Landscaping reviews in Peekskill

Real People ~ Real Reviews ~ Real Results

  • The project went extremely well. I can’t say enough about the professionalism shown by James Walsh and his magnificent crew. I called for an estimate after reading all the glowing reviews on Angie’s List. The fact that my location was in Northern Westchester was not an issue. He was very accommodating. We spoke about what I wanted and the ideas I had and he offered his opinion and sometimes alternative suggestions based on his vast experience. Due to changes in the weather, the start date was delayed, but James kept in touch throughout. On the first day, he and his crew came out to inspect the site and take measurements. They also manually broke up the concrete walkway...with sledge hammers🤪. For the next three days after that, they were here every morning at 7:30 am. His crew was amazing. They and James all worked together like a well oiled machine..not wasting any time. Their craftsmanship was outstanding! You could see the respect that they had for each other. James was great at finding solutions to potential problems. With the driveway apron, there was an issue with the depth of buried Verizon cables. With no info from 811, Verizon, or the City, I was ready to give up on the project. James was very encouraging saying that they would go very slowly and carefully and make it work somehow. In the end, we had no problem with the installation and it turned out beautifully. In another instance, the stone yard did not have the pavers that I’d chosen for the walkway and James went with me to select a new paver, offering valuable advice about the preferred size and layout suitable for my space. We selected a 3 piece paver set that neither of us had intended and it looks fantastic. He discovered that, because of a height difference, we could not use the same pavers bordered by bluestone on the front door platform. We decided to just go with all bluestone on the platform to maintain a uniform height. After trying to brainstorm other options, James suggested a colored bluestone for the center. I was a little hesitant because I did not want the colors to clash. He reassured me that it was neutral enough to work. I trusted his judgement and it looks wonderful! James is a very trusting person. He asked for no money upfront or throughout the job...no 1/3 now, 1/3 halfway through, 1/3 at the end. With him it was simply he does what you ask him to do, and you pay him when he’s finished. That’s rare these days. There was no additional monies tacked on at the end of the job....even if he paid more for materials than anticipated. The costs were not passed on to the client. The job site was left immaculate. All debris was removed and even some that they didn’t generate! All in all, I would not hesitate to work with James and his crew again. They were very meticulous in every detail. You could see the pride that was taken in what they were doing. James is very lucky. He’s got one of the best crews around. At the end, he and I walked through to inspect each of the areas. James was very patient in answering all my questions and concerns. After that, it was “call me if there are any problems and I will come back and fix it” and they were gone. After having worked with James for a mere 4 days, I’m sure he meant it! You will not regret hiring Rock Solid General Contractors!

  • When a nor-easter brought down part of our maple tree and damaged our roof and one side of the house, Louis's Landscaping and Home Improvement was there every step of the way. They came out in the middle of the storm and removed the branches that had fallen on our neighbor's car. They later removed the rest of the branches and debris. They repaired the small hole in the roof, and replaced our entire roof. They did repairs to the exterior siding, power-washed, and repainted that side of the house. And they did interior repairs (cracks in the walls, and resealing a window), and painted. They did a fantastic job with everything. Very reliable, great work, and reasonably priced. I wouldn't hesitate to call them again. Louis's Landscaping and Home Improvement is our first call for any home-related project.

  • Everything was done fine except Rob's big hauler that brought in his forklift daily messed up my asphalt curb! I told Rob this and he said it was already there and thought I knew that. ********! When he took about a 10' x10' section of pavers in the backyard, he told me would put back soil but instead put sandy dirt! Also, I asked his helper if there was enough soil and he told me, "plenty." Another lie. Had 2 landscaping companies come out who told me about the sandy dirt and had to put a yard of new topsoil to level the area out. Another reason to avoid home-based businesses, like Rob's. If you use him, watch him like a hawk.....

  • They are very good. They do not do yard work. I've used them for the past 15 or so years. They've done very good work for me. They are reliable and dependable. I don't even see the workers because I am at work. The results are very good.

  • No matter what kind of service, they always do a very good job for a reasonable price. The first time they did a full yard cleaning and trimming, I almost cried, it looked so amazing. They are very professional and responsive, and go above and beyond every time. Definitely our first call for just about any project around the house and yards.

  • Their crew purposely blew land clippings onto my property. When confronted, one guy said he was blowing it onto the street. I threatened to call his office and he said he would blow the clippings away from my house which he did but that's not how it's done. I've used other landscapers whose crew either use a bag with their walk-behind mower or use a leaf blower to collect onto a tarp which they take with them when done. It's never left behind or blown into someone else's property.

  • Professional and courteous work. Crew arrived on time and date as scheduled. While the two trees were not large, they were tricky to access and the team devised good solutions to complete the job without any damage to property. There was some damage done to a garden border while trying to get the truck into my driveway but it was repaired to its original condition before the crew left. Clean up was very good. Robert Rosamilia was attentive throughout the process, from estimate to follow up. The price seemed fair for a crew of three for about 2.5 hours work.

