    BK Masonry
We hired BK Masonry two years ago (April 2016) to seal the exterior of one side of our basement. We had already sealed/waterproofed the entire interior, but were still experiencing some leakage. Due to the excavation necessary to perform the work, we decided to replace the concrete patio by the backdoor and the sidewalk to the driveway. We also decided to include a much needed basement window replacement (5 windows). Bernie quoted and performed the work for $9800. The work was performed in a reasonable amount of time (about 1 week). We thought the price was fair based on the amount of excavation necessary to access the exterior of the basement wall. At the time of completion, we were pleased with the results. The windows were a definite improvement and the new sidewalk and patio seemed good at the time. Since then (past two years) we've had no leakage in the basement and the windows are fine. However, the concrete patio and sidewalk surfaces are deteriorating rapidly (see pictures). The surfaces are flaking over large areas and significant pock marks are developing. I called Bernie about 3 weeks ago to discuss the issue with the concrete. His response was to immediately blame the condition of the concrete on our use of ice melt during the previous two winters. I explained that the deterioration was much more dramatic than salting could explain. Other concrete (not replaced by BK Masonry) in the front of the house has been there for decades and still doesnt show this type of flaking and rapid deterioration. I asked for him to come by and take a look at it and he said he would have to get back to me to check his schedule. About 5 days later, I had not heard from Bernie and called again, and he then agreed, hesitantly, to come by sometime on the weekend to take a look at it. Since he couldnt set a specific date or time, I asked him to call ahead to make sure we were home. He came by on Sunday but didnt call ahead, so we were not home at the time. He then called us and reiterated his belief that the damage to the concrete was solely due to the use of ice melt over the last two winters. He told us that we cant use salt or ice melt, which is a ridiculous statement considering we live in upstate NY. Even if that were the case and actually his belief, he did not once warn us or tell us we shouldnt use ice melt and needed to put protectant on the concrete. Based on research weve conducted and the physical status of the concrete deterioration, I belief the most likely cause of the rapid flaking of the concrete surface is a too high water concentration of the original concrete when it was poured. Using ice melt probably exacerbated the deterioration but was by no means the cause. Ice melt and salt are used regularly throughout the capital region, and if that caused rapid deterioration as we have the roads and walkways would be in much worse condition than they already are. We are very displeased with not only the condition of our concrete but with Bernies reaction and response. From the very beginning he has not once accepted, or even admitted to the possibility, that he incorrect mixed and poured the concrete for our patio and sidewalk. He continues to blame us for the use of ice melt as the sole reason our concrete has deteriorated so dramatically. The only thing he has done was to offer to provide a quote for the repairs. It has been two weeks since he said he would provide a quote and we have not heard anything from him. In my opinion, at this point he is doing his best to ignore us and hope we go away. I find this and his refusal to accept responsibility for the condition of our concrete to be highly unprofessional, and at this time, even if he offered to repair it for free, I would be extremely unlikely to have him conduct the repairs.

    All Dry Basement
While starting a renovation project in the basement, we found standing water underneath the stair case to the basement. We call All-Dry and they were magnificent from start to finish. A gentlemen cam to our home, diagnosed the problem and proposed a solution. Todd called the day before to let use know what time he would arrive to start the work. Todd and Kyle arrived on time and ready to work. The project was discussed a few changes were made. Both Todd and Kyle worked very hard and cleaned up every night before going home. Todd answered all of our questions and was very meticulous about his work. We will use this company again as they have a flooring solution for our basement as well.

I would highly recommend Joshua's work. He was prompt, clean, neat and did everything I asked to complete the project. His workers where also neat and respectful. I have also hired him for another project later in the year based on the work he completed.

    BK Masonry
The job took just over a week. Bernie was there pretty much every day working (other than when the weather didn't support). The initial digging and sealing only took a couple days. He also brought in some extra top soil to fill in some low areas after the initial trench was filled. The windows installation took some time because of the old framing, but he spent the time to do it right and cement in the new windows. He even took to the time to correct his assistant when the work wasn't to his standards. The new sidewalk was laid down at a good level and brushed. We very happy to not have to walk through large puddles anymore. Bernie was always willing to talk and explain what he was doing. He never show impatience from our questions and took the time to make sure we understood everything that was happening. We're very happy with the results. I would use Bernie again if I needed additional concrete work.

