    Vick Teck Construction Corp
Vic does excellent work he makes sure that you're happy with the job he has done. If you're not happy with something he will redo it until you are happy with it. He is extremely knowledgeable about what he does and takes his time to make sure the job is done right, that's why he did so much work at my home. I recommend him to everyone I know who is looking for a contractor.

Our finished basement was destroyed by Hurricaine Sandy. Greg Antis rebuilt our basement by installing new paster board walls and ceilings, new interior doors, new exterior door and windows and new bathroom. The work was done in a timely manner and to our satisfaction. There was a problem with one door coming apart and Greg promptly replaced the door at no charge. Greg had previously renovated our kitchen, two bathrooms, rebuilt our deck, and installed new siding on our house and garage. I highly recommend him.

    Avicenna Construction Inc
He was hired to re-finish our basement after Hurricane Sandy. They were to have the job completed in 6-7 weeks and after 12 weeks it was less than halfway completed.  All the easy jobs were done and the more complicated; tiling, flooring, windows, doors etc, were left to the end of the job. That's when he decided to walk away from the job with 3/4 of the payment and all these things left undone. Needless to say we are upset that it is now going to cost us the amount we already gave him in addition to thousand of dollars more.  We were warned not to use him because he has done this in the past, but, we went against our usually cautious manner and used him because we knew him through someone and decided to have a talk with him about this. He explained it was a misunderstanding with the other client and promised it would not happen with us.  Boy were we wrong in hiring them.  He pulled the same stunt with us.

Work was excellent, met all our needs.  Very professional, on time, clean, and did exactly what they said they would.  Excellent response to issues that came up.    Very friendly, and met all time commitments.  I would highly recommend; in fact I have to numerous friends and neighbors.  My wife and I were so happy with the results, and appreciative of the their hard work that we had a bbq for them at the completion of the project.

    Paul Lopa Designs Inc
We have been working with Paul Lopa and his crew for over a year now, we are almost like family...poor guys.  I feel I can contact Paul or Brian at anytime with any problem or question or just for an opinion. If there was a problem with something, Paul is always right there, but honestly, things have gone pretty well considering the amount of time and the size of the job.  But no matter what, Paul is always prepared to make any changes or address any issue just to make us happy.  It is important to note that the finished product has to meet Paul's standards as well and his standards are pretty high.  When he is not happy with the way something turns out he will literally tear it down from scratch and make sure it is done right, we had some issues with the bathroom and kitchen cabinets that he dealt with that involved more labor and materials and at no time did we see the cost.
Due to the enormous amount of work that had to be done, many decisions had to be made that I could not have made without Paul and his crew, including his plumber and electrician who were just as great to work with. This renovation has been a challenge for all of us. It has been difficult being out of our home for so long but many things had to be addressed, we were just not prepared to renovate our entire house. And again, I have to thank Paul and Brain for literally holding our hands through this. They knew how devastated we were after the storm and have been nothing but supportive and understanding throughout this process.
The actual work that was done by the provider speaks for itself. Words cannot describe how happy we are with the end result. After the work was done on the first and second floor, we decided to finish the entire basement. It added more time to the job but I was happy to have Paul design, and build it for us. In the end, our basement is now my favorite part of the house. Paul is great at utilizing space and making it look beautiful and personalized at the same time. He built custom shelving for storage in what would have been wasted space in the walls and created a (hopefully) somewhat soundproof space for my husband and his drums. He went out of his way to research the best and most economical way to make it as soundproof as possible.
Paul's attention to detail is really refreshing. His crew worked tirelessly on custom radiator covers that have to be seen to be believed. They are perfect for the style of the home and just enhance the look of each room. The same attention to detail was given to all areas of the house and has been consistent since day one. And this has been a LONG job.  I am truly impressed.  At some point we will deal with our backyard, garage and front of our home.  Paul Lopa designs will hopefully be part of that as well.
I feel it is really important to address the cost of a renovation of this magnitude.  A cheaper contractor can always be found but if you want things done to code, done with care and concern and with results that could be on the cover of a magazine, you have to expect to pay a little more and you need to really research a contractor.  Owning an old home for over 13 years we have paid more for some services in the past hoping it would lead to better results and unfortunately it is not always the case.  That's what led me to Angie's List.  Luckily, Paul Lopa Designs were the first contractors we hired through Angie's List and as long as they are in business we will continue to use them and continue to recommend them.  They are worth every penny.

    Tank Masters Environmental Inc.
They pulled the tank out, they covered it, and left it in the back yard.
They left the hole open in the back yard.
That was all the work they did.
The company wants another $8,000.00 for that work.  I am now in litigation.

