    It went extremely well.



    For your information: I had carpeting installed by Empire when I first moved into

    my house a little over three years ago and I would not use them again for free.

    After warning the installers to be careful not to cut my cable wires they did just that.

    It took a tech. from Time Warner half a day to repair all the damage they did.

    I was without television, computer and telephone service for two days. Luckily I

    have a cellphone.

    STRAIT LINE ROOFING & SIDING
    Without informing me in advance or specifying it in our agreement, Strait Line Roofing (Blair Cooper) subcontracted the work to another company.  The labor was done entirely by G&G Roofing (Guaillas Inc.) out of Middletown, NY with Blair providing limited oversight.  An error on Strait Line?s material order resulted in a drip edge narrower than specified in our agreement being installed. During moderate to heavy rain water drips from the underside edge of the 40' low slope section of roof over my porch.  This is the primary reason my otherwise fine 15 year roof was replaced.  While it previously dripped in a couple places where the shingles were not laid properly, it now drips from the wood along the entire width of roof.  Several knowledgable contractors told me it should not do this period, and the wider drip edge would resolve this.  Blair would not acknowledge this is a problem, and told me I need gutters.  The wider drip edge was available 20 minutes away, however, getting the job done quickly took priority over doing it correctly.   I believe, this was the result of his limited access to the workers of the company he subcontracted to.  And that (according to Blair) he pays them by the square of roofing material installed. During the first substantial snow fall, water dripped from the skylight in my kitchen, it never did this before.  
    Based on these issues and my interaction with Blair over a couple weeks, in my opinion, he is less than honest and his professionalism is lacking. Strait Line?s advertising references a local publications ?best of? award for Roofers. In retrospect the award is meaningless, because there are very few ?Roofers" in the area.  In the future I will use a reputable general contractor with good roofing experience, and its own employees.

    HBO Carports
    We picked out a carport at a distributor in New York state. A deposit was given on 5/18/2013.  HBO contacted us on 6/10/2013 to let us know they would deliver and install it on 6/19/2013.  Arrangements were made to use a vacation day to be on site so we could pay the balance due, and oversee the job.  On 6/19/2013 we got a phone call at 12:30 p.m. and the HBO driver said he was "running behind but would be on location by 5:00 p.m".  Not only did they NOT show up but they didn't even have the courtesy to call us.  If the dirver had called after  5:00 p.m.,  we could have made other arrangements with a neighbor so the job would have gotten done.
    I called the office the next day and the manager claimed she was sorry but was unwilling to do anything other than apologize. She kept asking what would I like her to do?  She felt she was generously offering to refund us our deposit with no consideration for lost time.  No incentive to salvage the sale was offered for any inconvenience.  We cancelled the sale and HBO made no effort to keep our business. The New York distributor was very frustrated as well and returned our deposit.
    My experience was very unpleasant and their staff is very, very unprofessional.

    Overall the experience was terrible. I met with them at my place in late April of 2011, and we discussed the job (at that time 1 retaining wall and the bracing and shoring along the foundation). At first they were very professional and I received an estimate for the work within a week. The the waiting began. The initial work did not begin until late August. In the interim the communication was terrible, it was actually non-existent. I had to constantly follow up to see what was going on.

    The first wall was completed in November. I then foolishly decided to contract with them for a second retaining wall, and the shoring and bracing work had not been completed. I made it clear that the shoring and bracing work had to be done in order for me to decide to do the second wall. They ensured me the work would be done as part of the work on the second wall. They also indicated that they work through the winter. I received my work order within a week for the second part and it was clearly outlined that the shoring and bracing work would be part of the second job.  No work began until Fedbruary. Again, there was no communication throughout this time period and I had to continually reach out see what was going on. The second wall was finished finally in August. By the way, in putting in the second wall they dug up the electric to my well and said nothing. I had to pay out of my own pocket  to have this fixed.
    Then I never heard from them again, I have followed up many times and now they do not return calls or emails. It is clear to me that they do the work they choose to do and not what they agree to do and send you in your work order and the communication is terrible. I would never use these people again and would recomend anyone else to stay away from these guys!!!!
