    JBL HOME IMPROVEMENTS INC
It couldn't have gone better. Everyone who works for Dave Kaplan (JBL Home Improvements) is excellent at their job, very amenable and easy to communicate with. This seems to start from the top down. Besides knowing how to get the job done, Dave is very easy to deal with. He never says no though he will often present a better idea. I never had to wait for him or his crew to arrive. They were also all very neat and careful.

    ISLANDER HOME IMPROVEMENTS INC
They're a small group, but the final work was amazing. They are very nice and diligent with everything they do. I loved the final product. Pat G is a really nice guy, although he was not able to get up the 2nd floor stairs to the room he had his people go up and do the quoting and the work. All great work, problem solvers, and didn't nickel dime us. Only critique might be they over promised a little with timing and always went a little longer than promised, but frankly it wasn't long process overall. He should just under promise a little more often. They worked hard and were craftsman (and women, i liked that too). Only other issue was draping on painting and tile grinding got a little messy, but they cleaned it up. OVERALL: Fantastic work, nice people, fair pricing, i highly recommend them.

    BQ Electric Inc
BQ Electric was prompt and worked hard to diagnose a very difficult problem. Bill and his team were very professional. I was not charged for some of the hours of the initial diagnosis. Brian and Bill explained all the work clearly. The BQ Electric team cleaned up after their work and were considerate.

    JBL HOME IMPROVEMENTS INC
I found Dave here on angies list and did the usual reference checking and house visits of his past work. Each client had only great things to say which was very reassuring considering the amount of money and trust that is involved in the process. Dave and his crew were great, each day showing up around 7am to start work and always cleaning up each day. His subs did great work and had great explanations for why they did things the way they did for my education. Dave was always there to manage his subs and ensure that things were done to what he prefers and was always in contact with me to make sure that that particular work was done to my satisfaction. This type of remodeling always has things that come up for extra work and cost and dave was great about adjustments and pricing. He was always fair and always did what was necessary and did not try to sell us more. He treated this job as if it was his own basement. In the end, the job was more than what he initially quoted but again, with permits, inspections, and unforeseen work that is required during renovations it was a great outcome that you can see in my pictures. Please be aware that basement finishing requires that the owner do maintenance to prepare for the living space. This includes foundation repairs, water management (if there are leaks, fix them, heavy rains that causes rain to come in, window well water management with french drains etc) that is required by you to understand how your house behaves. You should fully understand and resolve these issues before you start this journey. Thankfully i did such a thing, and cannot be more happy and feel safe that water penetration will not happen once dave came and finished. Additionally, closing the furnace area into a now room requires that you provide adequate ventilation for it to burn. Dave assisted me in the end with a vent on the wall to allow for proper intake as you can see from the pictures. I cannot stress enough that people need to be educated on how basements are done and what can and cannot be done for yours. Dave was a great partner in this process and I cannot recommend him and his team more so for your next project. I will always be using him in the future and I hope that anyone reading this will do so as well.

    Fielack Electric Corp
When my wife and I bought a house in April of 2018, we discovered that it had a number of wiring problems, with multiple code violations that were missed by our inspector. The team from Fielack electric, led by David, explained all the issues to us in a very clear and understandable way, and gave us a good understanding of which issues needed to be fixed immediately (because they were potential fire hazards), and which could wait a little longer, since our finances were kind of tight after buying the house. They were also very honest in explaining that even though some things could be done in a cheaper way, they would still be in violation of codes, and could still cause problems in the long run. Compared to the other electricians I had worked with in the past, I felt that even when Fielack wasn't the cheapest option (although more often than not, they were), they were the most detail-oriented, and the most invested in not just getting the job done, but getting it done in the best possible way. Over the following several months, David and the other electricians did all the rewiring that was necessary, and even though their new wiring went all over the house, they were able to route everything so invisibly, as to only need one small wall area in front of the bathroom where a square in the wall had to be cut out (and replaced). All other access points were done in places covered by cabinets, stove, etc. They worked efficiently, made sure that everything was cleaned up after the job was done, and even kept an eye on our two kittens, making sure to keep doors closed when needed to prevent the kittens from sneaking into the house's crawlspaces and getting themselves into trouble. Today, David and Mike came by again to install an outlet under our kitchen sink. Very impressively, even though he hadn't been to our house in months now, David still remembered where all the access points were and even called ahead to let us know which areas of the kitchen and cabinets should be cleared off so that they could access them more efficiently. As they were working, even though the price had already been agreed upon, David realized that the job could be done more efficiently by using some of the existing unused wiring, and proposed to me that they can do that instead of their original plan, decreasing the final price that we had to pay. Overall, dealing with Fielack Electric, and particularly with David, Mike, and the rest of their team has been an excellent experience, and I'd definitely ask them to return for other electrical work I may need done in the future.

