    Universal Window Co
Steve arrived on the hottest day of the year and was yet most pleasant and hard working in the services he provided. He paid attention to all details of the process to ensure the job was done properly. He took the time to listen and answer questions. Upon completion he asked me to try the doors to make sure I was satisfied with the installation. He was most diligent, and swept the job site clean before leaving. It is too soon to rate the quality of the doors since they have just been installed. They look new and nice at the moment, but the duration of the product will determine its true value. Steve assured if I encountered any concerns or problems with the job, I should call.

    Bill White Roofing & Waterproofing
I purchased from Angies List the $69 skylight sealing and roof inspection. Mr. White came with a worker and an associate, I'm not sure exactly. After the worker was on my roof for less than an hour. Mr White and partner went up to inspect the roof, I showed them  damage in my kitchen and under my windows from what seemed to be water. They really didn't seem to know where the damage it was coming from although they noticed that my windows in the rear of my home were not sealed. At first they said the roof needed repaired and sealed, they quoted me a price of $4,000.00. When they saw that I was reluctant, they were persistent and were eager to do the job that day, that they had the availability  and said they would repair the roof and seal it for $3,200.00.
I said I wanted to shop it around but they were insistent and offered to seal the windows as well. So I agreed. I don't know what kind of repair they were doing however the worker barely made a noise. I think he just tared around the seams and the chimney. I then looked on AngiesList at the deals and found I deal for $1,349.00 which stated a "Flat Roof Revitalization" from Vandelay Contracting. This seemed to be exactly what I was getting and I confronted Mr. White, he said that the were some cheap contractors on Angies List and that he would be doing a quality job and that he was also going to seal my windows. He insisted I show him the deal which I printed out and showed him. I thought another $1,850.00 just to seal my windows and who was to say I was getting a quality job or this other contractor was not quality. I felt that very little was being done for what I was paying and I really needed to cut my losses at that point and said that I would pay him for what he had done and not to proceed any further. Mr White said he had done half the job already yet they had only maybe sealed the seams of my roof and chimney. It hadn't even been coated.  After going back and forth with him and his associate about what really needed to be done and what he had really accomplished for the price, I said fine I'll pay you $1,600.00. I just wanted them out of my home, but he insisted on finishing the job and coating the roof for the $1,600.00. A second truck came with the coating material and his worker went onto the roof and again I barely heard anything. He finished and I paid. I figured the coating needed time to dry so I waited before looking at the job. When I went up to the roof, it was not coat, again just the seams and the chimney were coated. I would never use this contractor again nor recommend him to anyone. They are high priced, dishonest and high pressure.

    Charles Stewart Roofing
Mr Charles was friendly and arrived at my home as planned. He got his crew to start working right away, it took several hours to complete. Last September I had the the roof and skylight replaced by another non Angie list contractor and I thought my worries were over but, leaking water came in near the skylight and water was leaking behind the old gutter, leaving a nice layer of ice on the entire rear of my house. I paid 6 grand for that work. So far I haven't has any issues with the work done by Mr Charles employees and I'll likely use him again. My only con, I wasn't agog with the cost, but I needed it done and agreed. Note; I didn't get any other estimates.

Mik was very responsive and professional. He missed a small spot in our skylight but came back the day after we alerted him of this to make sure the job was complete. Would call Mik again for sure.

    Gotham Builders of New York
This company is a well-oiled machine. From my first dealings with them all the wAy through to the finished product was a dream transaction. All communication through Gino, the ultra-professional salesman was immediate, courteous, and direct. Everything about this transaction was very trust-inspiring! Gino told me that the job would be done on a certain day, and the installer, Joe and his trusty assistant showed up exactly on the day! Once again, this man was not only a true professional who installed the windows to perfection, but also very affable and trustworthy as well! When they left, the place was as clean as they had found it. This was much appreciated!! Finally, about an hour after the job was done, Gino once again called to check on things. This is, to date, THE BEST contracting experience I have encountered in this city!!! Highly-recommend!!!!!

