Ivan and Roman of Progress were excellent! They showed up in a timely matter; were courteous; were very respectful of my home by wearing covers on their shoes; and were very professional and meticulous in their work. They completed all jobs as requested, except for one because I did not have the correct size of exterior louvre vent. They explained the situation, measured for a new size vent and told me they would attempt to find the correct size. I couldn't ask for better service. They even went a half hour over the agreed upon timeframe and did not charge me extra. I was a very happy customer overall and would use them again. Thank you Progress!

    J & J home remodeling

Joe did much work for us. I would note that, for all of the work listed below, Joe took his time in offering many suggestions on the types of materials and options available, even making many decorating suggesions.

After Hurricane Sandy destroyed everything on the ground floor level of our house, including the
rental apartment and the garage, a demolition crew removed the damaged interior doors, sheetrock and flooring. After having the wiring replaced (Joe was not available for that work), Joe worked almost three weeks continuously for us. After running dehumidifiers for over a week, and ensuring that no mold was present, he basically rebuilt the apartment. He replacedseemlesslythe lower half of all the sheet rock (in both the apartment and the garage), installed ceramic tile floors throughout the apartment (excluding the bathroom), replaced the baseboard heater covers, replaced all the upper and lower kitchen cabinets, and replaced all interior doors.

One two other occasions (unrelated to Sandy), he gutted and rebuilt the entire kitchen and a bathroom in our (the owners) apartment. The kitchen was a complete demo. We purchased the cabinets and appliances separately. He replaced the walls and ceiling, removed a space-wasting dormer, and installed new lower and upper cabinets, a new tile backsplash, and installed the appliances, including a built-in microwave w/ the duct work to the outside. [He coordinated his work w/ the electrical crew that was hired separately]. He completed the job over the course of about seven straight days. The only delay was due to the microwave oven having been damaged in shipment to us. When the microwave was finally replaced, he returned on very short notice to install it.

Similarly, the bathroom was a complete demo. He installed new sheetrock, a new tile floor, a new tile (half) walls, tile shower, shower body and fixtures, toilet, vanity, medicine cabinet, and added an exhaust fan w/ duct work. Most difficultly, he removed a cast-iron bathtub that weighed several hundred pounds. It had to be broken in half to be removed. A problem arose when we realized that the new tub would not fit through the door opening, nor could it be turned inside the bathroom. He ingenuously cut a hole through the sheetrock bathroom wall into the adjourning room, and the new tub was slipped into place. The hole was expertly repaired.

Also, when I told him of a problem we were having with a storm door that had been installed by a contractor we had obtained through a big-box company, he recommended a replacement door, and expertly installed it. We've had no problem with that door since.

    I would recommend this company.

    BNH Home Improvement
Work was excellent, met all our needs.  Very professional, on time, clean, and did exactly what they said they would.  Excellent response to issues that came up.    Very friendly, and met all time commitments.  I would highly recommend; in fact I have to numerous friends and neighbors.  My wife and I were so happy with the results, and appreciative of the their hard work that we had a bbq for them at the completion of the project.

    Paul Lopa Designs Inc
We have been working with Paul Lopa and his crew for over a year now, we are almost like family...poor guys.  I feel I can contact Paul or Brian at anytime with any problem or question or just for an opinion. If there was a problem with something, Paul is always right there, but honestly, things have gone pretty well considering the amount of time and the size of the job.  But no matter what, Paul is always prepared to make any changes or address any issue just to make us happy.  It is important to note that the finished product has to meet Paul's standards as well and his standards are pretty high.  When he is not happy with the way something turns out he will literally tear it down from scratch and make sure it is done right, we had some issues with the bathroom and kitchen cabinets that he dealt with that involved more labor and materials and at no time did we see the cost.
Due to the enormous amount of work that had to be done, many decisions had to be made that I could not have made without Paul and his crew, including his plumber and electrician who were just as great to work with. This renovation has been a challenge for all of us. It has been difficult being out of our home for so long but many things had to be addressed, we were just not prepared to renovate our entire house. And again, I have to thank Paul and Brain for literally holding our hands through this. They knew how devastated we were after the storm and have been nothing but supportive and understanding throughout this process.
The actual work that was done by the provider speaks for itself. Words cannot describe how happy we are with the end result. After the work was done on the first and second floor, we decided to finish the entire basement. It added more time to the job but I was happy to have Paul design, and build it for us. In the end, our basement is now my favorite part of the house. Paul is great at utilizing space and making it look beautiful and personalized at the same time. He built custom shelving for storage in what would have been wasted space in the walls and created a (hopefully) somewhat soundproof space for my husband and his drums. He went out of his way to research the best and most economical way to make it as soundproof as possible.
Paul's attention to detail is really refreshing. His crew worked tirelessly on custom radiator covers that have to be seen to be believed. They are perfect for the style of the home and just enhance the look of each room. The same attention to detail was given to all areas of the house and has been consistent since day one. And this has been a LONG job.  I am truly impressed.  At some point we will deal with our backyard, garage and front of our home.  Paul Lopa designs will hopefully be part of that as well.
I feel it is really important to address the cost of a renovation of this magnitude.  A cheaper contractor can always be found but if you want things done to code, done with care and concern and with results that could be on the cover of a magazine, you have to expect to pay a little more and you need to really research a contractor.  Owning an old home for over 13 years we have paid more for some services in the past hoping it would lead to better results and unfortunately it is not always the case.  That's what led me to Angie's List.  Luckily, Paul Lopa Designs were the first contractors we hired through Angie's List and as long as they are in business we will continue to use them and continue to recommend them.  They are worth every penny.

