    Westbury Plumbing Heating and Cooling
My parents are the owners of a small building located at 85 Westbury Avenue, Mineola and Westbury Plumbing has been illegally using their address and collecting mail from this address for years. Westbury Plumbing has never been nor any plumbing company has ever been a tenant at my parents' building. They are con artists. Beware!

This has been a nightmare since installation in May of 2017. After paying $9,000 here is the summary of how it went. The company uses subcontractors who quite literally took 14 hours on what should have been a 6 hour job. Multiple people on sight and they did not know what they were doing. They broke my basement window, damaged the outside gutter, left the puron hose hanging halfway down in my basement, Left a complete mess, and worse; damaged the compressor on installation only to find out that it is leaking Puron (cooling agent). Now, (one year later) I am struggling to get prioritized on their schedule to correct the situation. Eventually I am sure they will fix it.. but this has been a nightmare and I expect better service and professionalism for paying $9,000, On the plus side, the ladies on the phone are very nice.

    bauer oil company
Had an excellent experience with Bauer Oil Company. I woke up to no heat, when I went to reset furnace black smoke poured out. I immediately shut it down. I went to my phone and began search for Furnace Repair on Angies List. As I typed in the details of what occurred and my home phone I received a call from Bauer Oil Company within 2 minutes even though it was 6:30am. Their technician "Holly" arrived before 9 am and was able to complete repair, replace parts, and provide a service update on furnace in less than an hour! He was fast, courteous, and professional. The price was excellent also. I highly recommend them and would definitely use them again if needed. Thank you Holly!

Beware! Really shady business. He should state up front that he charges (exorbitantly no less) for estimates or consultations. The experience I had with Howard Linzer, the owner of Pro Mechanical Plumbing, has taught me to always read all the reviews and not just look at the rating. I made an appointment with Howard for him to inspect and run tests on a heating unit in a small warehouse so my new tenant can get a copy of a certificate that National Grid needs in order for the tenant to have an account. Over the phone, Howard quoted me $600 before his 5% Angie's List discount but in person wanted $650 cash or credit card just to start and that was with the 5% discount. Unfortunately, due to an extreme family emergency, which I didn't know about until after Howard arrived, my tenant hasn't gotten to having electricity hooked up. There is no way to conduct an inspection much less run tests since there's no electricity. Howard was at the small warehouse for 10 minutes maximum, if that, and spent most of that time asking my dad and me a number of questions that had nothing to do with the business at hand, such as "where are you from? (my dad has an accent)," "what other properties do you own?,"where do you live?" (I have a 212 cell phone number), etc. I'm going to law school so I'm able to give the legal definition of the term, "inspection." Nothing close to an inspection was done unless he counts interrogating us with meaningless questions which my dad and I didn't want. I also had someone on the phone listening and they couldn't believe what was happening. Howard demanded $206.50 not for a deposit but just for showing up! He then remained on our parking lot arguing with my frail elderly dad and me (with a bad case of flu) about how his "time is valuable and (he) could be with (his) family" and that he had no intention of returning to do an inspection, run tests and provide a certificate! Newsflash to Howard: everyone's time is valuable not just yours. Things got rather heated (no pun intended) on his end and I'm thankful that my tenant's workers arrived when they did prompting him to leave.

My husband called Pat with the expectation of making an appointment. After learning the issue, Pat took the time to assist us over the phone and even asked my husband to send pictures to better assess the situation. After twenty or thirty minutes and no fix in sight, Pat said that he could stop by to take a look in just two days. He was very knowledgable and professional. He explained everything to us and fixed the issue in less than an hour! Pat even gave us additional home improvement advice at no charge. Thanks Pat!

I called and set an appointment. They stated they would call back to confirm exact arrival time. The approximate arrival time went by so I called, they said they couldn't make it. I said ok, we set a FIRM appointment time for 2 days later. Guess what, they never called and they never showed to the appointment. I never bothered to call back. Really everyone I spoke to on the phone made it seem like they were doing me a favor. I have since contracted with another Angies list AC/Heating company for a 17k job... There loss...

    A-1 PLUMBING & HEATING
This is the second time we've hired Nick and his assistant. As usual, everything went well and they even responded to an extra last-minute request-very helpful and considerate. They both are very Professional and Nick explains the work as he goes along., highly recommended! Good price, too.

Howie came and confirmed that I was getting gas into the system and the pilot would only light when the button was held down.  He ended up having to replace the pilot assembly, sensor, and tube.  The new tube is about double the thickness of the old one.
After getting the boiler working, he showed me the different parts of my heating system and explained what the different parts did.  While doing that, he checked my system and noticed my system had very low pressure.  He explained what that meant (cold radiators on the top floor is an effect - which I had), a simple fix, and what the worst case scenario could be.
I got out of work relatively early today and bought a couple of radiator keys, I bled out the air from the radiators on the top floor, allowed more water into the system by slowly opening up the pressure reducing valve by the boiler supply pipe to bring it up to 15 PSI, and all the radiators are now hot!

    Steve's Appliance Repair
Quick update here, just called him again to fix the old GE washing machine in my new place. Again, he showed me exactly what was broken and opted to repair what was there rather than needless replace parts. He was very friendly and fast. Will definitely use him again!

(Old review, from 11/17/2013, cost: $160)
He called when he was on his way, he was friendly and showed me everything he was going to do before he did it. Knowing I found him here he gave me a discount. He replaced the belt on the dryer, cleaned it and fixed a detached vent. He ultimately charged less than the original estimate when all was said and done and just asked I write this review.

After some delay, all work listed above, once started, was done quickly and professionally. Mike, the owner, supervised all stages and made several visits to inspect the work and make recommendations to his men. He did the final system testing himself, walked me through the operation of the system and made recommendations on placement of CO and smoke detectors as required by code.
His office manager, Diane, is highly organized and a pleasure to work with.
