House Painting reviews in Palmyra

    Englehart Painting & Wall Covering
Wow! My house looks amazing. Joe was very nice and took the time to answer all my questions. They painted the entire house as well as the shutters, doors, and steps. We found out there were several hornets nests attached to the house and those were taken care of too. They showed up everyday and the price was honest. I would gladly hire Englehart again

Our house was in need of a paint job, as there was a lot of peeling and flaking.  Kevin came to our house in april of 2012 and gave an estimate that was about in the middle of all the other estimates we received ($1,900 to $5,400).  He was, however, the only one that gave us a 3 year warranty.  Being a relatively new homeowner and naive about contracting in general and especially about house painting, i never asked to see the warranty in the beginning and did not know about lead paint practices.  Nevertheless, we hired Kevin.  He told us that he would begin work in early June.  Well June came and we never saw, nor heard from him.  We called him and he told us that he was still on another job and would be with us soon.  He finally came to begin work mid-July.  He started by sanding and scraping.  when i came home the first day from work and saw the condition of my wood siding, i was shocked.  His sander had chewed up my siding terribly!  the wood was extremely rough and you could see the swirls from the orbital sander he used that had gouged deep into my siding.  not being well versed in sanding techniques, i had my wife who was present during all the work inquire.  She later told me that he told her that all of the rough spots would be taken care of.  Well, they finished the sanding the following day and all the rough spots were exactly the same.  In fact, most of the house was like that!  I also noticed gouging in the aluminum wrap around my windows.  I began to have doubts, but i tried to keep faith that Kevin knew what he was doing.  I thought maybe the primer would cover up most of the rough stuff, but i worried about some of the deep gouges.  Two days later he completed the painting.  It looked beautiful from the street.  But, as i made close inspection (standing three feet away), i could see all of the sanding marks still in the siding.  It was AWFUL!!  I was horrified!  I noticed that my trash receptacle was filled with all of their empty paint cans and trash.  They had spilled paint on my grass and there were blank spots--yes they were small--around the windows that had NO paint.  Also, i had to clean all of my window sills and screens from all of the LEAD PAINT DUST!!!  I later learned that he was supposed to have sealed all of the windows with plastic to prevent that.  I called him a day later and he argued with me and told me there was nothing he could do.  I had already paid him because i didn't know any better.  He felt he did nothing wrong when he filled up MY trash receptacle with HIS trash because it all went to the same place.  He felt he did not ruin my siding and did not want to come look at it.  I finally convinced him to come and look.  When he arrived, he was cold and rude.  i showed him the gouging in the siding and the rough spots where you could clearly see the swirl marks from his orbital sander, as well as the gouges in my window wraps.  He finally agreed to re-sand some of the spots and do some touch up paint.  Well, he did, but it didn't help.  I have pictures that i will email anyone who would like to see.
