APremier Roofing & Remodeling LLCI called Premier Roofing and talked with James. I was distraught and frustrated as I had just paid $15,000 to have my roof done by a local roofer. The roof started leaking again after two weeks of the initial repair. I called and spoke with James. He was very professional and responded immediately! He came right out and assessed the roof taking pictures and explaining the issues created by the initial roofer. It turns out unfortunately I was taking advantage of because the last roofer did not know what he was doing. James gave me several quotes, giving me different options and offered a cheaper rate because of my situation. The roof was completed efficiently and work was phenomenal! There was no clean up left behind and the roof looks beautiful. I would highly recommend Premier Roofing and would definitely use them again if I needed work done in the future! Ask for James! He’s very knowledgeable and professional!- Kelly H.

AContinuity Construction Services, Inc.Was fantastic, responsive and the most honest contract I've ever dealt with. Can you imagine a contractor that actually returns money to you if materials scheduled to be used upon estimation were not used?. Duane Randall II and his frim, which has been in business for 40 years, did exactly that when they put a roof on my Mom's home. Duane was just super, provided all the indicia of required insurance, ie workmans comp and general liability upon request. He and his firm which is family owned and managed did such a quality job on my Mom's roof that a roofing company firm that I'd hired to inspect their work said that he wished that his own home had a roof installed by Continuity Construction Services Inc. . That's not all he does, my Mom's home was being prepared for sale. Everything that needed to be done was done correctly (including rebuilding a crawl space that was in bad shape- needed new supports, insulation, vents closed etc) and with quality workmanship. Beacused of the super job done by Continuity Construction Services, my Mom's home was on the market less than 24 hrs and it was under contract. Duane has a keen intuition on what needs to done in all construction situations, he expresses that intuition in a rapport sensitive fashion and works very well with real estate agents. Many contractors operate very differently from Duane. I obtained 4-6 bids for my Mom's roof.Continuity's bid provided the greatest insight into what was going to be done and the related cost. Also Continuity's bid was the least expensive but provided the best materials and warranty. During the whole process, Duance took "before" and "after" pictures that really kept me in the loop during the whole process. He/Continuity did everything, shampooed carpets, interior painting, plumbing, they did it all and just great quality, professionalism and attention to detail. Also, when they project a completion date, its done but in the event a certain date has to be pushed back, he provides notice way in advance- just a true professional- Mark R.

AKiefer-Randall Construction & Remodeling LLCWe selected Kiefer-Randall to remodel our kitchen and bathroom because they had an excellent rating on Angie's List. Another important factor for us was that Kiefer-Randall is a somewhat larger company and we felt that they could do the job faster than a smaller organization. With a larger company, the work can proceed at your home, while elsewhere, company personnel are cutting orders, picking up and delivering materials, and generally taking care of all the tasks that keep the project moving but which, in a smaller company, can eat away at the time available for the actual work. Once our project began, it continued on with Kiefer-Randall staff on our property every work day. That Kiefer-Randall is a larger company turned out to be critical, at one point, when serious and extensive structural damage was discovered under the floor and the walls of the bathroom. City inspectors became involved, requiring an architect and a putting together of many heads to come up with a solution. Kiefer-Randall performed this task well and saved us many thousands of dollars in the process. In this regard, we were continually pleased to find that the Kiefer-Randall workmen were comfortable with the challenges that our 100-year old house presents to a contractor. We saw mention in another Kiefer-Randall review (here on Angie's List) of "Joe" and how pleased they were with his work. We also had the pleasure of having Joe do most of the remodeling for us. He is a gentleman who is also a hard worker, one who knows his business and is very careful with the details. There are many fine touches that he provided on this job; and his tile work is just beautiful. Given the quality of this company, we are certain that all Kiefer-Randall employees are equally competent; we just happened to have Joe and he was a pleasure to have on our property. We saw some reviews on Angie's List that gave Kiefer-Randall a "B" rating on price. We didn't find that to be true. While Kiefer-Randall was not the low bidder on our project, we already have plenty of horror stories from contractors who sold us their services based on price. We did not want to go through that again. We wanted this project to be done well, in a timely manner, and without hassles. We consider what we paid to Kiefer-Randall to be a fair price and money well spent. They listened to everything we said and then made sure we got what we asked for. As for concerns that arose during the project, all were addressed immediately and to our complete satisfaction. Kiefer-Randall is a solid "A" company. We would not have wanted to pay for less.- Jacques K.

AKiefer-Randall Construction & Remodeling LLCI contracted with Tim for some minor repairs. Tim was punctual and responsive throughout the estimate process. Before work was scheduled to start, my house along with my entire town and much of the region was indundated by the Tropical Storm Lee flooding disaster, and I had to gut my entire first floor. Tim worked with me to survey the damage, prepare an estimate for new repairs, work out financing and reschedule a complete remodeling. This was obviously a very stressful process in the post-flood chaos and did not go as smoothly on either of our ends as I believe it would have under more normal circumstances. After initial delays, work was performed as promised. Tim's crew worked hard and communications were good during a time when many contractors have been impossible to reach and uninterested in dealing with a small old house.- Nathan K.

