    Jim did a professional job with both the extension of the kitchen area and the complete demo and rebuilding of the 40+ year old kitchen. During all this work, he spent time to ensure that everything was straight and level, even though the house wasn't. He is a careful professional and did not rush to complete something if it did not seem correct. He worked with the kitchen cabinet and floor supplier and was present to monitor any work that he did not personally perform. He also offered options and considered any requests that I made, his price was reasonable, and he kept me informed as to what the schedule was. I recommend Jim as an excellent contractor.

    First of all, i asked for a suggestion for someone to replace some siding on my house on Facebook.  I got several suggestions and decided to give Mike a call.  First off, he returned my call very promptly.  Second, he showed up, which is a small miracle when dealing with many service providers.  He showed up on time, was very professional.  He told me what he was going to do, how he was going to do it and did it.  All the jobs he has done have gone the same way.  He shows up when he says he is going to show up, does the work at a reasonable price and finishes when he says he is going to finish.  Very neat, very concerned about your property and does work like he is working on his own house.

    The quality of the replacement vinyl windows seems very good. I am happy with the value for the money I spent on them. The storm door and front door seem of excellent quality, but are pricey.
    The installation started on time, but ended quite late in the day because the crew was missing some helpers. Despite the lack of help, the two engineers installed the windows and doors with minimal mess. I was worried that I would spend the entirety of the next day cleaning up, but instead I had only a bit of vacuuming and wipe down of the installation areas.
    I am impressed with the service of the installers, and if the windows and doors hold up well, I will definitely use them again in the future if I ever replace more doors or windows.

    Shine Through Windows
    We have so many windows in our home that we needed to look at cost vis a vis which windows were dirtiest, most looked through, and which windows needed to be cleaned inside and out. We landed on about 30 windows. The work was truly terrific. There were a couple of things I should have asked about - whether they are part of the service or part of it for an additional fee. For example, i wasn't sure if they washed the screens and that needed to be done on the windows that did have screens. I also did not ask if they wipe the window sills outside and when the windows are open. This is important because many of the windows are inaccessible without a professional climbing up to do it. Regarding access, it was clear to Andrew that he needs an even longer ladder (he had a 24 foot one!) to get to all our windows and next year we will definitely remind him about that. Nevertheless, even without full access to every last window there were some critical ones i really wanted cleaned and Andrew found a way to get on the roof and clean them. We were grateful for this level of commitment and professionalism.  Obviously, this guy  takes pride in his work. We will continue to use Shine Through Windows and would not hesitate to recommend them to others in need of window cleaning services.

    I noticed a large crack in the lower sash of a double hung Marvin Integrity Window in December.  This is a $150-$170 part.  Marvin only sells to consumers through retailers, and the Marvin website directed me to RBS as the closest such retailer.  This RBS location (Greenvale, NY, is a dedicated Marvin Design Gallery.
    In the last week of December, I called and left a message with the receptionist explaining what I needed.  I was told someone would get back to me.  No one did.  A few days later, I called again and was asked to leave a voicemail for Mark, and I did.  Mark returned my call a few days later while I was at work, but said he needed certain information from the window itself to follow up on my request.  When I got home, I obtained the info and called back the next day, but was asked to leave another message.  No one got back to me for several days.  This continued for another several weeks (I left voicemails for Mark and the receptionist took other messages) before I heard back.  At that time, I provided all of the requested details, but was told that they would have to contact Marvin directly to figure out when my window was made to see exactly what part I needed, which would take at least a few days if not longer, and then they would get back to me with cost and timing details.  I later learned that this was simply not true (see below), but more importantly, I never heard back.  Every time I called, I was told that Mark was "out to lunch" or "with a customer," and was asked to leave a message.  I left two additional voicemails for Mark and one additional message with the receptionist (to whom I politely explained my frustration at having been ignored), but no one ever called me back.  My final call was in the first week of March, two months after I started the process.
    Later that week--on Saturday--I called another Marvin dealer a few miles away.   The woman there took my information and gave me a price on the spot.  Like RBS, she said she needed to check with Marvin regarding one detail.  But unlike RBS, she called me back 10 minutes later--on a Saturday--having already obtained the information without having to wait for anything from Marvin.  When I explained my situation with RBS, she was baffled and couldn't believe the BS they fed me.  I placed the order on the spot, and received the window 10 days later after Marvin shipped the order from North Dakota to NY.
    In short, I was disappointed with the unprofessional lack of attention I received from RBS.  I got the feeling that they couldn't be bothered by the relatively small order I wanted to place, and didn't want my business.  If that was their goal, they succeeded.  I will never shop at this or any other RBS location (there are many around here) again.  If RBS reads this, I strongly suggest they look into the way that their branches treat customers.  At the end of the day, the small orders are just as important as the large ones.

    When my original contractor could not produce his contracting license I hired Jim without having had any experience with him. Jim's workmanship proved to be second to none. Everything Jim lays his hands to is done at a very high level. He is very dependable and honorable and fair on pricing. He focuses on his work and gets a lot done every day. After seeing everything Jim was able to do it is clear to me that there is virtually nothing he cannot do. It turned out to be a lucky break that my original contractor was not able to do the job. Going forward I would not think of using anyone else.

    The salesperson was very nice and seemingly professional. The order for the exterior door was expedited, because the existing door had been damaged in a break-in, and we were quite happy with the product and especially the installer-absolutely no complaints, as we expected after spending almost $1400 for a single door. The second order, placed at the same time in July, with an estimated completion date of 8-10 weeks, was a nightmare. After taking a deposit of $800 from us, Elegant Entries basically disappeared. Measurements of the basement windows were taken the first week in August. The windows were installed in November after weeks of phone calls, made during normal business hours, that were never returned within 24 hours. The secretary/receptionist was pleasant, but even she returned calls many hours after they were placed and was merely being polite-and calling to tell us that the people with information about our order were busy. In short, the windows, promised within 8-10 weeks took nearly twice as long to arrive. The interior door arrived two months after that, after a "false start" in December when the installer arrived with a door and declared that the measurements taken-in July-had been wrong and a new door would need to be ordered. Even the replacement door, installed about 3 weeks after that, was not a "fit," and needed to be "gerry rigged" by the installer. It is not perfect, but I decided to live with it in the spirit of cutting my losses. The price of this interior door-$619, aggravation apparently gratis. To be fair, the installers that EE used were all professional and performed their work neatly and efficiently. However, given the premium prices charged by this company, they completely fail in the area of customer service.
