Contacted thru ANgies List and made appointment for an estimate. No show. Tried again... scheduled for 4:30. Got a message after 1:30 asking to change it to 3:30 because they were finished early on another job. I was over an hour away at an appointment, so I let them know I couldnt get there by 3:30. Also asked if they were still on for 4:30 as agreed. No response. Hurried through my business and arrived home at 4:15... never showed, never called. I suspect the job wasnt big enough. If they had said that I would understand and look elsewhere. Wasted my time and delayed start of project while I gave them opportunities to meet.

I asked Brian to come out and provide and estimate on several projects for my older home.  He provided reasonable estimates quickly, including an estimate for a larger job which I told him right up front I was not doing immediately but wanted to have an idea of what it would cost. He also gave me suggestions for items for which I was not sure about the best approach. The estimates were reasonable - the electrical work was much lower than I expected.
I had him complete the basement windows and electrical work.  He came within two weeks of my acceptance of the estimates, and finished the work in one day.  The basement windows were installed and sealed, with new framing, and the old electrical was capped off and new fixtures installed. He and his workmen were professional, efficient, and cleaned up after themselves completely.  I have a long wish-list on my older home, and will be calling him again for further work.

The entire process was extremely professional. We discussed the projects and received an estimate, were kept informed about the expected timeline for the start of the project. The lead carpenter and the painter worked quickly and professionally, and kept us informed. Will definitely use the company again.

Two porches were replaced, one in the front of the house and one in the rear.  The porch in the rear of the house came out beautifully.  The one in front, however, is pitched toward the house and is currently leaking into the basement.  There had been a leak there previously (many years ago), but it was resolved until O'Toole worked on the porch.  Additionally, the porch (which sits over the basement) was finished using 5/4" decking, at the recommendation of Mr. Patrick O'Toole.  Mr. O'Toole was very pleasant until confronted about this issue, when he stated, "We only used the 5/4" decking because you specifically asked for it".  That was very simply a lie.  I didn't even know what 5/4" decking was until Patrick suggested it.  In fact, the carpenter himself told me that he couldn't understand why Patrick wanted to use 5/4" decking but used it "because he's the boss".  Patrick then told me that he only used the 5/4" decking because he didn't realize there was a basement underneath.  Again untrue.  Patrick saw the basement for himself and knew that it was directly beneath the porch.  He is unwilling to replace these boards with properly pitched tongue-and-groove boards (the industry standard for such a porch and the same product he used on the porch in the back of the house).  I am currently working with the BBB about resolving this issue and unfortunately may end up having to take legal action.

average job that grew as it progressed.  Jim Welsh is without a doubt one of the best, most detail oriented Carpenters I have met.  Window measurements were wrong and needed replacement, Pella door was wrong - all corrected.

    BOB RYDER PAINTING
Bob Ryder was engaged initially to paint the exterior of our house, with all the preliminary work of power washing, scraping, sanding any loose paint, etc, as well as any needed shake replacement, some trim carpentry work, as well as two storm door installations. Painting, and its prep work were never started.

Some exterior shakes were replaced, however one shake is cracked, and there remains too wide a gap on some of the corners in the front of the house.  No one ever came back to fix them. Needless to say, they were never painted.

Our Lawson storm door was removed in the process of replacing the trim around it.  Besides the fact that the door was not reattached to fit perfectly flush as it had done originally, and does not close evenly anymore. a portion of the outside vinyl bottom trim was torn, leaving a hole under the door, and concrete crack, which no one returned to remedy.

We had Bob Ryder specifically measure for two Anderson storm doors so that it would be exact, and when an attempt was made to install the door I was advised by Bob that it was the wrong size, and too small to fit the opening. Bob returned it to Home Depot, and he was told that it was his mistake in measuring the door itself, instead of the opening space size.  The doors were not returnable.  His carpenter had great difficulty, and Bob said that the carpenter could not read the installation instructions.

When the second Anderson storm door was being installed, which was also was too small, and an unsightly filler with some holes it it was placed  on either sides of the door.  The adjustment that the carpenter made to the framing resulted in insufficient space for the door handle to pass through in order to close.  He proceeded to hammer at the frame, and then hacked a jagged hole into it so the door might close, although it still caught a bit.  When I expressed concern, he said he would bring a file the next day and smooth it a bit so "we would not cut our fingers."  It's unbelievable that any responsible carpenter would do such exceptionally poor, and totally unacceptable work that actually damaged a new frame, This door installation was never completed, and is left in a deplorable state.

We were repeated assured that they would be returning to power wash the house so they could begin painting.  The power washer had been left in our garage, and we were told they would be using it for us the following week, however, they never did, and we were surprised when instead Bob removed it on May 31st. We have not seen him since that date.

I phoned Bob to let him know that the replacement storm door screen that they damaged had come in from Home Depot, and he said he would pick it up.  I made a second phone call a week later to tell him Home Depot had called again.  He never responded to my voice mail, and never picked up the screen.

We have made repeated phone calls to Bob Ryder's cell phone, and left messages expressing concern, and requesting call backs.  My last message was on his home phone on June 17th, but Bob Ryder has not given us the courtesy of a return call, and we are left with damage, incomplete door installation, repairs that need to be addressed, and a house that has not been painted.   It would appear the Bob Ryder has broken his contract by leaving this unfinished job, not even starting the painting process, and not returning any of our phone calls.

Crew arrived on day scheduled. Removed old roof, found metal roof under old part of house. Removed all materials to dumpster. Had Porta Potti on site, so no need to disturb us as they worked. No problems with work and I would highly recommend. Price was less than quoted.
