great, they were punctual, very professional, and were able to come out within a couple of days of when I made the request through Angie's list. They provided an estimate and were able to complete the job on the same day.

John & Joe were easy to work with. Price was reasonable. Crew was well behaved. Work was done quickly. Good job at cleaning up afterwards. During the process of removing the old shingles it was discovered that quite a few sections of plywood and a portion of rafters had to be replaced. Chimney also needed new flashing around it. John, Joe and crew are professionals and know what they are doing. Very happy with the results. They were recommended to us by one of our neighbors, and I would recommend them.

Price was the best of all quotes that I received. Was ready to go with Paul; I just needed time to make the decision and discuss with my wife. Then the phone calls began pressuring me to make a decision. Every day another call, and the more he called the more concerned I became. If Paul had just been patient and let me make my decision in my own time he probably would have gotten the job. But the calls raised real concerns. As it turned out my concerns were well justified. One of my neighbors later shared news of some shady dealings, which I could not verify-But I figured where there is smoke there is likely fire. I felt like I was getting the treatment from a professional salesman.

VanDusen delivered everything they had promised and more. Despite some weather concerns, the VanDusen crew, led by Zach, arrived on the date and time promised. They worked all day and completed everything as agreed within one work day. When they were finished, Zach gave me an inspection tour of the job, complete with photos of the insulation and some damage they had found in the plywood underlayment. Everything was cleaned up and the large work crew left as quickly as they had arrived. A few days later, we received a "thank-you" gift of delicious home-baked goodies from Eric and Shannon - what a wonderful old-fashioned gesture of appreciation for business given. Overall, we were very impressed with VanDusen Exteriors in every way. They made us feel as though our business was important to them; and that's not something that happens often enough today.

Mack arrived right on time for the appointment to give me an estimate. He was the only roofing contractor (out of seven) who would give me a warranty for the repair. Mack suggested replacing the whole roof around the dormer rather than just the valleys. The other quotes were more expensive and they were for replacing the roofing in the valleys only and the work would not be warrantied. On the day the work was set to begin Mack and his crew arrived on time and went immediately to work. They did a complete tear off of the existing roofing material and in doing so Mack was able to discover the root cause of my leak. The previous roofers had installed some step flashing incorrectly. Mack also discovered that even though there was a ridge vent cap installed there was no opening at the ridge vent. Mack fixed this be cutting an opening at the ridge with no additional expense to me. Mack and his crew did a great job. They fixed my roof, cleaned up after the work was done and they were a pleasure to work with. Mack took pictures of the project along they way that he shared with me after he was done and that was really great.

After the roofing company that had replaced our roof in 2005, and
provided follow-up repairs as recently as 2013, failed to return phone
messages starting in early summer 2015 regarding our two skylights
leaking, we turned to Angie's List to pursue another contractor.  By
then it was early November and we were catching more and more drips in
plastic wastebaskets in our main living area.  A local company I had
heard of but never used--Michael Graham & Son Construction--had very
high grades on Angie's List, and lots of them, so I gave them a call.
The young lady who answered the phone was up front about their crews
being pretty well booked right into the upcoming early winter, but would
send the estimator out anyway to assess what we needed and how they
might  "fit us in."  The estimator (Tony) arrived right on time and was
very friendly and professional in every way.  He confirmed we needed to
replace the skylights (unless we wanted to eliminate them, which we did
not) and took measurements, etc. to prepare a quote;  he indicated
confidence that the company would be able to fit out job in somewhere in
their schedule, anticipating it would take them just one day if not
less, but we would have to wait to hear from them because--due to
weather and other jobs on the calendar into January--it would be
unpredictable as to when they could find that day.  Sure enough, a month
or less later we received Tony's call to give us about a week's notice
they could come to do our windows.  And sure enough, it was a one-day
job in early December with daylight left over.  The Michael C. Graham
& Son crew consisted of plenty of workers (including Michael Graham
Jr., company owner) and all were well-skilled, efficient, and
courteous.  Two new high-quality Velux fixed skylights (c.2'x6') were
beautifully installed and have behaved beautifully for us.  Per their
recommendation and quote, they also re-roofed the entire approx. 16' x
30' porch-like roof area where the skylights are located using a quality
architectural shingle and water shield all the way up--pretty much
essential with our harsh central New York winters.  We especially
appreciated the special attention Michael gave to matching the older
shingle so closely, as that brown color had been discontinued within
five years of when it was originally put on our house(!).

Went very well. They arrived with a huge crew - maybe as many as 25 workers. They knew exactly what they were doing. They protected the entire house with plywood sheets, protected all the shrubery and walkways with tarps, and within probably 3 hours of their arrival the entire old roof had been removed,  put into a dumpster, and the entire yard all cleaned up.
Wherever the roof met the siding, they removed the siding, removed the old flashing, and installed new flashing.
Replaced the flashing to one chimney,  inspected and then re-pointed the copper flashing on a second chimney.
The entire job took one full day and a few hours on a second day.
    Very impressed by their work

On July 3rd of this year ( 2013 ) I contracted with Mr.Hallowell to do a two day ( his words, not mine ) roofing and partial siding job at my home. At that time he emailed me that he would be starting at the end of July or the first week of August. After no contact, I again contacted Mr. Hallowell at the end of August, at which time he emailed me that the weather had prevented him from starting this job and said, again, that he intended to start as soon as good weather returned. Well, today is the 20th of October and I have not heard a word from him.
He effectively prevented me from getting this work done this year with his excuses. I wish to thank him for that. I also hope that this review exposes his poor business practices because I am not the only person he has "Stiffed". I will continue to tell everyone I come in contact with not to hire this man unless they get an ironclad start date, which will not happen.
I am not prone to writing reviews such as this but if this review helps just one person then it is worth it. Also I have copies of emails sent and received to prove my case.

They came out and did an estimate for an entire roof before they started and gave me several options of different replacement products.  I wanted to replace the roof for the entire time that I wanted to live in the house, so I needed an indefinite replacement product.  They set us up with a product that would have a 25 year guarantee, labor, and product.  They came out and started on the day they said they would start.  They found some rotted wood underneath which I anticipated because of the state of the roof I was having replaced.  They replaced the roof at the rate they said that they were going to replace it and it did not inflate the previous estimate, but it was within what I was told to expect.  They did a great job and all within the period I thought.  They also found the problem for why the wood was rotting underneath and that was because the venting system was not put in properly, so they fixed the problem that caused the original rotting.  I spent about $16000 on that service.

Two men on two 8 hr. days, had to build support posts.  Roof will hold two men easily and supported intense snowfall this past two winters.  Well worth the money.  The posts already installed would be the first step toward screening it in sometime in the future.
