    Artisan Renovations
I never write reviews outside my Amazon purchases and have had many contractors to my home over the years and I can honestly say that Artisan Renovations just delivered in every way on this assignment, Their attention to detail and determination to finish the project on time with the highest quality outcome was impressive. The deck turned out better than we had hoped and we could not be more pleased with our dealing with Artisan. This is a AAA contractor with an impressive and rare work ethic. We could not be happier with the work done and quality of the finished deck.

We could not be more satisfied with the quality and workmanship by Usee Builders. Frank the owner provided a design to our concepts of the replacement deck as we were increasing the size and adding additional deck space. His combination of the deck and patio pavers resulted in a stunning space. We now spend more time outside than we do inside. His valued creative input and recommendations resulted in a deck and outdoor space that exceeded our expectations. It's evident he takes great pride in delivering outstanding results, the work and materials was of high quality, schedule was met as originally presented and adjustments to budget (changes on behalf of owner :-) ) were priced appropriately.

    DiMartino Construction & Remodeling
The contractor was friendly and professional. He provided us with the second lowest bid. The wood he used to build the deck was very knotty and started causing splinters immediately. The railing around the deck is coming apart. Some of the wood he used also warped and twisted within a month of installation. He was quick to get the wood replaced and installed. We found his worker missed some screws and the contractor sent someone back to complete the job. The person who came missed one and we contacted the contractor. He asked for a picture and I sent it via text. I have not heard from him in some time, and assume he is not going to fix this last item. We recently had problems with our dryer and discovered that the contractor removed our dryer vent cover and put another on, but forced it to fit which has been causing lint build-up. It looks like the workers has something on hand and forcably made it work (poorly). Since I could not get the last screw replaced, I am dealing with this poor workmanship issue myself.

    Artisan Renovations
In April 2016, I signed a contract with Artisan Renovations to build a deck for my new home. The project was completed on June 7, 2016. The reason I came here and wrote review comments one year later is that I hope I could write a more objective review comments some time after the project was completed. Before I made up my mind, I did lots of research trying to find a good contractor to build my deck (my home was built and purchased in September 2013 without a deck). Finally I choose Artisan Renovations based on the good ratings in Angieslist. The project was to build a 266 square foot deck (19ft by 14ft) with pressure treated boards and white vinyl rail. The total cost for this project is $6799.06 (original price is $6719.06. But after the contract was signed, I requested some change - upgrade to hidden screw deck board installation, which costs extra $80). I paid a down payment 40% before the project started and paid the rest after the project was completed. Artisan Renovations provided one-year warranty for materials and installation. I would like to summarize my review comments as follows. Pros: 1) Doug Marquart, the owner of Artisan Renovations, is an easygoing guy. Overall it is a pleasure to work with him. 2) Unlike other contractors, Doug did the entire project by himself. Only a few times, his son helped him, for example unloading and moving deck boards from truck to my back yard. 3) Most of the time his response to my email or phone message was quick. Cons: 1) After the deck building was done, I noticed that some deck boards had some grooves/cracks. I requested Doug to replace some deck boards with major grooves/cracks. He agreed and replaced some of them, but most of them still had noticeable grooves/cracks. I am not sure if this is common or not for a new deck. Maybe I am too picky. 2) Hidden screws were not really hidden. Most of them were visible. So I guess Doug may not have sufficient experience and skills in building a deck with hidden screws. This issue will be addressed again in the comments below. 3) About one week after the deck was completed, some green mildew was growing on some deck boards after a rain storm. I sent a email message to Doug and asked him if he could replace those boards. Several days later, he came and replaced some of them. 4) Three months later, many big cracks were observed in areas where the hidden screws were located. I asked Doug if he could fix those issues and he agreed. But what he did was a little disappointing. He "fixed" those issues just poking visible nails into the cracked deck boards from top surface. The beauty of the hidden deck boards were totally lost. 5) In order to build the deck, Doug adjusted and re-installed some sidings of my house. Last December, some sidings at deck-to-wall joints were loose after a snow storm. I was worrying that water may get into my wall and foundation and causes my house structure rot. I sent an email message to Doug and asked him if he could fix this issue and he responded with "yes". But several months passed, he did not show up. Doug is a very nice guy. Personally I enjoyed working with him very much. But objectively speaking, I think his work and service still do not reach to a "A" level yet (maybe I am too picky) considering so many issues/concerns occurred during and after the deck building project. I hope he can continue improving so his service can benefit other customers.

    Artisan Renovations
We had Doug remodel a small bathroom and our kitchen.  He did a fantastic job and we couldn't be more pleased with the results.  He is extremely professional and has a great work ethic.  He arrived at our house every day by 8:30am and was usually still here when I got home from work at 5pm.  He has great attention to detail and makes sure that everything is exactly the way you want it  He also was very quick to let me know if there was something that was going to change the cost of the job.
I would hire him again in a heart beat.

    Affordable Solutions by Brian
Absolutely wonderful experience.  I had been looking for someone for help with these projects and kept being told that they were too "small."  I called Brian and he responded immediately.  He visited the property shortly after that to assess the situation and said he was happy to help out.  We brainstormed about how to accomplish what I was looking for on the screened porch.   His solution was better than anything I had imagined!   He and his co-worker finished the projects in a few hours.  The work was impeccable.  In addition, I truly appreciate that Brian was very honest about the high cost of plexi-glass (which I definitely wanted for safety/weight reasons), and that he looked around to get the best possible price that he could.  I look forward to hiring Brian and Affordable Solutions whenever I need something done around the house!

    McClurg Remodeling
The entire process was extremely professional. We discussed the projects and received an estimate, were kept informed about the expected timeline for the start of the project. The lead carpenter and the painter worked quickly and professionally, and kept us informed. Will definitely use the company again.

They did a fabulous job. It was a great service. They had great communication and quality craftsmanship. They didn't want to take any money until we were completely satisfied with the job. It was quite an expensive job. They were reliable. They did what they said they would do.

Two porches were replaced, one in the front of the house and one in the rear.  The porch in the rear of the house came out beautifully.  The one in front, however, is pitched toward the house and is currently leaking into the basement.  There had been a leak there previously (many years ago), but it was resolved until O'Toole worked on the porch.  Additionally, the porch (which sits over the basement) was finished using 5/4" decking, at the recommendation of Mr. Patrick O'Toole.  Mr. O'Toole was very pleasant until confronted about this issue, when he stated, "We only used the 5/4" decking because you specifically asked for it".  That was very simply a lie.  I didn't even know what 5/4" decking was until Patrick suggested it.  In fact, the carpenter himself told me that he couldn't understand why Patrick wanted to use 5/4" decking but used it "because he's the boss".  Patrick then told me that he only used the 5/4" decking because he didn't realize there was a basement underneath.  Again untrue.  Patrick saw the basement for himself and knew that it was directly beneath the porch.  He is unwilling to replace these boards with properly pitched tongue-and-groove boards (the industry standard for such a porch and the same product he used on the porch in the back of the house).  I am currently working with the BBB about resolving this issue and unfortunately may end up having to take legal action.

Excellent. There are no don'ts. He did everything I asked even when I changed things. Very helpful with suggestions. Reliable and professional. I have referred him to another friend who was very satisfied with his work and will use him again this summer.
