Just had the best experience with Mr. ChimneyMan. The owner, David, just left. I wanted him to inspect and clean our three fireplaces, as we recently purchased the house. He was punctual, professional, and helpful. He inspected all three units and determined that none of them actually needed cleaning. He explained the best way to use each one. The cost was quite reasonable. He could have needlessly cleaned them and charged me; I appreciated his honesty and would not hesitate to recommend him.

Phil and his crew were professional, tidy, and fun to have around. Obviously take pride in their work. My old chimneys were leaking water into the house. He tore both down and rebuilt with stones from my stream. lovely copper caps were the finishing touch. He gave me estimates for all work which I approved. Very good to work with them.

    Treelanders Tree Service LLC
Last year I purchased 4 cords of firewood and was pleased with the product. This year I purchased 2 chords to add to what was left over from last year and the firewood was TERRIBLE. A very heavy percentage was extremely small pieces, like kindling packages that you would see at the grocery store. This wood will burn very fast and will be virtually useless. Less than 10% of the load was what I would consider to be normal sized fire logs. For th price this is a VERY poor quality product, I would never purchase from them again.

David was very thorough during estimate, asking questions and giving advice about many areas of concern after foundation was damaged by many years of water issues. He prioritized items that were most important. Workers were prompt and friendly, even careful with my two young children around the house, sharing ice cream with them during a lunch break. David took pictures took the chimney so I could see what was being done close up. Job looks good and site was cleaned up throughly, including a repair of an accidentally broken window without a complaint. We'd definitely use again.

    Hearth & Home of Syracuse
Just to be clear, this a review of Hearth & Home, but in order to put my remarks in context it will be helpful to note the problems found when shopping six other local dealers. (Not all was true of every dealer)
    1. Phone calls not promptly returned. ("Sorry - but we've been busy")
    2. No help applying for the required building permit. (Permit? You're on your own")
    3. No firm installation cost. ("Additional charges may apply")
    3. Large non-refundable deposit with no firm installation date.
    4. Skimpy contract (less than the NYS requirement)
    6. Manufacturers rebates, discounts or coupons not honored unless pressed on the matter.
    7. Unclear how service or warranty issues will be handled.

Fortunately I had none of the above problems with Hearth & Home. More to the point, they seemed sincerely interested in my business, made a prompt and thorough in-home visit, offered sensible suggestions as to the best product, and required only a modest down payment on a handshake. The price was locked in and the contract specified a installation date range. Their in-house installers perform the yearly maintenance as well as any warranty issues.
Shop around, but don't be blinded by the lowest price. You get what you pay for.

Quick contact by phone, responded to email as well, and scheduled to come out. Came to the home on time, did what we asked, and then took on a second house as well. Total cost at about $200. I'd hire again, complete professional.

David does really good work, honest, reasonable and easy to work with.  Where previous contractors could not find roof leak, David knew exactly what to do which saved a lot of headache of repeat leakage and ceiling patching.
The side walk need several pieces of limestone replaced.  David made the side walk look like it had always been there.  It was a good job.
The roof cleaning looks good and pressure washing was all done to satisfaction.  The swing set turned  out great considering how dirty and aged it is.
The job was estimated very accurately and I am very pleased with David's work and attention to detail, work quality and ethics.
David was busy and had to work with the weather yet still he was able to do the work I needed before placing my house on the market.  Be patient...he's well worth the wait!

I called MrChimneyman to clean my chimney. When David started the work he informed me that I had had a chimney fire. I had a bad experience a number of years ago with a disreputable chimney service ( they tried to sell me the wrong type of liner and there was nothing wrong with the liner at the time) so I was quite leary. But I could see the damage myself so there was no question that the assessment was accurate. Because of the fire, I filed an insurance claim and David worked with the adjuster to ensure that the claim was processed quickly. I did not have to worry about providing the technical details about the damage - that was included in the documentation Davide supplied to the insurance company. The repairs were completed without a hitch. There was never a time when I did not have use of the chimney. And...David left the area around the chimney cleaner than he found it!!
David also recommended and installed a new wood burning stove. He explained why the modern appliances are so much better than the dinosaur I had. I am very happy with the woodstove he recommended.
The best thing about the way David deals with customers is that he explains everything - but not as a salepitch. He provides options where he can and does what the customer wants. I felt that I could make informed decisions based on the information he provided ( I also went on the internet to learn more about chimneys, liners, etc. and at the same time got confirmation that everything David told me was valid).
David did the repair very quickly and efficiently and the quality of the work is excellent. He has a great deal of expertise and was able to provide alternatives when issues arose because of the age of the house. I found David to be very trustworthy which is critical when dealing with a chimney repair. He is also just a really nice guy.
Although the repair was covered by insurance, the price was very reasonable.
I have already recommended David to a number of people.

Dave responded with an appointment the same day we called. Was super-thorough in what he did, and explained not just what he was doing but why. Provided a lot of extra information, such as on the quality of workmanship of our chimney construction, airflow supply for the fireplace, and how to improve efficiency. After we asked, he explained and showed examples of possible upgrades one could buy (not from him) for fireplace inserts.

David  returned calls and showed at all appointed times. He began work promptly and worked in very inclement weather to complete job on time. He built scaffolding and pulled wall to see what was behind. We then saw it had large rock fill behind it, instead of the dirt fill we expected. He pitched patio to center point and installed a scupper type drain there with concrete as he built the wall back up. It took 3 days to complete. He backed his work with a warranty.
