    It was a very positive experience.  Dr. Metwally was so sweet and comfortable to talk to.  The sedation was wonderful!  I would recommend this practice highly.
    They do book initial appts several months out, that is the only issue.

    Coming from a completely medical family (father internist/cardiologist, mother RN, brother pediatric pulmonology) I know what it is to "give good medicine" and this place certainly knows how.
    Albany Gastroenterology is a large group, but that does not mean it's impersonal.  With one small exception, everyone I worked with there was professional, exceedingly kind, and focused on the patient.
    I had an endoscopy done.  For those that don't know, that's the little tube camera the goes down your throat and checks out your esophagus and stomach.  Most people are apprehensive, and I was no exception.
    Dr. Orris is one of the "big names" there, and while he wasn't jolly/cuddly friendly, he was cordial and very sharp.  His appointment scheduler made sure I could get in quickly but without impinging on my work schedule (I am an entrepreneur who travels a lot; if I don't travel, I don't work and don't get paid).
     The experience today was almost flawless.  I had my procedure done in their surgical suite upstairs from their main offices.  The only complaint I had was with their receptionist, who, when I said I was here for an endoscopy, flippantly said "Better you than me." Absolutely uncalled for, unprofessional and unfeeling.  We reported her to a couple of people for a reprimand and some sensitivity training.
    But she was the only bad apple.  Lindsay, my prep nurse, was cheerful and very patient with all of my questions.  She paid close attention when I explained I'd had a double mastectomy and that no IVs or blood pressure cuffs could be used on my right arm.  She marked the arm clearly so nobody would make a mistake.  She was the one who placed the needle for the conscious sedation drip, and take it from someone who has had a lot of surgeries and a lot of needle sticks -- it was smooth, easy, and barely a pinch.  She's really good.  She listened to my apprehensions and was willing to work with me with whatever it took to make sure I was willing to go through with the procedure.
    Next, we have Paula; another bright and cheerful nurse (but not "fake cheery" -- I know what that's like!), again at the top of her game.  I explained to her that if I was afraid that there were certain key phrases and affirmations she could say to me and it would calm me down.  She loved the idea, took my typed list and clipped it to the front of her materials.    When we got into the surgical suite itself, and I explained that I had trouble with throat-numbing materials, she agreed with my suggestion to "up the Versed" before I took them.
    And *PING* that is the last thing I remember!  Apparently I did beautifully.  Could have fooled me; I didn't even know when they started.  
    Michael, my third nursing partner, was very solicitous and made sure I was warm enough, had water, and was clear in the brain and steady on the legs before I got dressed and went out to meet my husband.
    Dr. Orris came by with his findings (how lucky! nothing awful) and instructions, and we were sent home with pretty pictures and descriptions of the procedure, and some instructions.  (Trust me; unless you are a doctor, your insides look pretty weird, but it's always good to have the information for your own medical file.)
    This is medicine the way it should be practiced.  No, none of us wants to go through "getting scoped" but these folks can be trusted to do a great job.  HIghly recommended.

    This office got us in, but it took a while, and then ended up scheduling an endoscopy, during which he was tested for allergic reaction and for celiac disease. I later found out he should have had an ultrasound (less invasive, no anesthesia, much cheaper) FIRST, and they scheduled that after - as a and quot;let's rule it outand quot; thing. In addition, they hadn't told me they were testing for celiac during the endoscopy - that test is invalid if the child has not had wheat daily for at least 4-6 weeks, and he hadn't had any because of a previous allergic reaction. He ALSO should have been off his Prevacid for a few days, and I was told he didn't need to be when I asked. So unless I repeat the test, putting my child under - AGAIN - the results are invalid and of no help. We still don't have a resolution on his gas pains.

    I really like him. He's very good, and a very nice guy. He's good at what he does, and he follows up with you. He checks you up for everything that you need. He does what he needs to do. He's hard to get to see, sometimes you have to wait.

    I have had three visits with Dr. Litynski at Digestive Diseases.
    Digestive Diseases is horrible about answering phone calls. I once waited 7 minutes for a secretary to pick up. I hung up in frustration as no one picked up. I had to leave messages on the nurse's answering machine. I found the ideal time to call her is after lunch promptly at 1:30. If you don't call at that time, do not expect a response back.
    I had a colonoscopy done by Dr Litynski. I had to wait for over an hour until he finally showed up. He made a bad situation even worse. I was so frustrated after this situation, but I knew I had to persist until I heard the results.
    Today, I had my third appointment with Dr. Litynski. The appointment was scheduled for 3:10PM. The nurse finally took me in at 3:50. I waited until 4:15 for Dr. Litnski to arrive. When he did arrive, it was clear that he looked through none of the results of the tests he put me through. They have an electronic medical records system, so for 7-10 minutes, he had to type all the results from the tests into the computer, all while I was waiting. I suppose when I finally did meet with him, he did an OK job, although he was entering information into the computer all while he was supposed to be listening to me. I got out of the appointment at 4:38, absolutely livid.
    If I can find another provider, I will go to them, wherever they may be located.

    Dr. William Gusten treats me for GERD and performed an endoscopy on me at the Burnt Hills location in the past. Today was the colonoscopy at the same location. The staff was courteous, informative, and professional. They now have Albany Anesthesia Associates physicians and staff on site so the sedation is deeper and the wakeup is quicker. Start to finish, once in the prep room, was an hour and we had the printed results in hand before we left the building. Dr. Gusten stopped by before and after the procedure and took the time necessary to speak with me and my wife, answering questions to our satisfaction. Given the nature of the procedure and the preparation, this was as pleasant an experience as it could be.
