the company was extremely professional - their quote was the best in terms of detail and was prompt in coming back to us - but they were so, so, so expensive that we passed - to put it in context, their quote was in the 80s and we went with a highly rated contractor on this list for the 40s for the exact same piece of work - just too expensive!!

Scheduling was easy.  The "inspector" arrived about 25 min.

Now that those items are out of the way, let me talk about the actual service. This was supposed to be a "Complete Attic & Wall Energy and Ventilation Inspection".  That is misleading and inaccurate.  This is a sales pitch, pure and simple.  Basically the "inspector" took a quick look in a fraction of my room.  In some of those rooms he took the faceplate off an electrical outlet and poked around with a screwdriver to see how much insulation he could feel.  He asked me about how cold certain rooms feel. He went into the attic and looked around with a flashlight from one spot.  Much of the attic is not visible from that spot.  He certainly did not look into my attic ventilation in any way (again, this is supposed to be a "Complete Attic & Wall Energy and Ventilation Inspection").

After his 10 minute "inspection" he requested to sit down with me and my wife.  He really emphasized that my wife had to be there, because important decisions would need to be made.  He then spent 20 minutes on a sales pitch. I mentioned that the inspection was rather brief, and I asked how he could know much about where and how much insulation I needed. I assumed he would need to do a thermal scan of the walls or at least check the temperature of the walls. He explained that thermal scans were a gimmick. I'm certainly not in a position to know one way or the other, so that may be the case. At the very least, shouldn't an "inspection" produce some kind of report?  He wasn't even going to give me a copy of the insulation estimate until I asked to make a copy. If I used the services of a real home inspector I would get a comprehensive written report, and he wouldn't try to sell me anything at the end of the inspection.

Bottom Line: The guy was very nice.  I tried to pump him for as much general information as I could, and he did provide this.  Maybe J C Home Care Center provides really good insulation services...the reviews on Angie's List support that.  I'm not saying anything negative about the company overall.  But let's call this service what it really ESTIMATE FOR ATTIC AND WALL INSULATION.  Then the question is, why did I pay $55 to get an estimate?

If I were you, I would not waste $$ on their "inspections". I am still considering using their insulation services, based on the reviews on Angie's List. However, this sales pitch sold to me as an "inspection" does make me think twice.
