    Sears Home Services

This was a case of classic bad service.  I purchased a stove, dishwasher and a refrigerator.  The stove went out almost immediately.  they sent a repairman TWO WEEKS later.  I found out that his job was to verify that I had a problem.  He informed me that I needed a part but that he doesn't carry parts on his truck.  He said that he would order the part which would be delivered to me and that I should call to schedule an appointment.  The part arrived approximately 10 days later.  I called and was told that the earliest they could come service was three weeks later.  it took almost two months from the time of my call to basic repair.

The tale of the refrigerator made the stove service seem speedy.  I purchased all of the appliances in all the appliances in September 2014 and the week before thanksgiving the freezer portion of the refrigerator gave out (luckily I didn't throw away my old fridge).  The same process took place two weeks to send someone out to diagnose the problem two weeks to get the part four weeks for someone to come out to install the part (installer informed me that it was the wrong part) approixamtely 3 weeks to get the right part.  And then the real whammy they changed their policy and only provided service to my area twice a month on Thursdays when my wife and I are at work.  Given our work schedules and their new policy it took almost 10 weeks before we could have the repairs made.  The did give us a credit to purchase a small freezer and a food alloance for spoilage.  However total time from start to finish was approximately five and a half months!!!

Calling customer service was especially frustrating.  On a positive note I will say that he of the men sent to perform the service was professional and sympathetic to my frustrations.

The mattress turned out to be very defective.  The box spring creaks and makes all kinds of noises and thre is a big dip in the mattress.  It is like falling in a cavern.  I called Sleepy's and they said that they would have an independent mattress person come out.  She came out early Sunday morning on 9-19-13.  She said that the box spring definitely is defective and measured the mattress and took pictures of it.  She also stated that the mattress was all discolored on half of it and asked if I was aware of it.  I told her that the matress was covered by the mattress pad by the drivers that delivered it.  She said that she would send in her report and the store would contact me.
The store contacted me and said that the box spring definitely is defective.  They said that they would replace this but it was a $100 charge to deliver a new one.  I said why should I pay for something that was defective.  He said this is how it works.  But he said since the mattress is somewhat defective they can't replace it at this time.  My Beauty Rest Recharge mattress according to the manufacturer must have  a dip of at least 1 1/2inches and mine is 1 1/8inches.  He suggested that I wait a few months and then it might get deeper. Then, they might be able to get the manufacturer to replace it and then I would only have to pay one delivery charge of $100 rather than paying $200 for two different deliveries.
I contacted both Sleepy's and Beauty Rest and told them that I can't sleep on this mattress -my back is killing me.  Basically it's tough luck - there is nothing we can do.  They got my $1300 and I am stuck with it.
I went to small claims court in Wappingers on 1-02-14- this was a day of heavy snow.  I was there and a manager of Sleepy's was there also. When the judge was ready to start, this manager said that his legal team was not there.  The judge said that he can wait a little while since the weather is not good.  The manager said that it is Sleepy's policy to adjourn the first hearing and then they would reschedule it for another date for their legal team to be at the trial.  I was asked if I had a problem with this.  I said I drove through all of this snow for over 20 miles and they knew they weren't coming.  I said this is not fair but the judge said that they are entitled to do this . The judge also mentioned that I might want to hire an attorney for the next trial date.  I told him that I cannot afford to spend more on this and would represent myself.
Next trial date was 2-06-14- Went to court again.  This time there was another manager from Sleepy's.  He didn't have his legal team with him.  He told the judge that he wasn't told that this was a trial and came with a letter from Sleepy's which said that he was not authorized to appear before the judge in trial and must ask for another adjournment date and Sleepy's will decide on who will appear the next time.
After much deliberation on the part of the judge and on his consulting with other legals, he awarded me a judgement.
He said to wait a few weeks before filing it just in case Sleepy's wanted to try to work something out.
On 2-14-14, I received a call from a Sleepy's lady .  She was very nasty and threatening.  She said that there is no way Sleepy's would pay me the judgement.   She was extremely nasty and unprofessional.  I told her that I need a decent mattress to sleep on.  I said that I have had 8 cancer surgeries and am not working anymore.  I am 68 years old and I need to get a decent nights sleep.  I need a good mattress.  Well, she finally said that she would have someone contact me and set up an appointment with a Sleepy store and see if they could get me another mattress.
Well, on 2-20-14, I received a call from Sleepy's at 3:35 and the lady was pleasant and said that her manager is there now and can I come right now.  I told her that I just got back from spending most of the day at the heart center with someone and I can't get there at this moment.  I said that I could make it anytime the following week as I would be gone for the weekend and she said that she would tell her supervisor and would get right back to me.  As of now , three weeks and mounting, I have never heard back from her or them.  In the meantime, I have traveled to the County Court House and Filed the Judgement.
I can't believe how a company this large would treat someone this horribly.
I and a few others all agree that this mattress and boxspring was a used unit that someone must have returned previously.  It was delivered defective and Sleepy's claims they would never do this.  But why is it in such bad condition  and faded and discolored.  Guess they are happy knowing that they pulled one over on a ill and elderly person.
I am stuck sleeping on my sofa as I cannot sleep on this .  And I saved and paid for this nightmare.
This was delivered 6-30-13 and as of 3-13-14 still no action.

    Handyman Andy
We asked Andy to perform a series of small and not so small jobs in and around our house.  We can say without hesitation he is a fine European craftsman.  He built a detailed mantle above our fireplace and copied exactly the design of a mantle we showed him.  Andy also built a mirrored bedside night table to our specifications.  He built a shed for tools that is more work of art than tool shed.  He painted the entire outside of our house but not before repairing all the wood under the soffits.  He has done plumbing, enclosed a crawl space and assorted other odd jobs.  We are confident he can build a house from the foundation up and most of the furniture in it.  He is careful and neat and very reasonably priced.
