    Above & Beyond Carpentry Inc.
I cannot recommend Above & Beyond Carpenter and Mark Wirth highly enough. He has exceeded all our expectations and proven himself an expert carpenter and craftsman with high standards of quality, professionalism, honesty and customer service. In fact, I consider Mark to be a member of our family. It is very rare to find a contractor or any professional of his caliber.

    Creatively Done Home Improvements
Work was done over two days. Brandon worked on siding repairs and bird nest issue on day 1. Tony and Kevin came on second day. Tony continued to work on the siding repairs, and Kevin focused on the deck repairs and crown molding. I appreciated that Kevin purchased the needed materials for each job in advance and brought receipts. I found him to be knowledgeable, good at communicating, experienced and straightforward. Labor was about $1,200 total over the two days; plus about another $450 for the supplies.

From the beginning to the end, Scott and his crew were great. Even when I made suggestions, they told me how to do it better. Love that. And they were polite and professional through out. Really, I think he's one of the best service providers I have ever used.

First, don't be limited in your view of this company because it has the words "Mica Designs" in its name. It is true that Carl is adept at making formica covered furniture and cabinets, but now he mostly works with wood kitchen cabinets. I first encountered Carl close to 20 years ago when I was seeking someone to make a long narrow formica-covered table to fit behind my sofa. I found him in the yellow pages. That table came out precisely as I wanted, and several years later I asked him to make a small formica-covered table with drawers for my kitchen. About 4 months ago my wife and I decided that our formica kitchen cabinets were old-fashioned, so we went to a well-regarded local company specializing in kitchen and bath remodeling. We had wanted highly modern white acrylic cabinets. The firm did not offer them, but we were convinced to settle for painted white cabinets. We also wanted three new granite countertops to replace our old the formica ones, and the the remodeling firm recommended a particular granite fabricator.  (We would be getting some new appliances, but that was our  responsibility.)
We got to the point where the remodeling firm totaled up the cost of our project; it was far more than we wanted to spend. I then suggested to my wife that we should ask Carl if he wanted to bid on the cabinetry work. He visited our home and told us that we could get the look we wanted by simply refacing our existing cabinets in acrylic on wood. We also asked him to change some of the cabinets from from doors to drawers, and since we were buying a different sized oven and a drawer microwave, to build new cabinets for these. Carl recommended a different granite fabricator. Because Carl's bid was so good, and the  granite farbicator he recommended charged far less than the one recommended by the remodeling firm, the new cost was half what the remodeling firm had quoted.
The entire project is now completed. Carl turned out to be the best craftsman we have ever worked with. He was very good about keeping us informed of his schedule and showing up when he said he would. More importantly, he is extraordinarily conscientious and meticulous in his work. He is not satisfied until everything looks perfect. From time to time we would change our minds about what we wanted, and Carl always accomomdated us without complaint and without charging extra, even if it meant a small amount of extra work. In fact, he needs to come back for one of the changes and I will insist on paying him even though he said it wasn't necessary. At first, my wife was a little nervous about using Carl rather the the remodeling firm, but by the time the project was over she became his biggest fan. We cannot say enough good things about the quality of his work and what a nice guy he is. Going with Carl turned out to be a great decision in all respects.

North Shore Closets & Cabinetry Inc.
Recommended by our designer Rosanne Lombardo, North Shore Closets was a pleasure to work with and the final products are amazing. Betty measured and designed the closets to our needs. She looked at all of our clothes, measured them and tailor fit the closets to match. Her suggestions on where we should store our things were spot-on. The custom built laundry room cabinets were a challenge but perfectly executed. The installers were expertly skilled, polite and super clean. We did not even have to wipe down the shelves or vacuum the closets before we put our clothes in. We couldn't be happier and would highly recommend this company. Shop around but then hire these people! (BTW we moved into our new house and found that the previous owner had removed all the shelves and poles in every closet in the house. North Shore Closets really started from scratch!)

