  • The exam was competent and fast. All my questions were answered. The staff is friendly and helpful. It was a very good experience. Not too much more to say about an eye exam except that I will go back again. The doctor seemed to know her stuff and the exam was thorough.

  • Dr. Stein is excellent. The cataract surgery was highly satisfactory. The office and staff are very good. Their punctuality is not a high point. He is the best in the area. He gives lectures and writes articles for his community. He is very good and knowledgeable. I would definitely use his services in the future too. In fact, I am due to go again.

  •      Updated 5/8/11. Admittedly, my  previous post was written when I was angry with the situation (too long a wait for exam to be competed despite repeated admonitions  that I had to leave soon).      Dr. Shapiro is a knowledgeable clinician.  However I have been surprised that my tear production has never been measured, despite my complaint  that my eyes seem dry most mornings.       Appointments consistently take at least 1.5 hours to complete. Despite telling the nurses that I had another appointment, was kept there for over 1.5 hours and walked out with dilated pupils and no posterior chamber exam. Nurses were totally indifferent to my complaints that it was taking too long, and that I had to leave     About  2 weeks after walking out of appointment, ~I  was called (only) after Angie's list review was read. Dr. Shapiro explained that optho exams commonly take over 1.5 hours.  I disagree, I think they should be no more than 1 hour.        Dr. Shapiro was pleasant and patient in explaining how much he cared about every patient, certainly took the time to discuss my issues with me.       I still have not received an explanation regarding  the indifference the nursing/reception staff exhibited that I had an appointment of my own, had been fully dilated for a while; leading me to walk out with unexamined posterior chamber and dilated pupils.      If you have that much time to spend for an exam, I believe his competence and bedside manner are  high, and he could be an outstanding choice for you.

  • Dr. Fern was fantastic. He took one of the most stressful times of my life and helped us through it with compassion and communication. I have reccomended him to several people ( something I don't often do). He is a true professional and far superior to the typical modern doctor.

  • Dr. Stein has been my Ophthalmologist for 20 years. I was injured and partly blinded in an accident years ago, and he has been taking care of me ever since. His main concern with me now is making sure nothing happens to my other eye. On two separate occasions, I have felt that I have gotten something in my good eye. One of these times was on the Fourth of July weekend and he was kind enough to leave his home to come meet me, using his friend s office that was nearby. He came and removed what was in my eye which gave me a scratched cornea. I thought it was so nice of him to come and take care of me on a holiday weekend. Unfortunately, the same sort of situation happened to me again and this time we met at his office where, upon examination, he determined nothing was wrong. So I of course felt terrible that I bothered him when nothing was wrong with me. But while we were there he received an emergency call that he was needed at the hospital to help a little girl. They were so glad that he was in his office and while I was in the middle of my apology he said, See something good came out of this anyway. He is a really decent, kind person and a very good Ophthalmologist.

  • The exam done by her staff went well. However, Dr. Marcelin had difficulties doing her part of the exam. The eye drops she put in my eye seemed to miss and rolled all over my face. She thought I had a tear in my retina and I was subjected to more tests. After consultation with another doctor in the office, it was dismissed. I needed a new prescription for one contact lens and when it came and I put it on, I could not see as well as the old prescription and it made me dizzy. Dr. Marcelin had to consult with another doctor again and order a new contact lens with a different Rx. This time it was corrected.
