    Sclafmore Construction, LLC.
We hired Sclafmore to redo our garage roof and build a large deck for us. The long and short of it is that Sclafmore did an outstanding job and that my wife and I are extremely happy with the results. Sclafmore sent a team of 4 guys - Steve (the foreman) Andrew, Kenny, and Michael - and they were all GREAT. Super nice to be around, courteous to a fault, and really good at what they do. I work mostly in the evenings, so I was able to stay home most days and watch everything that they did over the course of a month. And I have to say that they were very meticulous and showed great attention to detail in each and every task they performed. After the work was over we actually missed having them around! I also have to add that Sclafmore confidently took on this job that at least one other contractor seemed intimidated by. I liked that. If I have any gripe its that I feel that some of the negotiating could have been a little easier. We decided to go with a cheaper wood than what was in the original estimate and the new price given didnt nearly fully reflect the actual savings in materials, and I really didn't like how much I had to bump heads to finally get the price adjusted properly. So in the end, there was more push and pull than I would care for, but I would use them again and can confidently recommend them.

I called the company because I saw their special offer in Angie's list of two days masonry work for a little less than $600. I asked them when they could come to see the work and close the deal and THEY SET THE APPOINTMENT FOR 3PM THE NEXT DAY. THE NEXT DAY I WAITED FOR THEM FROM 3PM TO 6PM BUT THEY NEVER SHOWED UP NEITHER DID THEY CALL TO EXPLAIN THEIR NON APPEARANCE NOR RESET THE APPOINTMENT. TO THIS DAY JUNE  24 I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THEM>THEY ARE VERY UNPROFESSIONAL AND INCONSIDERATE OF OTHER PEOPLE. NO WONDER THEY CHARGE ONLY $600! IF I WAS NOT GOING TO SHOW UP I MY PRICE WOULD BE ONE DOLLAR!!!! THEY DO NOT DESERVE THE A RATING ON ANGIE'S LIST.

    City Suburb, Inc.

Good weather helped move the project along.  Ryan, the man in charge, was always available when I called him, which is an extremely rare thing and a tremendous help.  His men are skilled, and very hard working, arriving by 8 am and not leaving before 6 pm for 5 straight days.  His workers never abused meal breaks, and worked very hard all day long.

City Suburb is not the least expensive nor the most expensive contractor we interviewed, falling just about midway in the quote department.  I strongly recommend them and feel that going the cheapest route will not be advantageous.  Just the simple fact that Ryan answers his phone 9 out of every ten times I called instilled tremendous confidence in their services.

The job went well. They did everything they said they would do and anything I asked of them.  I couldn't be more pleased with the job.  The only thing I would like are pictures of the roof. The young man said he would email them but they may have gone to the wrong email?

We are having problems with water running down the inside walls whenever we have a bad rain.  Jimmy came and took a look at the problem.  He definitely knows what he is doing.  He saw that even though the house is only 3 years old, the contractor used bad brick and grout.  He gave us our best chance of stopping the water without rebuilding the whole brick face of the house.  He was very honest about this solution maybe not fixing the problem but gave us the choice.  Other contractors wanted to do even less and were telling us it would work.  I work in the construction industry and had friends look at it and they agreed with Jimmy.  Those other guys were blowing smoke.  Jimmy was very involved in the work as it was going on and his workers were very professional and neat.  The work is just finished and there hasn't been any rain yet so time will tell if we need to do alot more.  In the meantime, the house even looks alot better.

