Door Installation reviews in Old Bethpage

It all went well in the beginning when I requested an estimate.  He gave me approximate pricing per square foot for the job.  He even went and gave me two pricing models, one for regular install and one for install with leveling (mud job) but the final price cannot be determined until he (Scott) comes by to take a closer look, which is fair.  The prices were $6/ft for regular and $8/ft with leveling.  I confirmed our appointment two days before by giving him one final call.  I know he was driving but he claimed that if my job did not require leveling he could knock off an extra dollar per foot on the regular install.  I was excited to hear all this. That takes the regular install down to $5/ft.
Two days later he came by, punctual, at the agreed time.  We head into my basement and he took a look.  He did not expect mouldings and said that tile install did not include moulding removal nor installation, again a very fair statement.  He said he had to charge an extra $50 for removal and $50 for putting them back on.  The installation also includes removing the existing carpet which I agreed to dispose of myself.  We mutually agreed to all this and asked him for final price.  He quoted $1300 (200 ft at $6 and $100 for moulding work).  Scott was such a cool guy that I did not mention the discount he offered me on the phone.  The real price, if he remembered his discount would have been $1100 ($1000 for tiles and $100 for mouldings).  I confirmed with him right before he walked out my front door that $1300 would be the final price and he agreed.  He apologized many times for not bringing his notebook to take down notes.  I did him a favor by sending an email to his company and his wife would send over an estimate with all the details and agreed price.
Three days past and no email nor phone call.  I emailed again asking for an official estimate.  Hours later an estimate comes though at $1400 from Scott's wife.  I asked for reason and the response was that now it costs $100 for moulding removal and another $100 for installation.  I insisted that Scott said $50 a piece and yielded no response.  So magically my price went from $1100 (discounted) to $1300 (normal) to $1400 (wife markup).  It could be that Scott has bad memory since he forgot about my discount, forgot about the numbers he offered me, forgot to bring his notebook to take notes, but at the end of the day, the wife makes the final decisions, right?
I would not do business with this company for such deceitful practice and total waste of my time.

The team showed up on time and worked for many hours removing the old door and correcting any existing field conditions to receive the new door and side lites.  They also reconnected the door's alarm and cleaned up all signs of demolition and construction.  It looks great.

The bottom floor of our house previously consisted of a den with wood paneling, tile floors and no built-in lighting.  Adjacent to that was a non-functional summer kitchen that we had no need for (but was in place when we bought the house).  We wanted to gut the entire thing, knock down walls for an open space, add built-ins in the den along with a gas fireplace, and add built-ins in the old kitchen space to make it a multi-functional office space.  We also wanted to put in sliding barn doors to separate the office space from the den, when desired, and install hardwood floors throughout the space.
Price Quotes:  We started getting price quotes in January 2015, and got four price quotes including from US Home.  As for US Home, their price was the cheapest (by quite a bit) but our ultimate agreement was such that we would purchase the built-ins, floors, fireplace and barn doors on our own, and they would do the install.  This explained why the price was cheaper, since we'd be incurring additional expense through other vendors.  Some other companies proposed doing some or all of this purchasing/work for us, obviously at much higher prices.  After many rounds of discussion with Bob and other vendors, we decided to go with US Home because they seemed the most professional, competent and reasonable.  For example, we got another bid of approx 60,000 from another company which was supposed to include "everything."  When we met with them to discuss the bid, we immediately realized two things were missing from the bid, and voila, their price went up.  And that was just for the two things we realized in the moment.  This was a common occurrence for every company except US Home--i.e. if after looking at the bid we decided to take something out of the project, it wouldn't change the price, but if we wanted to add something, it raised the price.  This was NOT the case with US Home.  We added lots (LOTS) of things, mostly small, throughout our construction process, including wainscoting, additional storage door, additional outlets, additional hi-hats, converting to dimmer switches, among many other things I can't recall off hand.  None of this added to our price and they were glad to do it, even when we asked them to do it after they had completed aspects of the work.  The only up charge was $250 for a different kind of molding.  From everything I read going into this process, people said to build in an extra 30% for upcharges.  Not with US Home--only $250!!
What they did:  We started construction in late May, and they just completed everything in early August.  There was a long break in between because our built-ins were delayed and didn't come until late July.  Not at all their fault--we ordered them ourselves from another company.  But as soon as they built-ins came, Joe and his crew were back the next day to install them and finish the project.  Overall, their work consistent of full demolition, knocking down walls and re-framing the walls including adding a new closet, supplying and installing hi-hats throughout, installing gas fireplace, installing built-ins, building and tiling a mantle, painting and wainscoting, supplying and installing all molding, re-piping heating elements, among many other smaller things (we originally were having them supply and install floors, but decided to have someone else do that piece, so they lowered their price to take that piece out).  The work was all done professionally, cleanly and with little aggravation.  It was also done so quickly.  When we started, we were shocked at how quick they were moving, to the point that there were things they did before we could chime in with special requests, but they were always willing to change and fix things when we asked.
Responsiveness:  We both work full time so the contractors were here without us most days, requiring us to communicate with them at night, when we'd come home and see what had been done that day.  We texted/called Joe almost daily, and he responded on text very quickly, each time.  And as noted, was always willing to do anything we asked.  On many occasions, he came by at 7AM to walk through things with us before we left for work.  We probably drove him crazy a bit, but he didn't show it, and was always responsive and accommodating.
Overall:  We would hire them again in a heartbeat.  The price was the best, and there was no nickel and diming.  And the work quality was amazing, and we are thrilled with our new space.  We really wrestled with who to hire in the first place, and almost gave up the project out of frustration with not knowing if we would be making the right decision on who to hire.  Very glad we didn't do that and that we went with US Home.  We highly recommend

I recently leased a store front that used to be a bakery. It must have been there a very long time because everything was dated. I've used this contractor in the past to renovate a home I purchased. Akmal is not only an extremely skilled and knowledgeable contractor, but he's incredibly polite and always aims for perfection. He bent over back wards to satisfy me both times.

We had the greatest experience with Graceful Home Remodeling. Marie and Glen from the beginning were on target with what we wanted they listened to what we talked about and designed a plan to accomplish our goals for our house. They made suggestions that we did not even think about that really made the house more than we could have asked for.We had every detail of our project laid out for us, they made it easy to do one step at a time. Every aspect was broken down into easy steps that made our project just move along at a surprisingly fast pace. We were done before our projected completion date. Every detail of the job was supervised by Marie she was more worried than us about our home. I would recommend Graceful Home Remodeling to anyone who asks about doing any type of project around the house.

Kevin and his son are wonderful. Great people to deal with. The results far exceeded our expectations. In fact we are having them back to do more involved work.