Quality Window Service & Repair Inc
I dealt with Jenny in the office, and Robert, who installed the new window and replaced the glass panes.  Jenny was very pleasant to deal with in setting up the appointments, first to have Robert come and give me an estimate, and later for the installation.  Robert was punctual and very personable.  In the past I've had various kinds of home improvements, and on occasion, people have never bothered to show up, or were very late with no explanation, so I was pleasantly surprised that when I was told 12:00, he actually showed up at 12:00.  He took off  the existing molding around the window without cracking it, installed the new window, caulked around it and replaced the molding.  My kitchen is small, and he was very careful when taking the old window out and installing the new one so as to not bang into my cabinets or refrigerator.  He cleaned up afterward, and even cleaned the new window and the other 2 he worked on with Windex and paper towels.  When I asked Robert if he could do me a favor and take out the glass pane from my storm door because I was having trouble removing it in order to put a screen in, he graciously took care of it. A small thing for him maybe, but a big help for me.  In short, he did a great job and I plan to have him repair a number of screens in the near future.

They came out to fix window that wouldn’t open. He didn’t have the parts on him so he left. He said he would call me the next day around noon to tell me how much it was going to be and if they had to order the parts. I haven’t heard back from them and I’ve called them twice but, they guy will not call me back.

Tri-State provides the highest quality products in its class for a hard to beat price, which included installation. I spent much time researching various providers offering comparable products, including Pella and Andersen -- which quoted prices 2-3 times higher for double pane products. Tri-State was highly responsive to my initial inquiry, provided a straight forward professional, no hard sell estimate and quote. The installation team was top notch and professional, arrived on-time, and completed work in two days. Tri-State has a well deserved reputation for service excellence, and that's what I got. I would highly recommend them to anyone contemplating window and door replacement.

Crystal Window & Door Systwms LTD
The windows were installed as part of a remodel and were consequently installed by a third party contractor. After two months we had a problem with one of the windows, which was subsequently corrected by the contractor. In MARCH 2012, we had a problem with another window. After multiple attempts to contact Crystal repair department , leaving detailed messages each time, we had to have the original contractor call the Crystal salesman to get someone to contact us. In APRIL 2012, we had a problem with  yet another window. We once again left multiple messages and once again had to have our contractor intercede on our behalf. In DECEMBER 2013 had problems with  yet a fourth window. I have been contacting Crystal Windows since the beginning of December & have left numerous messages. I again called today but was unable to leave a message because the mailbox was full !! I am so frustrated with this company, I would have all the windows replaced again if I could afford it.
Each time we have had a window fixed, it has been for a different problem. The first time it was a window sash, the second window had the window shoe fall out, whatever that means, the third time it was a "DH Coil Balance" issue , and this time the Lift Plate came right off in our hands. I should add that my husband & I are over 60, so you can understand that the windows are not being misused or abused.
Crystal Windows intimates that they are "award winning" and they most certainly are. However it appears that the last award they won was in 2005. I don't know what happened since then but now the only awards  I would give them is an award for the WORST WINDOWS EVER, for the WORST SERVICE and for the LEAST RESPONSIVE SERVICE STAFF.

After writing this review, and sending an emal to Crystal Windows, I was contacted by a nice polite & professional young man in the Customer Service Dept. He apologized for the delay & advised that Crystal was short staffed but were now hiring new people to assist with the back log. He also advised that our windows were past the 1 year manufacturers warranty period  and I would need to pay a service charge of $100 per hour, plus tax.  Alternatively we could remove the window and bring it to their factory where they would fix it for free. Considering the outside temps are running between 0 and 20 *F, that's not an option until spring. Looks like we will need to invest in some good vinyl glue & fix it ourselves. If someone had just called us back after our first message, I probably wouldn't even have left this review.

LATEST UPDATE - 4/12/2014. First really nice day in Queens, NY. Went to open the windows nice & wide, but the window lock on the bedroom window will not stay unlocked. This lock allows you to open the window about 3 inches, but you need to push it in (unlock) if you want the window opened more than that. Now, if I want to let the "sun shine in" I need to tape the darn thing down. I REALLY REALLY HATE THESE WINDOWS>>>