This was a really big, long job and so it was very important to the quality of our lives that the people in our house were nice to be around. Fortunately for us, Bruce only hires the best so it wasn't a problem. Our home was a pleasant place to be even at the height of the remodeling and our cats grew very fond of the workmen. (When they weren't installing the air-conditioning ducts that is - that was noisy & the cats hated it! Fortunately it only took a few days). Our house dates from just before central air became a fixture in American life and it was something we had always wanted but we thought it would be too disruptive to install. Bruce looked over our house & figured out how it could be done with minimal disruption, with two separate systems, one for the second floor and the other for the first floor and basement. It's made an enormous difference to our lives and we are having a wonderful time this summer what with having had AC installed last summer ( owing to me being a bit behind in writing reviews, I'm writing this review in summer of 2012 about work carried out in summer of 2011 - I suppose the upside is that at least the reader can be assured that all the work has stood up to a year of use with no issues!).  In addition we had a new boiler installed, our old one was a cast iron and would have continued to work for the next several hundred years without issue, but it was very wasteful with fuel and our new boiler has saved us a lot in heating oil. We also got a new larger hot water tank and a new electrical panel, our old electrical panel was a bit eccentric and eccentricity is not what one looks for in an electric system. Our new one is safe and fully capable of dealing with our electrical loads.
The basement remodel was very thorough, from the stairs to the length of the hall, the only room we didn't redo was the bathroom, which had been remodeled fairly recently. Everything else was made new. The stairs needed new carpet and a bit of fresh sheetrock on the walls and then the stair walls were lined with cork tiles to make a huge pinboard. The bannister was also tightened up. As I mentioned above, one element that Bruce added to our plan was a window in the den/guest room, so that we would be fully compliant with the local laws. To install the window a large pit was dug in the garden (without disrupting our plants) to sink a window well, which has a built in escape ladder for emergencies. And the added natural light makes the den a much nicer place to be. A glass door system was also installed into the den fireplace that is so nice we are considering getting one for the living room as well.  A part of the den was nipped out and turned into a large walk in craft cupboard lined with wire shelving. We love it, and well we should- Bruce designed it to meet our needs exactly. Another room was turned into a library, with built in shelves lining all the walls, and free-standing shelves in the middle of the floor (we have thousands and thousands of books), this worked out really well, the wooden shelves are very attractive (and Bruce built them to match the floor-to-ceiling shelves in one of the upstairs studies) and having a library makes a lot of sense for our house. We still have a lot of bookcases scattered throughout the house, but having the bulk of our collection in one place eases the pressure on the rest of the rooms. The workmen were very good about moving and storing our books while the work was being carried out, and they are all in good condition. The laundry room needed the most work of all, it was left unfinished and before Bruce came it didn't even have walls or a ceiling. Now it has walls, ceiling, flooring, extensive shelving and two large closets. It also has a workbench and Bruce figured out a way to fix permanent laundry lines for us, because sometimes we like to air-dry our laundry.  Bruce also sorted out a utility closet off the hallway, in its original state it gave him the willies (something about loose and exposed electrical wiring, he seemed amazed that our house hadn't burned down decades ago) and he not only made it safe he made it nicer and more useful as well with new flooring and shelving and a new door.
As you can probably tell, we don't know a lot about houses, or construction, and the great thing about hiring Bruce is that we don't have to. He is a very honest, hardworking, caring man and he takes care of everything. He organized the whole job, chose great contractors, supervised them perfectly, was right there every time we needed him, and we felt very secure and safe with the job in his hands. We knew everything would be done right, and would be done on time and for a fair price and during the whole long job we never had to stress about it or worry about anything, we could just get on with our lives and our own work, know that the house was in Bruce's capable hands. I totally recommend him to anyone looking for a hassle-free, drama-free contractor. He's awesome!

The people were very good and the price was very good.  The owner is the person who installed the cabinets and he takes a lot of pride in his work; he is a real craftsman.  He is easy to work with, the quality of his work was phenomenal, and he did everything that he said he would when he said he would do it.  It was a real crunch job but he worked with me on it and did a fine job.

They were very good. They came on time, they did the job and they left, at the price they agreed at. I liked everything about them.
