    Build Right
We are very pleased with the floor installation done by Build Right. This involved removing an existing vinyl floor and installing a new one. I'd just like to note a couple of places where Matt went above and beyond what might be considered normal: 1) During the estimating process, we indicated that we might not stay in the house for more than 5 years, and Matt was very clear about how we might save some money on the installation, even though this meant less money in his pocket. 2) When I decided to replace some aging radiator covers on my own (which Matt did not recommend) and got into trouble, Matt stepped up and helped me out of a difficult installation. Then, when a leak developed from the baseboard heaters and partially flooded our basement, Matt cam back and cleaned up the mess. That's going above and beyond. We are very happy with this job and will consider them for any future work.

The Works Home Improvement Co, Inc.
The initial demolition and Prep went very well with contractor and staff, very respectful of home with his crew. Work was initially finished as expected as the basement looked really good when they finished. Unfortunately after time, numerous imperfections, nail pops, areas that were missed, started appearing due to poor prep and workmanship. It was later found discovered that due to the demolition, vibration, and activity in the basement caused a HVAC ductwork to separate and leak water/condensation into the new Sheetrock (had to be removed). This was was all verified by our separate, independent HVAC professional who confirmed it in writing that it was caused by carelessness of the contractor. Contractor came back attempted to refinish with Sheetrock, did the initial prep work and never came back! Other issues are still appearing as more imperfections and poor workmanship is still being noticed 6 months after the construction. Contractor offered no warranty or remedy for poor workmanship.

Chris was very professional...showed up on time for the estimate and was very fair. He helped us with the color selection which we love! His crew also showed up on time and were very friendly. When they completed the floors we were delighted with them. They came out so nice it looked like we installed all new flooring! You could barely tell they were there as there was almost no dust left in our home!! All I can say is if you need your hardwood floors refinished these are the guys to use! You will not be disappointed!!

    Selective Sculptures
We had been to a number of tile stores including Selective Sculptures. We must have been back to them at least 3 or 4 times and Brian was always courteous and helpful. After all of the leg work we decided on a Sorrento Beige tile that was in the store. Brian made us a deal that we couldn't refuse. Two weeks later the job was started. The contractor showed up on time every day and worked neatly and professionally. They sealed off the kitchen cabinets and the adjoining rooms so none of the dust or debris from the demolition entered those rooms. The crew that did the work Max, Giacomo and Jose did a super job of removing, installing and cleaning up the site. The finished tiles came out beautiful, straight, square and level. PERFECT!!

The owner, Paul, does all work himself and is a true perfectionist.  If you are looking to enhance the value of your house, he is the man to hire.  As a real estate broker, I have seen many new homes and refinishing jobs, but none meet the standards of this company.  As a matter of fact, one homeowner did it himself and it cost him $25,000 in resale value because he created ?waves? in all of the oak floors of a $700,000 home!

All  sanding is 98% ?dustless? and the residue is collected, as it is generated, and flows through hoses connected to a large sealed drum located outside the house.  This is important because breathing the dust has unidentified health risks; especially to the lungs.

100% of the floors were sanded by large and small sanders which were connected to the dustless system.  This included the main floor areas, under all of the h/w radiators and inside the closets.  All corners, even in the closets, were hand scraped.

Next, the area was thoroughly vacuumed and the sealer and one coat of finish was applied.  The floors were re-sanded, followed by more vacuuming and the additional coats of finish were applied.  (Only environmentally safe finishes are used and the one I specified is a premier one.)

If quality doesn?t matter or you are looking for a low price or a quick job, don?t bother with this company.  On the other hand, if you want to preserve, or even enhance the value of your home, I would recommend that you give Paul a call. Also, if you want to speak to me about his work, send an email, with your phone number, to and I will be happy to call you.

I have had dozens of contractors in my house over the past 15 years.  I have NEVER met anyone like Bruce Distler of Start to Finish Construction.  Not only is he reliable, but also he is extremely professional and meticulous.  He is currently re-doing my downstairs but he has done work in my house for the past 5 years.  My experience is consistent with the majority of the comments on this website that highlight the fantastic quality of this guy's work.  He and his crew get things done the RIGHT way.  For the current job, as in the past, his estimate was dead-on accurate.  In fact, Bruce found ways for us to save MONEY.  Who does this?  No one.  I was very appreciative of his honesty.  Bruce is knowledgeable about design, planning and construction.  He helped me come up with a great plan for my kitchen, dining room, family room and living room.  He worked harmoniously with his team.  He was always courteous and approachable. When he said he would start at 8 am, he was there EXACTLY on time.  He and his guys went OVER and BEYOND, as they had to patch and replace things in my walls leftover from a prior contractor.  He thought nothing of staying later HIMSELF to make sure walls were prepped for painting.  He is extremely neat and always made sure my house was clean including my mahogany floors!  He never gave us pressure with regard to payment and made the entire experience a great one.  Just as I was losing faith in contractors on Long Island, we found Bruce.   The experience in working with this guy has been extremely satisfying.  I am very pleased of the final product, as are visitors to my house who ask about the renovations.  I am proud to give them Bruce Distler's business card because I know they will be happy as well.

    Alfonsi Construction LLC

The demolition of the bathroom and fireplace was handled in an extraordinarily neat and orderly way. Plastic was put up to section off the house and keep the dust down, and at the end of every day Billy vacuumed the entire area.  Because of the way Dean and Billy resurfaced the area above and around the fireplace, it is very easy to see where we are getting water in.... and (after the leak is fixed) rebuilding a new fireplace will be their next job with me! The new wall section in the dining room is a perfect match to the existing knock-down texture on the rest of the wall, the beam looks like it was always there, ....and my new bathroom is simply gorgeous in spite of one problem. Since  I was on a very tight schedule, Dean hired a sub-contractor to do the tile work in the bathroom while he did the demolition of the fireplace. In the end, the tile work was not up to my expectations, nor to the standards of Alfonsi Construction. Dean had the tile guy come back to review what was done, and it was agreed that corrections will be made. Alfonsi Construction stands behind everything they do, and I know they will make it right. If I had not been on such a tight schedule, Dean and Billy would have done the tile work ....and I know, based on everything else they did, that then it would have been perfect.  The electrician and plumber were also subcontracted out, and they did an excellent job.

Alfonsi Construction went above and beyond all expectations. They arrived on time (or even a little early) everyday and worked until they finished what needed to get done.  At the end of each day, Dean would walk me through what was accomplished, and what the plan of action would be for the next day.

On top of all of this, Dean and Billy are two of the most personable tradesmen I've ever hired. It's not possible to overstate how important it is to have pleasant contractors who obviously enjoy their work come to your home and do a job as you envisioned it.
I highly recommend Alfonsi Construction, and will be using them again in the future.

    Grand Improvements & Construction
He was done pretty much on time, which was important as my mother was coming home from rehab on a certain date. During the work he made a couple of recommendations that improved the outcome of the job. I would use his service again.

The work didn't start until a few weeks after we were told it would when we got the estimate. That wasn't a big deal. The carpet was done in one day and looks fine. They guys who put it in were professional and courteous. The owner himself did the laminate flooring. He did not come when he said he would, talked non-stop on his cell phone, took 7 days (over weeks) to do a job we were told would be done in two days. Meanwhile we are living with the piano in the kitchen and taking off work to let him in the house. And the carpet installers had to come back and fix his mistakes with the molding.

    Decks by Decker Home Improvements
The work done was fast, excellent, and everything (trim, doors) was put back properly. Tile work was great, all straight lines, no cracks, squeaks on floor, etc.
