    Jimmy The Handyman
From the first phone call he showed up on time for the estimate. The day he started the job he was on time. Put tarps where needed to keep other areas clean. The work was performed perfectly and quickly. We recommend them to all our friends and family. Jim was an absolute pleasure to work with.

    Alure Home Improvements Inc
Priced exorbitantly and insidiously high. Comparing work done with other reviewers and competitors, - absolutely unwarranted. First, awful experience with designer Mike who rescheduled on me 3 times only to be a complete NO-SHOW and NO-CALL on the scheduled day. Unprofessionalism and poor reflection of the company to the highest degree. Gave them another chance with another designer Bob, because I truly wanted to work with Alure. He did no better. He was informed upfront what the max budget was, but completely ignored it and continued to mislead us along. We even DOUBLED our initial max budget to work things out, but his debility to come to an agreement and disrespect of the budget was a complete waste our time! He should have stated up front if he wouldn't be able to work with the budget as not to waste everyone's time. I would never recommend such an unprofessional and unconscionably priced company like this. Most of the reviewers here seemed to share the same negative experience regarding this. Absolutely unhappy.

Sandy happened a couple weeks later. Where they excavated the dirt had settled, the chimney was not built properly - add on, so the chimney also settled and split. They came back and joist the chimney and fixed that crack free of charge!

    Carl Bongiorno & Sons, Inc
From the first contact to the last Carl is a man of his word focused upon your satisfaction with the quality and durability of the work. The crews arrive on time, and are focused upon their work and providing you with a quality product. They are willing to change design mid job if you are unhappy with the look. Carl spends a lot of time making sure the products you choose really are the ones you want, going as far as visiting the stone yard with you to ensure you are able to touch and see all of your options. The willingness to make slight changes and remove and reinstall stone that just didn't look right was awesome, he never made you feel awkward about anything. He truly takes a great deal of pride in turning out a product that is breathtaking and built to last, going above code in several instances to get better results. At the end of many weeks worth of work, with a crew of guys that were professional at all times, I don't see how we could have asked for a more gorgeous finished product. Carl will not be the lowest bid you will get, but his finished product truly embodies the old saying "good work isn't cheap, and cheap work isn't good," I'm happy we found a true craftsman.

    Grand Improvements & Construction
I couldn't be happier with the work done.   This is the second project I've used Grand improvements for.  Gary previously remodeled my master bathroom about 6 months ago.  For this project, starting with an unfinished basement, Gary put in a full bath, and finished a portion of the basement to the point where it matched the rest of the house.  Gary put in a plank tile floor, crown molding, a riser for a theatre setup as well as many other details.  Gary is very professional, gets the work done, and always comes up with ideas to make the project come out the best it possibly can.  He pays attention to details and makes sure everything is finished with the highest level of craftsmanship.  He and his assistant do the work primarily, but he has good contacts that he brings in for certain phases of the job such as electric and paint.  I've taken care of all the projects I plan to do at my house, but if I had anything else that I needed taken care of I certainly would hire Gary again.

I had my cement stoop widened and covered with paving stones but I was left with, among many other things, a stoop with a bottom step that was almost 4 inches out of code and no footing or rebar to hold the addition to the stoop.  The stoop was too dangerous to use and I wanted it fixed as soon as possible.
I found Ed and General Brick Designs on Angie's List.  He is a master mason and served as an engineer in the Army Corp of Engineers.  Ed saw the problems right away and found a big problem that I was not aware of.  When the extension was added to the stoop I was told that a footing was to be put in.  Ed brought a piece of equipment that can see through the stones to the original stoop.  There was no footing, only an inch or two of what looked like troweled cement and no rebar.  This could potentially crack  and fail as the ground heaved from freezing and cold.  He dug out below and showed me the pieces of cement that should  have been a footing. He then underpinned the stoop with a 10 inch footing.
Ed then gave much thought to the grading of the walkway because there was slope up to the stoop and also to the lawn.  He crowned it perfectly with a gentle rise up to the stoop from the side and from the lawn.  While this was being done, he would walk back and forth from the street to make sure that this looked right from the street as well.
Ed explained  everything he was going to do and consulted us each time there was a question or a choice to be made.  He removed the blacktop, and installed a beautiful walkway of dark and light gray pavers in a herring bone pattern and angled it to meet existing blacktop.  All of this work came with a ten year guarantee.
I cannot begin to say enough good things about Ed.  He made a spot for me in his schedule and the job was done in less than a week of my call.   As well as being a truly nice guy, Ed's work ethics are the highest.  He loves what he does and it shows.  He's passionate about doing a job that he himself can be proud of as well as the client.  His men have been with him many years.  They work quietly and consistently, and they are the only ones that I can remember that did not stop and take out their cell phones as soon as the boss turned around.  The cleanup was impeccable?  and Ed, Ed should be cloned!!!

    Selective Sculptures
They helped move some heavy furniture without complaining. They leveled the floor with concrete. They took off the baseboard molding without damaging the walls, and put it back when they were done. Some of the molding had to be replaced, and they cut and trimmed and replaced what was necessary. (We bought it.)  Most important, they laid the porcelain tiles evenly, put down the grout and sealed it. The company fabricated stone saddles to connect the living room with the hall and the dining room with the kitchen and installed them. They cleaned up after themselves and did not seem to waste any time. We are extremely pleased with the way it looks-- we thinks it's gorgeous!

Bruce Distler was a most detailed oriented contracter I've ever dealt with. He called when he promised he would call. The basement entrance involved a lot of cement work that was done by his sub-contracters Anthony and Dominic who were so polite, neat and did an excellent job with the cement work. When they were finished, they cleaned up very well and even raked and added top soil in some of the areas affected by the cement truck. Then they re-seeded all the areas affected. I can't say enough about these guys. The entire project exceeded all my expectations. Thank you Bruce. I will most likely be calling you for all my future home improvement needs.

All of the excavating and cement work was subcontracted to a young team called A & D Dynamics. The team consisted of Dominic Anthony , Andrew and "smiling Mike."who did excellent work in the most uncomfortable hot working conditions. They were very neat and cleaned up after themselves. The stairs and landing were done in a very timely manner, and they raked the lawn and added top soil and reseeded everything that needed reseeding. Installing the door itself was another mat

ter. The door we were instructed to buy did not fit the opening and we had to order a custom door at additional expense. However, after the door arrived it was installed within a few days and the job was completed today. I am overall very pleased with the work, and Bruce is very easy to deal with. I would definitely use his services again in the future.