  • The tick control service is okay but I didn't see that they eliminated pesky mosquitoes.  The problem is the service with their CSR's.

Originally, Eric Welch was unresponsive so then dealt with the Supervisor, Tanya (?; not sure of her name as she didn't email me her contact info as I asked) but she didn't respond to me a few months later so I called Rich McHale who upgraded to their VIP CSR, Mickey Morello who was fine initially but did not respond to my email concern that their crew came out in mid November for their last spray despite it being cancelled twice!   He knows I'm unhappy as he did not bother to contact me this year to re-start my tick control program which is fine with  me but I want Rich McHale to know this as I am more than happy to give my
business to someone else, like Garrie Pest Control.  So much for VIP treatment.

    Re: Landscaping
Rep Bruce Peterson came out to look at my lawn and he came back with a $800 estimate to remove a 12' tall
Apple tree saying that since he didn't have a grinding tool, it would take 2 guys all day to remove.   I hired another local Landscaping company and it took their 2 guys 50 minutes just using shovels.   I asked Bruce how he can charge so much.  His answer was that since it's not his specialty, their prices would be higher.  W**?!  One pays more for expertise and less if they don't have the specialty skill.   I wonder if he understands the absurdity of his rationale.  I wonder if I would have been stuck with the $800 charge if I had used Bruce and was not home not knowing how long it actually took to remove that tree.  My experience with contractors is that they will give a low and high range quote but the customer will always wind up paying the upper end.

Re: Insulation work done by their subsidiary, Enviorcare

I would not recommend Enviorcare because they are NOT NYSERDA certified (I only discovered this after the work was done) so a homeowner will not receive any state subsidies but even if they were,  I still wouldn't recommend them to anyone because I found the rep, Chris Puleo, who's also a junior partner to be obnoxious and at times condescending.  Whenever, I had questions about the borate cellulose material, the work being done and the cost, the tone on his voice was never welcoming.   It was as if I was bothering him and I felt as I was being scolded.  He has very in-your-face personality.  I told owner, Rob McHale, about Chris's obnoxious behavior and he laughed it off and said, "...I don't know what you want me to say..."

Also, I initially was rejected on the 1 year interest-free financing program.  It turned out it was because I had put my rental address instead of the home address but when it was rectified, I asked Envirocare to put the $3K deposit with the entire loan, Chris called me to say it would cause problems; a liability issue?  Huh?  My gut tells me it was all about money; them not losing any.

Recently, in early January '16,  I emailed their Marketing Director, Rob Rieger, about having one of their Technicians (other
than Chris Puleo) to come back to my house with a thermal imaging camera to see how well of a job Envirocare did with properly insulating my house as one room is still very cold.  I had to email Rob again after 3 weeks to get an update and he tells me on 1/27/16 that he would be get back on my scheduling someone to come out and ".. I would appreciate it if you could
take your negative review down that is still up on Angie?s List as previously discussed."  Over a month as passed and I have not heard back as I have not deleted my review and will not compromise my integrity.  I will only update a review once a company rectifies a problem.  I guess, this is what Rob means by "mutually beneficial relationship."  I wonder how many other negative reviews are missing from Angie's List because of this "arrangement."

If you decide to use Envirocare, make sure they come back with a thermal imaging camera to assess their work since the insulation is behind the walls.  Keep in mind that Envirocare uses borate cellulose and I heard about other products available after installation.  Do some research as this company (link below) does not like cellulose in the walls because it settles over time and prefer tri-polymer foam.

  • We recently moved into a new house and the previous owners seemed to be massively into their garden and plants.  Unfortunately, we do not have a green thumb so we needed someone to clean up our overgrown grass / yard and save the garden.  After contacting Freddy (the owner) via Angie's List email, he immediately responded and arrived the next day on time to provide a quote.  Freddy offered advice on how to best keep the garden and even suggested ideas on low-maintenance plants.  Freddy provided a reasonable quote and his two-man team arrived with him on the scheduled work day with all the necessary equipment.
Freddy gave his team a walk-through and explained what needed to be done, before he went off and let them work.  The team (Cecilio & Alfredo) worked diligently from about 8 AM to about 1 -2 PM and all I can say is WOW!  They got rid of all the dead plants, weeds and trimmed overgrown greenery.  The outside of my home looked brand new!  I was beyond impressed with how well they worked and even more impressed with how well they cleaned up afterwards.  Everything was perfect and I would ABSOLUTELY hire them again.

  • The work they did was very professional and well-priced; however, it was near to impossible to get a hold of them and to get them to the property. Several times we scheduled for them to come and they did not, and even getting an estimate for work took a very long time. It got to an unreasonable point so we discontinued working with them.