    Homes & Beyond Inc

It was devine intervention that days after the storm the president of Homes and Beyond was given the wrong address to provide an estimate for a basement remediatioon job in my Rockaway neighborhood. When he knocked on my door, we struck up a conversation. I showed him my basement. He was reluctant to take a downpayment from me because I had never met him before, had no references for him, and he didn't want to spook me. Nevertheless, I had a good feeling. I gave him a deposit which he said he would not cash until I had checked out a few references. I went to the homes where he was in the process of doing work, made a few calls, and liked what I heard. He did an excellent job on the basement gutting and remediation. I then hired him to do the outdoor repairs from falling trees and to do the one floor (including new base molding, sheetrock, insulation and painting) inside my house that had water damage. He is currently in the process of renovating my basement, which includes walls (framing, sheetrocking and some cement skim-coating) floor, ceiling, insulation, etc. All of his workers must be given some kind of orientation because they are all super considerate, very neat, etc. I have no complaints and would certainly recommend Homes and Beyond.

Back in September 2012, before the storm hit, our renovation was going very well.  Everything was on schedule and we were not only happy with the work that was being done at the house but the ease of the process.  This remodel was something we had wanted to tackle for the last ten years, but it has been extremely difficult to find someone that we could not only trust but who was truly willing to work with the client. From day one, both Paul and Brian were enthusiastic about our job, and 6 or so months later, the enthusiasm is remarkably still there.  So much time has passed and we have had a couple of surprises, but Paul continues to be hands on and puts all his effort into keeping the level of professionalism and creativity that he showed as far back as June 2012.  Paul came up with designs that we had never thought of and that really worked for us.  He has also been able to capture our tastes and preferences and designs with the style of the house in mind.  So many previous contractors had visions that took away from the original charm of our home, where Paul has really embraced it.  We will forever be grateful for his contracting/design skills as well as his patience and understanding throughout this entire process.
As a result of the storm, weeks worth of work was destroyed.  Our newly sheetrocked and leveled basement was under almost 12 feet of water.  Over a foot of water destroyed our first floor including some work that had already been completed in the kitchen and bathroom.  We were devasted as was the rest of our community.  It took weeks before heat and power were restored but with the help of Paul Lopa Designs we had assistance and support that most of our neighbors were searching for.  Not only did Paul and Brian contact and keep in touch with us over the first couple of days after the storm, but they PERSONALLY assisted with the cleanup.  I could not have asked for a better contractor.  They called on an almost daily basis and with their help we were well on our way to rebuilding long before most of our neighbors who were knee deep in dealing with trying to find a contractor in one of the most desperate times in their lives.  And knowing what they were going through, I felt even more grateful for having Paul Lopa Designs working for us.
Currently, our basement is fully sheetrocked...again, our kitchen cabinets are being installed and the bathroom is fully tiled. The level of work is truly unbelievable.  It is impeccable.  The cabinets and tiles are beautiful and complement the house in a way I could never have imagined. They have fully repaired and skimmed our original plaster walls (and ceilings!) and the only word I can use to describe them is "perfect".  We will soon have floors and doors and molding that Paul so graciously assisted in choosing.  He has a great eye and is extremely helpful when there are so many decisions to be made.  His workers are skilled and courteous and he is always just a phone call away.  If Paul does not get back to me, Brian will call to follow up.  Not only are they professional but they are down to earth and very approachable which is actually more important to us.  We do not want to feel like a burden, we want to feel a part of the process.  Our home is very important to us and I get the feeling that Paul and his team get that.  He is also extremely knowledgeable in terms of current products that are on the market.  I have personally tried to challenge Paul's choices and time and time again they are supported, by not only friends and family but other contractors and retailers.  I recently visited a floor dealer to look at some floor samples that Paul had recommended and the dealer confirmed, yet again, that the contractor made an excellent choice.  Even something as simple as choosing paint colors, which has always been extremely painful for me, was a breeze in Paul's office where not only did his assist me but I was able to look at samples of the products used in my remodel to help me with the choices as well.
We went from renovating a kitchen, a bath and half of a basement to renovating our entire home.  We were completely overwhelmed.  Now we are finally feeling that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.  We still have a couple of months before our home is complete but I know that we have made the right choice and we will be extremely happy with the end result.  I could go on and on but I will save the best for last.
    To be continued....

Seemed like a nice guy. Took $200 as payment to purchase materials for job that he would charge $800. Missed appointments, had cut himself. Did some work (poor job) and did not return. Had to hire someone else to redo his work and complete job.
