  • Peter was responsive and delivere on time and as promised. He charged an extra $20 for delivery based on my location which he fully disclosed upfront. The wood was a nice mix of hardwoods and looks well seasoned. He also threw in a bundle of kindling, which was a nice touch. I would use his services again in the future.

  • I placed an order for split, seasoned firewood to be delivered and stacked on my back patio. I included a chopping block (stump) in the order. It took several phone calls to arrange for the delivery. The delivery was completed timely and stacked well on the back patio. However, no one had communicated to the delivery guys that the order included a chopping block. They agreed to drop it by the house and place it on the back patio in the next few days. Well, 10 days later, and several follow-up phone calls, I eventually found the chopping block on the far corner of my front driveway and had to solicit help getting it to where it was supposed to be delivered, the back patio. Why take the time and energy to leave this review? How effectively do they manage the large projects when something this simple was poorly executed?

  • Called four times for firewood service. Left four messages. They did not
return one of the four calls during a two week period of calling. I
would hope leaving a message to an unanswered call should be returned in
a timely fashion to conduct business.

  • After the first day or so, I was getting nervous. It seemed that Dan did not know what he was doing. But, apparently he did some research and found out how to do the job properly and he redid some of what was already finished to make it safe.
When we initially went over the project, he yesed me to death but obviously did not understand half of what had to be done. He loses points for that but gains points for fixing what he messed up.
Overall the job looks good. Looks great in fact. However, instead of hauling out two 5 gallon pails of brick and mortar chips, he shoved them down the old fireplace cleanout, along with the old cleanout trap door that he broke.
He had told me some story about it having fallen down the cleanout and he couldn't reach it to get it. I discovered the reason he couldn't get it was that it was buried in all of the debris and I had to fill a 5 gallon pail twice to get to it, which was when I discovered it to be broken.
The original estimate was for $2800. I added 8 square feet of field stone work that needed to be done. He charged me an extra $1000. I told him that if the job didn't look so good, I would have told him to pound sand that $1000 was way more than 8 square feet was worth. He was charging me for extra time that he didn't anticipate because he didn't know how to do the job initially.
He'd still have a good review from me if I didn't find that debris stashed in my cleanout. I paid good money for the job . I shouldn't have to clean it up too. And because he was dishonest about it, well, he's not ever coming back to my house for anything.

  • Steve the owner, said it was a new employee who made the delivery
and must have made the mistake regarding amount. I have called them
20 times since the delivery and I keep getting
promises from Steve he would return my call and take care of the
issue. They never call back, EVER! I have given up on the lip service after 2 months and decided
to leave this message as a warning to others about S&M Firewood
    518-495-9129. They are scammers.

  • Peter delivered a mix of seasoned and partially seasoned firewood. He responded quickly and the delivery was done the next day. The wood is high quality and burns nicely.
