  • they are awful contractors, everything I hired them for is now being replaced and done right by a trustworthy contractor. They put in my laminate wood floors which they did not "click" multiple boards together had to have the floors ripped up being they were falling downwards front not being properly linked. They put up my deck without the proper permits and illegally did the posts. Did some plaster work which was not even and had handprints ( they also left a disgusting mess behind) ! They windows the installed are on a slant and not straight ( also said they would be putting in a window that was 30 x 54 - after window was installed it was only a 24 by 24 when questioned I got a run around and a shrug of the shoulders. save your money and frustration and go elsewhere and get the job done right. These guys are just worried about getting a paycheck and running away! disgrace

  • It went terrible, worse than anyone could even imagine.  This whole experience has been an absolute nightmare.  I hired someone to do the job so it would not be stressful.  It turned out to be more stressful than you can even imagine.  This guy, Ken Febus, basically ripped me off.  He did very little work per the contract, and he never delivered the material that I paid $1225 for.  4 weeks after we signed the contract he was supposedly shopping for these materials and on his way to my house.  Really???  Then he never showed up that day anyway, offered me a refund and is now missing in action.  More details below:
We signed a contract 6/27/15 for the following work to be done in 2 weeks. He was supposed to deliver the materials at the start of the job when I paid $1225 for the materials. To date, I have less than $100 in materials at my house.  He promised to deliver the epoxy cement for the garage floor on 7/13/15, the Monday after I reluctantly paid him an additional $500 toward labor as good will on his word because he needed money to pay his guys. He did not deliver this cement. He repeatedly told me how he would be doing certain parts of the work that day or the next.  To date, the only part of the work he has completed is cleaning my gutters. The garage walls and ceiling remain unfinished.  (He spent 10-12 days spackilng and sanding fresh sheetrock, and, painted 1 ½ walls.  Who paints ½ a wall?)  The garage floor has not been started.  The brick pointing remains unfinished.  And the pointing that was done is an absolute MESS,  The brick has not been washed. The brick sealing has not been started. The 3 ceilings to seal have not been started. The hot tub roof, other cedar shingles and deck have not been washed, the staining/sealing of these have not been started, and the re-tiling of the front porch has not been started.  In addition, he chipped and scratched the new cedar railing on my deck while he was pointing brick because he didn't even bother to cover the railing.
Everyday it was another story.  Ken repeatedly told me he would be here early and either didn?t show up or came very late in the afternoon and spent most of the time on his phone.  He repeatedly told me his guys would be coming to help him.  I have yet to see anyone at my house but him. Also, the little bit of work that was done was sloppy at best.
The kicker:ONE MONTH after we signed the 2 week contract, he told me he would give me a full refund. It has been nearly 3 weeks since he offered me my money back and I still have not received this.  It is one excuse after another.  He refuses to take my calls and occasionally sends a text that the check is in the mail.  I try to call or text to ask when he mailed it and when will I get it. He doesn't answer.  All I want is for Ken Febus to keep his word for once and refund my money as he stated he would.  Ken has left me no choice but to take action on him.
This project has turned out to be quite the ordeal and an ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE!!!  Why can't people just do as they say?
Again, all I want is what Ken promised. The contract was for materials($1225) and labor($2200), half to be paid when materials were delivered and the balance at the completion of the job. I have paid him $1225+$500(labor paid early). He promised me a full refund of my money, $1725, on 7/25/15. All I want is to get this resolved ASAP so I can pay a reputable contractor to do the work and move on.

  • It went pretty well for most of the project and I'm glad we got the project done enough for us to live in the house and close out our construction loan.  Because we had a good relationship (at that time) I made the last payment ($4000) without all the work being completed.  After the final payment was made, he refused to return our calls and he never completed the work (electric in the shed and pavilion clearly outlined in our contract).  He just disappeared.   We found out later that this is his pattern; as long as there is payment outstanding, he will be in contact.  We now know several parties personally who experienced the same thing we did - if payment was made before work was completed, he just vanishes.  He is very personable and seems like a really nice person, so we were taken in like they were into thinking he would be trustworthy with our prepayment.
The quality of the work was good enough, but was not great.  Examples:  brand new roof with no drip edge (I didn't know enough to know that or to say anything, but have since heard that drip edge is not expensive and should be expected on a new roof.).  He took off the entire roof and provided the whole thing as new and it leaks.  We contacted him many times and then he finally came over and the leak stopped only to resurface again.  It was tough getting him out here for the first leak, so we didn't bother wasting our time and had a professional come and fix his work (improper flashing to chimney).  He used someone who was not a professional painter to do the painting.  Without a dropcloth and over our new hardwood floors, the person would touch up the paint and trim and splatter the new floor and would not clean it up.  High hats he installed fall out of the ceiling.  Trim work is sloppy - trim missing in some areas.  His master carpenter at that time, Dennis, was fantastic, talented and professional.  I found the rest of his staff not professional, arriving very late, leaving early and spending time trying to talk to me instead of doing work, when I am work at home and trying to get my own work done.
Bottom line - he did ok work for a good enough price.  We would never choose to use him again, which is a shame because he was reasonable in his prices.  If I knew anyone who did want to use his services I would say - do not pay a dime towards work that is not completed.  Hold out the money which would be needed to have someone else complete the job necessary to make sure he comes back to finish his work or you are protected and can have someone else finish  If you feel like you trust him enough to come when you prepay, please do not go with your gut.
