Fireplace Repair reviews in Schenectady

The worker arrived on time, put down cloths to protect room. Did wonderful job cleaning a never-serviced, 16 year-old gas fireplace. Dissembled heavy cast iron front. Cleaned fogged windows. He was courteous and well-spoken.

We visited the showroom and spoke with the salesperson, who eventually took our contact information for the owner, Bob, so he could call us to schedule an appointment. Several days passed with no call, so I phoned the store and they had misplaced our information. Bob came out to our house to give us an estimate. He seemed very knowledgeable and courteous, and told us he would call with the final estimate in a few days. It has been 3 weeks and they never called back. Twice, they have forgotten to contact us. I just purchased a home with a chimney/fireplace. The pre-purchase home inspection stated the work should be minimal for the fireplace to operate. I purchased a deal from Angie's List to confirm that inspection report; obviously home inspectors are  not fireplace experts. Joe, from Northeastern Chimney, came promptly, ready to work, and was extremely knowledgeable. It turned out the chimney needed more work than I thought it would. Joe had software with a camera up the chimney to show me the wear and tear that not having the proper topper had caused due to rain. Although I was disappointed to learn the chimney repair was going to be $2500, it was great to deal with Joe. Because I just purchased the home, fixing the chimney is something I will not do this winter, but when I do decide to get the chimney operable, I will be sure to call Northeastern from the professional experience. I have dealt with various companies since purchasing the home for a few things, and this was probably the best experience despite the disappointing news. He did not charge me anything the day of service. The only money I spent was on the Angie's List offer. Highly recommend if you have any chimney needs. A+

They were extremely detailed in their cleaning and inspection. Unfortunately they found that our chimney was deemed unsafe for use, due to neglect from previous owners. They did a fabulous job, were very knowledgeable and informative, as well as provided video and images to show the damage that had occurred over time. In response to that unexpected result, they did give us recommendations and approximate repair costs if we decided to go the route of repairing the wood burning fireplace vs. switching to a gas insert. We would absolutely use them again!

We turned off the pilot light in June and it wouldn't start again.  The fireplace was cleaned and checked out, and they were able to get it started again.  However, I opted out of a repair since I was not going to save any money by having the repair done the same day and since the fireplace was not in immediate need of the repair.  I found it incredible that the company was going to charge me the fee for coming to the house even though the technicians were already there.

They arrived on time and were courteous, very neat and answered all questions.  We discussed the pros and cons  of cleaning the trap in the basement but I declined to have that done.  I will use their services again.

I highly recommend Top Hat a Chimney Sweeps; I worked with Caleb. When he arrived the day of he appointment, he was punctual, very efficient and knowledgable. The chimney has no more water leaks and the wood stove he installed works great especially with the frigid weather we've had this winter.

I visited the Clifton Park store and with the help of Pete selected the doors that I wanted. Pete fully explained the type of logs they use and why. Someone came to the house and inspected the fireplace and took pictures. The 2 people that came to install were professional. They removed the old concrete hearth and when Dan started to install the tile that I had purchased there was an issue about how the tiles were going to fit without having to cut some tiles. He asked me for my input and with ideas from him and me we came up with a way to fit them. I'm very happy with the result. The new chimney cap, gas logs, and new door were installed as well. I'm looking forward to having a fire this winter with just the turn of a knob!

I went to the store to pick out the model and then two guys from Matchless Stove and Chimney Inc came to install the insert. One worked on the chimney and the other worked on the insert. They got it wired downstairs with the gas and electric. They were here a third of the day and they were on time. They got right to work, they were efficient, quick, they cleaned up after themselves, they were polite, knowledgeable, and I was happy with the price. They put a cap on the house for no charge.

After the first day or so, I was getting nervous. It seemed that Dan did not know what he was doing. But, apparently he did some research and found out how to do the job properly and he redid some of what was already finished to make it safe.
When we initially went over the project, he yesed me to death but obviously did not understand half of what had to be done. He loses points for that but gains points for fixing what he messed up.
Overall the job looks good. Looks great in fact. However, instead of hauling out two 5 gallon pails of brick and mortar chips, he shoved them down the old fireplace cleanout, along with the old cleanout trap door that he broke.
He had told me some story about it having fallen down the cleanout and he couldn't reach it to get it. I discovered the reason he couldn't get it was that it was buried in all of the debris and I had to fill a 5 gallon pail twice to get to it, which was when I discovered it to be broken.
The original estimate was for $2800. I added 8 square feet of field stone work that needed to be done. He charged me an extra $1000. I told him that if the job didn't look so good, I would have told him to pound sand that $1000 was way more than 8 square feet was worth. He was charging me for extra time that he didn't anticipate because he didn't know how to do the job initially.
He'd still have a good review from me if I didn't find that debris stashed in my cleanout. I paid good money for the job . I shouldn't have to clean it up too. And because he was dishonest about it, well, he's not ever coming back to my house for anything.