Joshua, owner of this business, is hardworking, honest, cheerful, and performs quality work. As a widow, I have come in contact with businesses that try to sell me more services than I need. I have no worries like this with Joshua. I have been doing business with him for a few years now and am so thankful that I found such a great handyman.
Most recently he replaced my dry well and it is working fine.
I had quite a problem with water in my basement following rain or snow melt. Last year I had Joshua replace a basement wall - he is one of a few who can properly perform masonry work. Now, prior to hiring Joshua to do such a big job, I did call other companies for an estimate of the cost and for knowledge about how they would fix my problem of water in my basement. I also asked for references from each of these companies. Not only did Joshua come in below the other companies in price, his references were outstanding! Not one person had a bad thing to say about him or his work. Some of the references from other
highly rated companies were not so good and some told me to stay away from them. Needless to say, I hired Joshua and he did a great job replacing my basement wall and I now have a dry basement.
Recently I replaced the linoleum on my kitchen floor. Yes, I had Joshua do it and anther great job by an expert handyman!!
Joshua is trustworthy - he will tell you if he can perform a job or not. To date I have not found anything this fellow cannot do and do with expertise.
I highly recommend calling Joshua for fixing any problem areas inside or outside of your home!!

    CleanBright Surface Restoration
Matt was very responsive to our call for help and immediately instituted measures to mitigate the effects of flooding in our basement. He explained what needed to be done to remedy the damage and deal with issues related to mold. He also provided professional advice on ways to keep our basement dry and free from further damage (e.g., placement of our humidifier in basement, need to obtain a humidifier that covered more square footage). We really appreciated Matt's (and his crew) professionalism, reliability, and hard work. They were there when we needed them and they did an excellent job in addressing our basement flooding. So pleased with the job and plan to use CleanBright Surface Restoration in the near future to waterproof our basement walls.

    CleanBright Surface Restoration
Matt is great. Starting from my I initial email to him he was very responsive and super helpful. He came out fast to give us and estimate. No long wait. Then as our project needs evolved based on other factors, he answered tons of questions and was flexible enough to change scope and method as we needed. Once we decided on the final plan he was able to get in quickly and do the work. He was on time and he and his brother are great guys. They communicated well during the job and were honest and transparent about any small issues that arose. They did the job well and left the site in great condition. I would highly recommend them to anyone who needs these services. Thank you Matt!

