Dan and All of his guys were great! From start to finish - Dan walked us through the process, explained every detail, and presented us with very reasonable prices. During the whole job - Dan was always available to answer any question or concern that we had, and he always made sure that we were comfortable and happy throughout the job - even when some unexpected issues came up with the extra pipes in our ceiling. He is very trustworthy, knowledgeable, and transparent - which made the process of not having our kitchen available that much easier to deal with. Even with some of the unexpected issues that came up - Dan managed to keep the job within the time limit that he promised us. I would definitely hire Dan again in a heart beat!

It was done in a timely and professional manner. They addressed any problems head on, and made good on anything we questioned or preferred a different way, at no extra charge. I felt safe in their competent hands.

Fantastic team.  Worked tirelessly and uncomplaining.  Waheed worked with us to complete before a wedding and he never complained and always met deadlines. Their work is beautiful and I will work with them again.
Beautiful calcutta marble and fabrication work. My kitchen is the envy of the neighborhood!

I was very pleased with every aspect of the job; demolition, framing, wiring, plumbing, sheet rock, spackling, cabinetry, finishing work, and granite were all done to my high standards and expectations. I had many compliments from friends and family members and I would certainly recommend this company for my next project including anyone who reads this review.

This was a really big, long job and so it was very important to the quality of our lives that the people in our house were nice to be around. Fortunately for us, Bruce only hires the best so it wasn't a problem. Our home was a pleasant place to be even at the height of the remodeling and our cats grew very fond of the workmen. (When they weren't installing the air-conditioning ducts that is - that was noisy & the cats hated it! Fortunately it only took a few days). Our house dates from just before central air became a fixture in American life and it was something we had always wanted but we thought it would be too disruptive to install. Bruce looked over our house & figured out how it could be done with minimal disruption, with two separate systems, one for the second floor and the other for the first floor and basement. It's made an enormous difference to our lives and we are having a wonderful time this summer what with having had AC installed last summer ( owing to me being a bit behind in writing reviews, I'm writing this review in summer of 2012 about work carried out in summer of 2011 - I suppose the upside is that at least the reader can be assured that all the work has stood up to a year of use with no issues!).  In addition we had a new boiler installed, our old one was a cast iron and would have continued to work for the next several hundred years without issue, but it was very wasteful with fuel and our new boiler has saved us a lot in heating oil. We also got a new larger hot water tank and a new electrical panel, our old electrical panel was a bit eccentric and eccentricity is not what one looks for in an electric system. Our new one is safe and fully capable of dealing with our electrical loads.
The basement remodel was very thorough, from the stairs to the length of the hall, the only room we didn't redo was the bathroom, which had been remodeled fairly recently. Everything else was made new. The stairs needed new carpet and a bit of fresh sheetrock on the walls and then the stair walls were lined with cork tiles to make a huge pinboard. The bannister was also tightened up. As I mentioned above, one element that Bruce added to our plan was a window in the den/guest room, so that we would be fully compliant with the local laws. To install the window a large pit was dug in the garden (without disrupting our plants) to sink a window well, which has a built in escape ladder for emergencies. And the added natural light makes the den a much nicer place to be. A glass door system was also installed into the den fireplace that is so nice we are considering getting one for the living room as well.  A part of the den was nipped out and turned into a large walk in craft cupboard lined with wire shelving. We love it, and well we should- Bruce designed it to meet our needs exactly. Another room was turned into a library, with built in shelves lining all the walls, and free-standing shelves in the middle of the floor (we have thousands and thousands of books), this worked out really well, the wooden shelves are very attractive (and Bruce built them to match the floor-to-ceiling shelves in one of the upstairs studies) and having a library makes a lot of sense for our house. We still have a lot of bookcases scattered throughout the house, but having the bulk of our collection in one place eases the pressure on the rest of the rooms. The workmen were very good about moving and storing our books while the work was being carried out, and they are all in good condition. The laundry room needed the most work of all, it was left unfinished and before Bruce came it didn't even have walls or a ceiling. Now it has walls, ceiling, flooring, extensive shelving and two large closets. It also has a workbench and Bruce figured out a way to fix permanent laundry lines for us, because sometimes we like to air-dry our laundry.  Bruce also sorted out a utility closet off the hallway, in its original state it gave him the willies (something about loose and exposed electrical wiring, he seemed amazed that our house hadn't burned down decades ago) and he not only made it safe he made it nicer and more useful as well with new flooring and shelving and a new door.
As you can probably tell, we don't know a lot about houses, or construction, and the great thing about hiring Bruce is that we don't have to. He is a very honest, hardworking, caring man and he takes care of everything. He organized the whole job, chose great contractors, supervised them perfectly, was right there every time we needed him, and we felt very secure and safe with the job in his hands. We knew everything would be done right, and would be done on time and for a fair price and during the whole long job we never had to stress about it or worry about anything, we could just get on with our lives and our own work, know that the house was in Bruce's capable hands. I totally recommend him to anyone looking for a hassle-free, drama-free contractor. He's awesome!

Bruce is awesome. Honestly, if you are looking at lots of reports and wondering which company to go with, just pick him. You won't be sorry! He really knows what he is doing, and he's hard working, honest and pleasant to work with. And so are the people that work for him. We've had Start to Finish Construction do lots of jobs for us and we plan on having him do more in the future, because we just feel so secure working with him and everything he has done for us has been just fantastic.  We never had to wonder what was going on - the crew was always here working whenever Bruce said they would be here, and we were always kept in the picture about the progress of the jobs. Bruce is really happy to work with us and give us exactly what we want, exactly the way we want it. We like to have precise, itemized estimates before work is done and Bruce gives those to us and he sticks to them. The only time he didn't is when he charged us less than the estimate. For example, he managed to figure out what was wrong with a bathroom we had had remodelled by another, inferior, company a few years ago. That bathroom always leaked from the beginning & the previous company told us that bathrooms always leak a bit. We'd had a few plumbers look at it over the years but it continued to leak. Bruce had a good look at the bathroom, found the problem, fixed it, and not only did he fix it, he fixed it for $100 less than he had estimated the job would cost and then he gave the savings to us, cutting our bill by $100 to $650. Getting another bathroom remodelled cost us $8,700 and it was worth every penny. Bruce turned a leaky, dingy 1960's era bathroom into a delightful, well made, modern bathroom. They gutted the old bathroom and refitted it from the sheetrock out, even installing a new window.  We wanted to keep our old toilet since it was the only thing in the bathroom worth saving and they carefully removed it and stored it until it could be reinstalled, everything else was replaced from the tiles to the robe hook. It was a big job but since all the workmen were really nice people it didn't feel like the work was intrusive on our family life.  When we decided to get the room wallpapered as a finishing touch Bruce recommended a great paper hanger who was also a delight to work with and did a fantastic job. Everytime I have a bubblebath I feel grateful to Start to Finish, they made that room a really nice place to relax.  The outside work was done really fast and made our house much sounder. We had saplings in our gutters and rotting wood on our deck/porch and around our garage. Start to Finish fixed these areas up and our new leaf-protected gutters have held up beautifully even over the course of a really harsh winter. Getting our gutters replaced cost us $4,410 and getting the rotten wood, etc dealt with cost $1,207. So as you can see Start to Finish have done a wide variety of work for us and we are so happy to have found a great company we can trust and plan to use them again in the future. They do a great job, they do it when they say they are going to do it, they stick to their estimates and they are really nice people that it is a pleasure to have in our home.