    Complete Carpentry
Chris performed a total kitchen renovation for us. Everything went according to plan and Chris made the whole process super easy. He guided us through all the decisions that had to be made. We always felt comfortable calling him and getting his expert advice. Chris started exactly when he said he would and stayed on schedule throughout the entire job. He was always there on the job every single day doing all the work himself with a helper. When you hire Complete Carpentry you are hiring Chris, the owner. We loved the fact that he does all the work himself and doesn't sub out any of the work. Chris is honest, trustworthy, a perfectionist who has great attention to detail, neat, hardworking, and a pleasure to work with. We would definitely recommend Chris to anyone looking to do any work in their home and we will be using him again in the spring to do more work in our own home. He is simply the best!

    Popkin & Son Electric
Popkin cancelled my first appointment (emergencies happen and I was fine with that). Made new appointment. They called during week to confirm date/time (which they had wrong date). I corrected. They called next day to try to change time (we agreed on a compromise time). I had explained issue 3x and sent photos as they had requested. Day of appointment 2 gentleman arrived (both pleasant and kind), They took both switches off and were stumped. They called another technician and then tried calling their boss. They stated they WERE NOT licensed electricians but were rather working under the license of the owner. They returned with a switch that had a dimmer (this is a flourescent non-dimmable light). At this point I asked them to leave. I called company and they asked to send someone to 'make it right'. This gentleman arrived, explained that the technician was an apprentice and that he had intended to be there. He was carrying a Lowes bag with a switch (likely just purchased). This switch had a dimmer as well which he correctly noted would not be the one he would use. I informed him his technician had intended to put that very switch one. He told me the technician was "close". He told me the correct switch would be $125 and labor of $145 and would take 15 minutes. I thanked him and declined his offer. I must state that although the company was incompetent at making/keeping appointments and the 2 gentleman they sent were unprepared for this job EVERYONE that I spoke with at Popkin was polite and respectful at all times. That being said, I would suggest avoiding there company.

    MSG Becker Corp.
Having a previous terrible experience with a home improvement company in the past to say I was nervous in hiring another home improvement company for renovations for my new home would be an understatement. I had met with a few different home improvement companies to refinish my hardwood floors, paint the entire interior of my home, renovate my kitchen, refinish my basement and add electric receptacles in my garage. I was at my wits end until I was referred to Efrain Torales of MSG Becker. After meeting with Efrain and explaining what I needed completed he sent me an itemized estimate for each and every renovation. I was looking to have a wet bar installed in my basement. Whereas other companies wanted me to purchase cabinetry and wanted me to be responsible for the countertops I was amazed when Efrain said, "Not a problem, I'll build it for you." Not only did he constantly send me emails and text messages of his progress but when I moved up the timeframe for the completion of the renovations he worked 7 days a week to assure he could meet my timeframe. Even when adding other side projects to the renovation he happily completed them and didn't charge me an arm and a leg for the additional work. The few friends who had seen my home prior to the renovation can't believe how amazing and different it now looks. Choosing a home improvement company for major renovations can be a nerve racking experience but I'm ever so happy to have met Efrain. I have found my contractor for life. If you need any sort of home improvements don't do yourself a disservice and choose MSG Becker.

We couldn't be happier with the work performed. Chris and his staff are professional. They came on time, worked a full day and did the work with a smile on their faces. Everything was done to the highest level of quality. They were always willing to accomodate our requests and made the process as easy and pleasant as can be. I plan to use Complete Carpentry for our next project in a few months. I have already recommended them to our friends and would highly recommend them again and again.
