  • Mike and his crew were excellent. I had several things done throughout my home and was very happy that they came earlier than scheduled. The job took approx. 5hrs. Drop clothes were placed throughout the house so that the floors were not damaged. The crew of three were all business, each had specific jobs to perform, and were a good team. The price was fair and was priced by the job not by the hour.

  • Bill Wiener is an able and accomplished professional technician. He comes with a well equipped truck and is a very good diagnostician. He installed the church's three boilers which was a total replacement for the 50 year old boiler that  was a very large project indeed. Last year he removed and then installed four new air conditioning units. This was also a major undertaking and it was handled quite well. Bill and company had to fabricate and mate the new technology and a/c units into the original air handling equipment. As the property committee chairman,I am quite comfortable with Bill and he always explains exactly what he needs to do and how he is going to go about it. I find his prices quite reasonable for the work that he performs.

  • I had no problem with them.  They came back when there were issues.  Everybody was able to speak english and understand what I was saying.  They were clean; when they left I didn't know they had been there.  Their prices were high but both the air conditioning system and the water heater along with their services were top of the line.  You get what you pay for.

  • During cold weather with both heating plant circulators running lack of hot water for a shower became noticeable -- time to clean the boiler immersion coil! Quotation was $94 for coil cleaning and $94 for cleaning of associated piping. The immersion coil had no connection points, which proved no problem -- technician used clothing washer CW line for his equipment connection and the bathtub to dump the dirty water. No problems, everything worked fine. As far as cleaning of remaining piping, it was not required as there was very little cross-contamination -- no clogged faucets, which could have been flushed of solids after temporary removal of their aerators.

  • There were issues as far as workmanship is concerned. The new water heater is working, but they replaced the water heater with the control panels facing the back wall. So basically you don't even see it. When I enquired why this was done the excuse they gave me was that the pipes were turned a certain way and they would have to cut them to turn them around. This kind of conversation should have taken place way before the job was finished. This happened when I started inspecting the job and they were ready to give me the invoice. The guy was in a rush and he just said that's the way it is and that most people would like to have the panel turned to the back, so that they can use this room as a storage container and whatever you put into it doesn't bump into the controller. I said that is a ridiculous statement. Why would I want to have a control panel facing the back wall where I can't see it? They should discuss the job they are going to do before they install anything and then inform the home owner that's the way it is. I think the professionalism comes into question. If you are charging top dollar, which they are, you should make your best effort to explain and try to follow some sort of industry standards, whatever they are. The control panel has to be facing forward, not backward. I would imagine that this is in violation of some sort of a basic code. So I would warn Angie's List members to be more careful in choosing who they are going to hire to replace a water heater. The price was higher than the market average. The water heater works, my house is not on fire after they finished their work and I guess I just had to talk it over with them before they start the job next time. I would probably use them again for something, but just be a little more hands on.

  • I have to take them small claims court. They installed a boiler and they forgot to put a regulator on the boiler and the owner who came to sign the contract didn't want to honor you know make the boiler safe so I had to take a small claims court to get it resolve. Their reason was their guy they said to do the install said his father passed away and he had to go collect his father's ashes and now leave and you know it's a joke I would never use them again. We should remember it because when went to small claims court we should make the court and wait them to get the out of there because we agreed afterwards to get it resolve you know to small claims court so and it was the son not father. Like I said it was 10 years ago and I looked at their rating you know just recently they may have like a and ldquo;Band rdquo; rating so it looks like they've really change much.

  • The staff at Universe Appliance Repairs is great. I would say more than great. The owner is more intrested in keeping the customer happy than making money. They came to my house and gave me a quote that covered the whole job. I was given few dates for the conversion and they were right on money. My oil tank was leaking and I had to get the conversion done ASAP. Universe came through. I dealt with Cathy in the office. She is very knowlegable and professional. She actually corrected a very important error that could have derailed the schedule. The technical staff is very knowlegable and pleasent. Ed, Erick, Victor, Dan, Paul, Damon and many others (I apologize I am forgetting some names) were great. They did a clean Job. There was a issue with installing a stainless chimney liner in the chimney and Bill Powell the owner took upon himself and took care of it. Sales person told me I didn't need the stainless chimney liner for sure and it turned out that it was a requirement. As I said before the ower is more intrested in keeping the clients. I would strongly recomend Universe. If you want to get a job done right and not lose sleep over it then Universe is the right place. All in all great service.

  • They were very neat and they did an excellent job. We put in a new boiler it had to be installed by the authorized personnel. I do a lot of pipe work so I asked them to leave it here so that I can install it but they said no and they installed it. Their price was very good. They said that it will take four days to complete the work but they finished it in two and a half days.

  • Two guys arrived in a timely fashion and spent about 45-60 minutes on annual tuneup for furnace and boiler. They were very thorough in my estimation and system seems to be humming nicely.
