctors, nurses, and clinical staff of Stony Brook Family Medicine.

    Adams, Dr. Tanya R
As always, the wait was very long, both in the waiting room and in the examining room. Although Dr. Adams and her staff are friendly, we were not happy with the long wait times, and with the financial aspects. To have to pay before seeing the doctor implies a lack of trust that we will pay. When unsure if my insurance covered a certain medication, I had to pay up front, and was told that I would be reimbursed if it was covered. This is after being a patient of this group for over 10 years. I understand that things are tough for physicians in today's financial & insurance climate, but I was quite offended to see my doctor advertising a botox sale/party on roadside signs as you would see during a political campaign. When I changed to another doctor, I was charged the maximum allowed by law per page to transfer my records. I have nothing against Dr. Adams personally or medically. Just fed up with how the office operates.

We couldn't believe the way she was speaking to her on the phone. She refused to spell words for my grandmother, and was rudely impatient with her.

She has a lot of nurse practitioners that work with her.  I check in , check up, and check out.  I highly recommend her.

My last visit was for my physical. I like the specific doctor that I work with; he is really good. I would continue to use them in the future.

She is excellent. If I have a problem, I'm able to go right in. She is very thorough and follows thru with check ups. She is all around a great practitioner. The price indicated is my co-pay.
