What a mistake we made putting our trust in Total Home Solutions of NY, LLC (THS). Never in all of my years of working with contractors have I had such an unfortunate experience. Work began on our house without proper permitting and without a certificate of insurance- both required by law. Work completed did not meet code as determined by both a licensed architect and the local town code enforcement officer. The code officer outlined the steps necessary to make our house a legally inhabitable space, but THS failed to assume full financial responsibility to make it right. We had to pay out of pocket for what is essentially the price of the original contract to fix these issues ourselves. THS has not returned any credit for our substantial out of pocket expenses to bring their work up to code and has not reached out to resolve the issue. It shakes me to the core that people and their companies can sleep at night with this type of behavior. Based on our family's experience I WOULD AVOID THIS BUSINESS UNDER ALL CIRCUMSTANCES.

Overall, excellent. We did encounter a few problems with the spray in wall insulation since the original sheet rock was just nailed in. A few sections bowed into the room. This is actually pretty common with old houses. The problem was quickly corrected, the walls properly secured, the insulation reinstalled (blown in) and the job completed. In modifications to a home, it is not always the problems you encounter, it is how you deal with them. Advance had the problem identified with a resolution that was completed within a day. Very pro-active!

Pete's a great guy and knows his insulation. He came out to take a look in my attic and spent about hour with me exploring and discussing what the state of my attic was and what kind of things he could do to improve it. He quickly emailed me a quote and proposal. We continued talking about it on the phone to change the scope of work a bit but quickly settled on a good arrangement -- complete sealing of all penetrations in the attic (to stop air flow from the heated space below-I had a lot of holes!), make sure the exhaust fan ducts are secured and sealed, and most importantly, gain access to some of the sealed-off attic areas to properly insulate and vent them, and then blow in enough cellulose insulation to get to proper standards (I think at least R40). I already had fiberglass batts in the main part of the attic, but in gables and a sealed-off part I had basically nothing. Pete sent out three workers (Scott and crew), and they worked quickly and efficiently. They finished the job after three hot, sweaty hours in my attic in August. They put in about 70 baffles to ensure venting up from the soffit vents stays open. They sealed up all the holes in the ceiling made from ceiling light junction boxes and a big empty space by my chimney that runs all the way up from the basement. They cut access holes into the spaces over the gables and sealed attic space, squirreled their way in and installed the baffles and blew in lots of cellulose. Then they capped off the older fiberglass batts (still in good shape) with the blown-in cellulose to make sure all the gaps were filled in and covered for good insulation. Very pleased with the work and clean up afterwards. I can't say for sure yet until winter if they ice dams are eliminated, but they did the work well and up to spec, and I'm sure it will be much improved.

We called Affordable Energy to get estimate for attic insulation. He gave us honest opinion and very detailed advice as to what we can do and rough approximate cost. Although we could not use his service due to other urgent services we needed, we will definitely consider him for our future insulation project.

Qouted $14,000 for an attic insulation enhancement.  I got a couple other quotes and they said that nothing needed to be done.  They tried to sell me "special insulation" that cost A LOT more.

It was an all day-project. It was very good. I was very pleased with his work. I do not have any dislikes with him. He's a little bit more in a high side but I was pleased with the work that is completed. He's a little bit pricey.

I accepted the audit.  They showed up when they were supposed to.  They started in August and completed the work in January.  They never resolved the problems of the air coming through skylight and kitchen window.  My biggest problem was the freezing pipes.  They put some insulation in the crawl space.  I am hopeful that they solved the problem with the freezing pipes.  They were very nice people.  It was a lengthy process.  I would do an audit around November instead of the summer if I had to do it again.  They aren't able to do window insulation. The 4th time that they came out, the owner came and he was very concerned that the job get done.

I haven't had Pete over for over 12 years. Haven't had to. Pete was at the top of the game. He knew everything about home insulation, materials and application. I would use him again in a heart beat.

Can't say enough good things about Don Frame and his crew.  I am a very DEMANDING customer and Mr. Frame met every requirement I placed on the table to our TOTAL SATISFACTION.  If I said I wanted something done a certain way, it was done that way or he was able to explain why it shouldn't be.  Would I hire him again?   Absolutely!!!!   Don, if you're reading this, please give me a call at your convenience.  There are a few items I need you to look at for springtime work.

They were knowledgeable and professional at every step of the process. We started with an energy audit that was subsidized by National Grid at the time. They did some sealing for free at the time. The proposal for additional work was detailed and thoughtfully presented. It was explained to us that they might find things that would required a little extra work beyond the initial estimate. That did happen, but it was only for about $300 and resulted when they found an additional area exposed to the outside air above the garage where it could not have been detected ahead of time.

They arrived when scheduled and were very organized and thoughtful with every phase of the project. They did a great job protecting the house from any mess that was created and thoroughly cleaned up at the end.

My first month's heat bill showed half the usual number of therm used for heating compared to the same month last year (it was warmer this year, so I expect the actual reduction to be closer to 1/3). They also submitted a request on my behalf for a rebate from NYSERDA that will amount to about $500. They really made it their business to advocate on my behalf to know about and take advantage of any government program that would help offset some of the cost. This is not a small task as these incentive programs change frequently and apparently require a good deal of documentation. They had to make at least one extra trip to my house to take pictures and measurements in order to qualify me for the rebate in this case.

For us, this project was an opportunity to make a lasting contribution to the infrastructure of our house, lower our carbon footprint, and invest in lower heating bills for the future. I am satisfied that these objectives will all have been met through the very professional work of Zerodraft.