APARLOR CITY DRYWALL & PAINTING, Inc.It was great. There were 2 problem areas...a chair rail was not level and a shutter was not level. The response to correct the problems was immediate. Another job they performed for us was to plaster and paint, do some plumbing, install shelves and lighting and level and paint the floor in our basement after the house was propped up and three of the cellar walls were replaced. That was around Oct. 2013. We are still very pleased with the work that was done.- kate b.

AHalcoStarting with the energy audit, Matt performed a blower door test and gave some recommendations for how to make our old brick house more energy efficient. Throughout the process, Matt was professional and knowledgeable with his recommendations. The work was split into three separate groups that came to our house, [1] the insulation and air sealing crew, [2] the furnace crew, and [3] the window crew. The two guys that came and did the insulation arrived on time, were very friendly, and did an excellent job with the work. Knowing that house house was especially leaky, they were meticulous in the attic, being sure to seal every possible source of air infiltration. The next group that came were the furnace crew. Again, they arrived on time and were very professional with the installation of our furnace. Where I was really blown away with Halco though was their window crew. We had previously had three windows replaced with another company, and were hesitant to have Halco do our windows as we knew their reputation as an energy company, but hadn't heard much about them doing windows. I couldn't be happier with our choice to use them. They offer Sunrise windows, which have an excellent R-Value for the price. Every day, Larry and the window crew arrived on time and were some of the most professional people we have had to work on our house. Taking a few extra days because of the difficulty of the trim work, Larry made sure to take his time on every single window until they were perfect. He even was able to reinstall a 120 year old stained glass window we had in our barn in a way that would preserve the window and keep the house energy efficient. Overall, I really couldn't be happier with our decision to use Halco. Their customer service is absolutely excellent and they offer service at a top-level quality.- Casondra C.

AI just closed on my house at the end of October and it needed chimney sealing. Other contractors promised to take the job on and then did not deliver. One contractor even told me it didn't need work without even going up on the roof. This company was also busy but came out and got the job done within a week or so of my call. The price was also most reasonable. You are my roofers for life Mike Peranich. Thank you for fitting me in. I was so worried that the roof was going to leak and cause damage this winter. Such a relief to have it done. Thank you again. Anne C.

AI received a phone call back within hours of my call. Although they cannot take on any new work because of Covid 19 until after the first of the year, I can only say they made a wonderful impression on me-- consistent with the high marks I found for them on Angies List. Most of the calls I have made to contractors have not been returned. This is a nice company. I will call in January. Thank you

DWe used The Powell Company for several jobs on our house near Oneonta before realizing our mistake, so we have the experience to warn others. First, this company makes some very stupid “mistakes”. For example, they put a downspout directly over an electrical outlet, and they replaced items on our house that were NOT the rotted ones. We had to call them back to move the downspout so it wouldn’t block the outlet, and to replace the correct items; they got angry and blamed US for cutting into their profit because doing the work the right way would cost them money. Second, they cut corners or use cheap materials despite the impact on their customers; for example, they used plastic gutter brackets that broke in a season instead of metal ones that hold up year after year. Third, good builders try to think ahead and account for contingencies in a project in advance and fairly, but in our experience Powell didn’t use its imagination because it just put all risk of an unknown or cost overrun on us. This can result in large avoidable and unnecessary costs for the homeowner. Third, being lawyers, we recognized that proposals Powell gave us, which become binding contracts once signed, were, in our opinion, unfairly one-sided — they protected only Powell in any contingency that arose during their work and if any litigation came from the contract. We tried to change this to protect ourselves too, but could not. We have found other builders who are fairer from the get-go, or who will promptly agree to changes to lopsided proposals, and such an attitude speaks volumes. Last, but certainly not least, we foolishly didn’t get other bids for a few jobs that Powell did. When we wised up, we found that Powell cost 2-4 times what other builders did for the jobs we were doing. Bottom line — we caution anyone considering using The Powell Company.

FIt has been over three years and the work is not completed. I, stupidly, paid in full because I needed the work done. My husband had ALS and was dying. These projects were to make our home easier for him to get around. My husband died before the projects were completed. Will has ignored my attempts to contact him to complete the work. The gutters on the addition don't work correctly and my basement is being flooded with the roof run off. My phone lines are getting wet and cause a buzzing sound on my phone. The foundation is eroding from the water poring off the addition roof. He won't return my phone calls and now his voice box is full. I am battling cancer and severe arthritis and I can't afford to hire someone else. My advice is stay clear of All American Builders in Sidney, NY.