He was quick to respond to our first email and came over and gave us an estimate.  He was professional and had good ideas for our renovation.  His price was competitive to other contractors we interviewed.  We choose him due to his fair price and his likable personality.
He gave us a time frame of about 2-3 weeks for our basement.   However the project lasted over 6 months and there are still uncompleted parts.  We have stopped asking him to finish the basement after multiple attempts at trying to find a day his crew could come over.
The other big issue was the lack of continuous work.  At the most we had some one working in our basement 2 days out the week.  The other days there would be no one there.  we constantly had to call/email/text Mike that we have not had anyone in our basement for a few days.  He would always send someone the next day, but that would not carry on to the following days.   Our project lasted 6 months mostly because we had true work being completed maybe ten percent of the time.
There was problems with the workmanship.  We had a gas leak.  Our doors were uneven after they had to be cut down to fit the frame  The molding on the floor has cracks from where one piece was attempted to be connected to another.  The grout in the bathroom had spread onto the tiles and we are still trying to remove it without damaging the tiles.  We had our boiler put into a closet, but found out later that it was covered up to the point that it cannot be serviced.  the sink in the bathroom drains poorly.  Our new contractor informed us that the wiring in the ceiling is not up to code.  Both our front and back doors are poorly sealed and we are regularly having to kill bugs that crawl in through the gaps.   when he felt the project was complete we still had a large amount of building material that sat in our backyard and was too much to put on the curb for pickup.
He is a smooth talker and at times dishonest.  as one example, Mike told us that our tile was bought and picked up but then when we went to the store to purchase other tiles we found out he never bought the other tiles and had not picked them up.
He is a nice guy, pleasant to talk to and for this reason we actually held off on writing a review knowing that it might hurt his business.  That changed recently when one of the cabinets that was installed, came off the wall crashing down on certain items and breaking multiple things.  This turned out to be the straw that broke the back.
There were some things that we did love about the project and those are the drains that we have.  He placed a larger drain in both front and back and they were done to our satisfaction.  We later found out that his expertise is in masonry and not interior work which explained a lot about the rest of the project.
Overall I am displeased with his workmanship and I would not recommend his service to anyone.

Update after response:    It is very unfortunate that Mike remembers our project in this way.  We did not we ask to change something that was complete.   We did ask multiple times that things be fixed as there were numerous imperfections and poor craftsmanship throughout the project.  We did however ask for an addition during the middle of the project which was a door from our garage.
The reason we went back to the tile store was to pick out the tile for the bathroom.  The tile that was supposed to have been purchased and picked up was for our main floor.  Mike told us he would buy and pick up the tile and we would reimburse him.  Why would we pick up tile?  Our car cannot carry so much material.  If it was our responsibility then why did Mike ultimately buy and deliver the tile?
We understand that the boiler closet was our idea but as the client I should not be expected to have the knowledge that such a design would close off and prevent any further repairs.  This is when an expert would tell us no, it cannot be done, or find a solution.  We were not in any rush when this project began, which is true, but when a 3 week project has expanded to 3 months and then 6 months, we did start to feel a desire for a little timelier finish.  I understand that most projects do not finish on time but thats due to unforeseen issues.  Our delay was due to having a person working in our basement only 2 days out of the week for a majority of our project.
Please look at the review placed on Nov 21, 2013, in the last paragraph of the updated portion, where they also mentioned concern for their cabinets coming off the wall.   Although they felt their cabinets would have fallen off if the project continued, ours unfortunately did.
Our interactions with Mike were a positive one for most of the project and we originally never intended to write a review for him as we knew it was only disparaging remarks and we liked him enough that we did not want to do that to him or his company.  But when we lost priceless family items when our cabinet came off the wall we felt we needed to let others know about our experience.  I wish Mike all the best in his career.

Mik was incredibly responsive........and I appreciate that aspect of his business. All of the work performed was extremely well done with attention to detail continually present!!!! Mik was honest, his prices were extremely competetive and his men were hard working. Time schedules were on time and when adjustments were needed, Mik was always willing to work with you.
    Cleanup of debris was amazing!
I couldn't be happier with the work they performed and Mik's attention to the client!
Mik is HONEST.....something difficult to find in this industry.
    Thank you MIK!!!!!

to be a success. The job lasted three full days.  Jimmy, the owner of Knockout, assured me that 3 workers would be dedicated to my job and he kept his word.  They arrived at approximately 7:30 a.m. everyday and they worked until approximately 4:00 everyday.  Jimmy also appeared everyday and oversaw the job from start until finish.  They were very neat and they took all debris with them upon completion.  Although we haven't had any rain for the past two weeks, Jimmy told me to contact him if I need anything.  I feel pretty confident that my leaks are history now.  I'd recommend their company.

The work was performed as requested. and the quality of workmanship was good for the most part. There were a few small items that I asked be changed and they changed them all. I would use them again, but the next time I will spend more time to add clearer language to the contract. The one item I thought should be fixed because it was not done to my satisfaction (temporary roof flashing) was not addressed due to ambiguous contract language. You live and learn.
I gave them an an overall "B" due to this one issue. I would use them again.

The workers came on time, had all equipment needed, began work immediately and were finished in a couple of hours. They were professional, knowledgeable, efficient, and they cleaned up after they were finished.   Highly recommend them.
