    Remodeling Concepts
Working with Remodeling Concepts was a continual struggle. The owner failed to manage the project, rarely followed through on his promises and actually disappeared for a period of time. The project was scheduled for 5-6 weeks but remained incomplete when we terminated the contract after six months. Material parts of the work had to be redone, sometimes repeatedly. Also, Remodeling Concepts at times installed products different and less expensive from those specified in the contract. Perhaps worst, we soon came to feel that we could not trust the owner's statements and promises with respect to performance or quality.

John fixed a door knob I installed myself on a door with a pre-existing hole for an old door knob.  The door knob wasn't turning properly, the strike plate wasn't aligned properly and the hole was too big for the door knob.  John fixed everything in like 30 minutes, was professional and courteous.  Will be calling him again for future projects.

    Just Exteriors Plus
When my house was built, the builder did not use any house wrap or roofing felt under the aluminum siding.  The builder also used a large, inexpensive, all-wood bow window  in the living room and inexpensive exterior doors.   Over the years, all this required constant maintenance, and the lack of a water barrier under the siding resulted in some hidden water damage. I decided it was time to correct all these problems.  Several people I work with recommended Just Exteriors and I found good reviews here on Angie's List.  My initial thought was to replace the aluminum siding with vinyl, but after meeting with Just Exteriors, I became interested in the Apex fiberglass siding they install.  Fiberglass siding was something I was not at all familiar with. Just Exteriors took us to see another house they had done with fiberglass siding.   It was very impressive, and we decided to go with the fiberglass rather than vinyl.  Fiberglass costs more, but it looks a lot more like real wood.  Unlike vinyl and aluminum, it doesn't expand or contract with temperature, so it doesn't need overlapped expansion joints or J-channel at the ends of the sections.  This adds to the effect of it being real wood siding.   The Apex siding also has a unique method of dealing with any water that might penetrate the joints of the siding and channeling it away from the house.  This includes installing house wrap over the sheathing and making water tight joints around the doors,  windows and along the seams between the sections of house wrap. The Just Exteriors crew was great.  They arrived promptly each morning and were very friendly and easy to work with. As the crew removed the old siding, they found some water damage to the sheathing and also the header over the garage door.   They removed the damaged material and did an excellent job of making repairs. My arrangement with Just Exteriors was that I would purchase the doors and window unit that I wanted separately and have them delivered in time for Just Exteriors to install them.  I had Just Exteriors do the work of replacing the front door and bow window, but I decided that I wanted to replace the other exterior doors myself, since this was something I had the skills to do.  I had no trouble working with the Just Exteriors crew in this fashion.  They let me know when they wanted to work on each section of the house so I could complete my part of the work in time. Along the way, Bruce Peter, the owner, came by several times to check on progress and make sure I was happy with how things were going.  He also provided me with his cell phone number so I could call any time in case something came up. I was very impressed with the work the Just Exteriors crew did.  Fiberglass siding takes longer to install because it requires more precision work.  Since there is no J-channel or overlapped joints which help to hide sloppy measurements and cuts, every piece of siding must be cut exactly to length.   It requires real craftsmanship, and the crew delivered on this.  The joints at the corners and in between sections of siding are almost invisible. To wrap things up, I have to say that I am very picky about details.  In some places, I wanted things done a certain way, even though there were other ways it could have been done.  I tried to tell the crew exactly what I wanted ahead of time, but a few times I forgot or didn't think of it in advance.   But they were extremely good about making things the way I wanted them, even if it meant un-doing something and doing it over.   They really followed through on Bruce's philosophy that the customer is always right. I'm really pleased with the way everything turned out.  Between the siding and the new roof (which Just Exteriors also did), the house looks better than new.

    John J Contracting
John J. Contracting did absolutely beautiful, excellent, detail-oriented work, consistently, and with a positive nature that immediately put us at ease. John is a master craftsman and at every step was committed to giving us exactly what we wanted despite the challenges served up by our 19th century Victorian.
His attention to detail, creative thinking, knowledgeable input, and masterful execution made him an absolute joy to work with. He is unwaveringly devoted to his craft, and to the honor found in excellence. He is an artist at what he does.
We have two small children and so our concerns about demolition/construction dust and debris were great. John was meticulous about containing any dust he was creating and leaving his workspace clear of dust, nails, etc. at the end of each day. He was an incredibly responsible and honorable worker, and he always had respect for the fact that his work place was our home.
John carried us through the gut-renovation of our kitchen, the re-framing of doors, custom tile-work, the installation of a new pocket door and a number of other projects. His work was consistently excellent. We thanked him at the end of each day, and he always thanked us for our commitment to him and to his work. I would recommend him enthusiastically, and without reservation.
