    JCC Rochester

I cant express enough my satisfaction with the JCCs trainers, prices, and facility. It offers an array of services that meet my every need. Moreover, their customer service is above par, with super friendly, positive people that make you happy to be there.

    Planet Fitness Irondequoit
I like the planet fitness model and have been very happy with their gyms all around the country. The Irondequoit branch is a new location and is very large and laid out nice. The staff is nice and not overly in your face about selling you products you don't want. There is a lot of parking here and the hours are good, I wish they were open 24/7 but you get what you pay for at $10 a month. There is always a piece of equipment here or there that is broken but that's normal for a gym this large with so many members. I tell people all the time to join for the convince, nobody bothers you here and there is enough equipment to give you a variety of workout options.

    PARK AVENUE BIKE SHOP
I want to express that for all three visits to the bike shop, beginning last August, I was met with the same "sales approach" - the Sales Reps helped me with purchasing rather than trying to sell to me. They listened to me describe my purpose for a bike - mostly exercise 2 to 3 times a week, on paved roads. They showed me their recommendations at various price points and then they let me ask questions, talk it out, and decide.
This trip to Park Ave Bike was to buy the accessories. Helmet, riding pants, gloves, pouch, repair items, and water bottle.
Again, I was shown options at various price points and allowed to make my own decision. In fact, the sales rep suggested I would probably only need the lower priced helmet and she led me to the clearance rack.
I am comfortable with and like the items I purchased. It is comforting to know that the people at Park Ave Bike Shop are not out to maximize sales at my the expense of my wallet. They have gained a "lifetime customer".

    Midtown Athletic Club Rochester
I have been a member for 3 + years. I believe this is the best health club in Rochester. It costs more, but I have always felt that I get my money's worth at Midtown. The facilities are beautiful and always clean. The staff is always helpful and friendly.

    Wellbeing
I've been working with a trainer one-on-one for over a year. I am so much stronger than I was when I started last April (2012.)
They have a number of well-educated trainers so that you can find a good fit and a variety of group classes: yoga, pilates, barre. bootcamp...
Everyone I have encountered there has been very kind and professional. They have an online registration system, which makes setting appointments, signing up for classes and paying easy.
Each year, they also host a variety of free-with-donation classes for various charities in our community such as the battered women's shelter or Teens Living with Cancer.

    Midtown Athletic Club Rochester
It's been very good but it's expensive. They have a good equipment, they got a nice pool and got good facilities. They got nice cafe, good weighing and exercising equipment, they got Jacuzzi, there's kiddie pools outside, good tennis programs and tennis courts for outdoor and indoor.

    Midtown Athletic Club Rochester
The locker rooms and facilities are clean and lovely. Classes are too overcrowded. If not into the social scene look elsewhere, especially if you're a woman. Often feels more like a day care facility than a great athletic center. They should be better than they are, they have the potential to be great but they miss. Help should be plentiful in the workout areas. More classes, less overcrowding. And give us some AIR!!!!

    Penfield Fitness
First of all, the time of the class was posted incorrectly. It started 1/2 hour earlier than was listed. Someone called me about an hour before the first class began, but at the time I was at work and did not get the message until it was too late, so showed up at the class when it was almost over. The equipment was not wiped down after use, and this seemed to be normal practice. When I told a patron who was waiting for the machine I was using to wait until I wiped it down, she told me not to bother, nobody does that. That is what I observed every time I attended the class. The instructors seemed unorganized and inexperienced.

    YMCA of Greater Rochester
They've got swimming and all kinds of machines like cardio and strength machines. They have what they call "A Ready Fit Circuit" with different types of machines that target different parts of your body. They've also got a lot of classes and you can get a personal trainer, but it's an additional fee. I actually joined on January 2nd, so they omitted the joining fee and I didn't have to pay the extra $50. They open typically at 5:30 in the morning, but I think they close at around 9:00 or 10:00. At this YMCA they have 15,000 members and when I went there yesterday it was absolutely packed, so there's a lot of people there and it's very clean. It's very family friendly and they have a wide range of people from little kids to elderly folks. They also have a daycare, but I'm not sure if it costs extra. They told me when I start using the machines if I have any questions at all just grab someone who's there and they'll help me. They talked to me about the billing and I gave them my credit card number and they'll just go in and pull it out.

    Rochester Athletic Club
We downloaded a day pass and were contacted by someone at the gym to set up an appointment. We went in and were given a tour of the gym. It is a decent size, not too big or small. We weren't allowed to use our pass, however, until we talked about signing up for a membership. They only offer 2 year memberships. We decided to join. So far, it has been a positive experience. There's rarely a wait for the cardio machines, but sometimes the weight machines get busy. They like to sell their personal training packages and they're always asking if you have anyone else you'd like to recommend to join. The hard sells can get annoying at times. Overall, it's a good gym.