A team of 15-20 workers arrived at 8 a.m. They immediately went to work setting up the scaffolding, removing the old siding and preparing the house for the job. They also removed an old air conditioner from a back window before they they capped it.. When they had questions they called me outside and spoke to me about it and made sure they kept me informed about the job. They worked diligently througout the day and were pretty much done by 7:30 p.m. They removed all the old siding, capping and debris and cleaned up the entire work area. Jeff stopped by during the day to check on how the job was going and told me to please call him if I had any questions or issues. Everyone was very attentive and pleasant. I will recommend Jand B to my friends and family. They are the best!
P.S. Before the siding was done I had casement windows installed in the front of the house. Jand B did NOT do the window installation A couple of weeks later, after a rainstrom, I noticed that the sill on the front window had water pooling on it. I called Jeff and told him about the problem. He said it was probably because the sill was not pitched correctly. He sent one of his workers over to take care of it. When he arrived he told me that he had to remove the capping that Jand B and the window installer had put on the sill so he could fix it. When he removed the capping he found that the wood underneath the capping was totally rotted out. The wood was supposed to be replaced by the window installer. Jeff had his worker remove the rotted wood and replace it with new wood and insulation and recap the sill. Now that the job is done right there is no more pooling.
I want to send Jeff and his workers a big thank you.

    Mr. Handyman of NE Queens

George came at 9:45 am to install an inside door with a new frame, he took out the old door and frame, then installed the new door with frame and new door handle. George did very good work.We were advised that the cost would be USD80 per hour, we thought that we would have two men and it would be done in approx two hours, at a cost of  USD160 plus tax. George worked alone for four hours, it was a job for two men.We figured out at the rate of USD80 per hour that would be USD640 per day for George, I doubt very much if George is receiving that pay, I do not understand why the owner needs to make such a profit. My husband and I feel that it  was way too much to install an inside door.  We picked this company from Angie's List because of the good customer reviews, we are very happy with Georges work, but not sure that we would call this company again because of the price structure.

    Major Homes Corp

The salesman provided me with pictures of the new system, discussed the merits of  a fiberglass door since the entryway gets baked in the sun.  The work included removing the old door system and installing a new system with a special side glass.  I have an oversized door which they replicated.  They also removed and reinstalled my storm door and surrounded the new system with fypon pilasters. The work was completed in one day. They cleaned up the debris and removed  it. The job supervisor had me check the swing of the door and storm door and the smoothness of the lock.

I have been totally satisfied with both the work and the coutrtesy of the workers. My attic is unused and I rarely go up there.  Recently, when I was having some windows replaced I went up and saw there was a lot of debris left from the roofers.  They were spotless about the experior and overlooked the interior.  I e mailed the president about the issue and within days  two workers arrived with shovels and vacuum cleaner to get rid of the debris.  When they left, the attic was clean. I have to commend the service since the original roofing was done two years ago.  Mr.Kersch, President of Major Homes, answered my e mail immediately and could not have been more responsive to my problem.  He did what had to be done to make it right and to be sure I continued to be a satisfied customer.  I am and plan to use Major Homes when I have another project. I have recommended them to a relative who had Major Homes replace his roof and to a neighbor who is currently awaiting the replacement of some windows.

    Fiberama Manufacturing Co
It's now 2/12/11 My front door was removed and taken away without reason and no new door until we figured it out that the door was being taken to the shop so the oval glass can be placed into the new door. It was confirmed that that's what they were doing when we had to call the shop. We agreed that we would get an entire new door and NO. Now at 3:56pm a worker arrived with a temp door for the front door . The back door, I just found out they just reversed the windows ( i have min iblinds in the windows) And now they do not work. The door does not close easily and they stated they have to cut my carpet but not responsible if it does not come out right. So now I have to wait AGAIN for my front door. The worst part is the works attitude. I stated my glass door in the front of my house was upside down, the stamp on the corner of the window the writing is upside down. The worker stated "so who cares".. I care! I have to live here and see this door everyday of my life. AGAIN STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. MARCH 5, 2011 This is NUTS I still can not get my doors in since JANUARY 19th, read my previous review. The workers are here with my front storm and security door. We approved that the security door was acceptable, but the the worker stated that it is NOT going to be installed today. Meanwhile the call I received form DON the day before stated the all doors and problems with my blinds from my back door would be done today. WE called him ans he stated to us YES the doors are going in. We told this to the worker and he laughed and stated NO it's not. We took off from work gave up our weeks ends and still the work is not COMPLETE. What a disaster of a company. INSTEAD OF THE OWNER FIST FIGHTING WITH HIS WIFE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET WHERE THEY LIVE IN STATEN ISLAND OVER THEIR DIVORCE MAYBE HE SHOULD BE WORRYING ABOUT HIS COMPANY. Now I probably have to wait weeks again to get my doors installed. I AM CALLING MY LAWYER!!! Now the worker is telling my husband that he can not fix the internal blinds on my back door, it's a manufacturer problem. THEY ARE ALL LIARS!!!! I contracted with them in November 12, 2010 this is March 5, 2011 ans the work is still NOT done!