    Basement Waterproofing Inc
I had a contract with the company to arrive on April 14th at 10am. They stated it typically takes a day, but we reserved two days, just in case they needed more time to finish. On the first day of the project I received a call around 9:30am from one of the workers coming that day stating that they are running late and wouldn't be at my home until 12:30pm. They showed up a little after 1pm. There were 3 men. When they arrived they handed me a paper to sign. It had a section that needed to be filled out by them first, so I asked "do you need to fill this section in?" the foreman said yes, so I waited on the paper until he could review it with me. They started working and jackhammering the basement to form the trenches where the piping would fit. As they were doing it one of the men hit an already exposed sewer line. He was honest and told us right away. I wasn't sure what this meant, so I asked if they fix it or what I'm suppose to do. They stated that I had to get it fixed and said that's why we have you sign that paper. I was confused and told them that we didn't even finished that paper yet and I needed to call the owner. I called him and informed him of what was going on. He asked about the paperwork and I stated I hadn't even signed it yet. He stated that they would cover the expense of the plumber to come and fix the hit pipe. I paid the plumber up front and they subtracted the bill from my overall payment.
The men worked on drilling out the trench and making the drill holes on the outside of the home. They left around 5-5:30 on the first night.
They arrived the next morning around 10:30am to finish the job. The men seemed very friendly and helped to explain each step. They took quite a bit of time throughout the day, which I didn't have an issue with, except for the fact that they worked until 9:30pm at night. The work they did outdoors was all done in the dark. I also have small children (under age 5) and the loud noise until 9:30pm was a bit challenging.
At the end of the evening they handed me a sheet that asked me to inspect the project. The sheet asked me if the drilled holes outside were filled properly, if the downspout for the sump pump was at a downward pitch, and etc..
I couldn't properly evaluate what happened outside, since it was dark. I asked if I could fill that sheet out in the morning and return and they said yes. I paid my final payment and gave it to the foreman that evening.
My inspection found that the outside holes seem a bit carelessly filled. There are holes drilled around every 2ft around my house and you can obviously see them. I feel this could have been done a bit better or perhaps cleaned up better so the holes aren't so noticeable. I also noticed that when they drilled the hole for the pipe for the sump pump to the outside quite a bit of the stucco on the outside of the house chipped off. It was covered from the outside with a messy cement job. There is a pvc pipe coming out of the house sticking out straight around 3ft, no slope at all. It doesn't have any cover or etc. It doesn't look like I hired a professional company to install this. The next day our plumber returned to our home to make sure we were happy with his work. We asked him to look at the pump. He stated that the arrangement of the pipe inside the well looks a bit too close to the pump and that there shouldn't be sand inside that well with the pump (as there was) since it can burn out the pump.
Since I had these concerns and a few more not already mentioned, I called the owner James. He called back right away and said he would come out personally to review my house. I really appreciate his response, since this was a major investment for us. No one called back by the end of the next day, so I called them. The secretary stated that the owner couldn't come out for three weeks. I was a bit frustrated with that long wait and asked if they could try and get to my home sooner. I did notice that the check cleared my bank account yesterday (2 days after the completed job). The owner has very good ratings on the BBB site and this is why we chose them. Since they already have my money, I am putting my faith in their good ratings and hoping that they come and finish this job properly. My current ratings are based on the work I have witnessed so far. Even though I feel the job should have been done properly the first time, I am very happy to improve these ratings if the company is able to help with my current concerns.

The nice thing was they came in and did the estimate.  They didn't push extra things at you that you may or may not want.  They looked at what you needed and listened to what you needed.  When they got to do the job they ran into an issue that was totally unforeseen and no one would have realized until you lift up the concrete floor.  They just kept going and that didn't hang up.  The guy called the boss and told the problem.  They were great and flexible.  They figured out the problem right on the job and they didn't leave us.  The system just works and that is wonderful.  Last summer, we lost power and several of our neighbours flooded their basements but our system kicked right on and pumps all the water out and that was a really good test.  We've been very pleased.  The guys who came for the annual maintenance were great and it's well worth the maintenance.  They come in and clean, put in new parts to your pumps and service everything.  It's not just like they come and look at it.  They were courteous, professional and clean up after themselves.

Kevin Koval (President of company) arrived for scheduled initial site review on time (8/29/13).  He looked over damage to wall, listened to my concerns, and took photos of site.  He discussed some options and said he needed to consult with his mason contractor before he would be able to provide an estimate of repair costs.  He said that once mason had chance to review site, I would be contacted with an estimate of cost and time to complete repair.  It took several weeks for Mason, Nick Flannery, to call me to schedule his visit for site review.  After Mason's site review, it took another few weeks for Kevin to get back to me with cost estimate, $3,200.00, which was $500.00 lower than another company's estimate.  I accepted estimate and was told that once he could make arrangements with mason, they would contact me with a schedule for starting work.  Nick Flannery arrived the day prior to start day to drop off equipment and supplies.  Nick arrived promptly, and excavator operator arrived shortly afterward to begin work.  Excavation was completed on first day, and Nick began removing damaged block wall once a reinforcing system had been installed to support upper floor while wall was being repaired.  I was very impressed with the level of professionalism Nick displayed while working.  but, he was also willing to explain what he was doing, and why, when ever I had any questions.  It took three days to complete all the repairs to wall.  I was very satisfied with the results.  I was very satisfied with the results of the overall project and would not hesitate to call either Adirondack Basement Systems or Nick Flannery in the future for any basement or masonry projects I may have.
