    Limitless Golden Construction
Christian and his crew were excellent from day one, inquired online and Christian came by that day for a quote walked us through everything thoroughly. When it came time for the job to start they started earlier than expected as the job went on everything went smooth with some rain coming in the forecast Christian and his crew worked late into the night to get things done. Would definitely hire them again for any of our needs

    Envirostar Corp
Mark DiBartolo, an Envirostar VP, came to my house in late September to prepare an estimate. At that time he also explained in detail the entire process. We also explored alternative locations for the placement of the new, above ground tank and discussed the pros and cons of each. Mark mailed a detailed estimate a few days later. I considered his estimated cost to be quite reasonable and accepted his proposal. I would contact him to begin work in mid December when I had drawn down the fuel oil inventory in my 550 gallon tank sufficiently such that the remainer could be pumped into the new 275 gallon tank with minimum excess.
Work began a couple of days after I contacted Mark and would have been completed in one day had the old tank been free of holes which were discovered after lifting the tank from the ground. This changed everything as now we were dealing with an oil leak situation which had to be reported to the DEC. Mark explained the next steps and advised us to contact our insurance company right away as we might be covered for such an event. We had our home owners policy for many years and the original policy would have provided coverage. However, the policy was amended several years later to exclude coverage for leaking fuel tanks. We would be covered if soil sample tests showed that the leak began prior to the amendment. Fortunately for me that was the case and our insurance company advised that they would provide coverage.
Envirostar began the required cleanup work a couple of days later. In under two weeks Envirostar completed the work. The workers showed up promptly each morning and worked non stop all day. They were curteous and professional and tried their best to minimze damage to my propery. I was more than pleased with every aspect of their performance. I consider myself fortunate for having chosen Envirostar  for this job and would highly recommend them to anyone considereing having their underground fuel oil tank removed.

    Connecticut Basement Systems
From day one they were very professional and courteous.  I sent my inquiry in via the website and got a call back the same day. The office schedules an inspection and in the mean time, they mail an information package and educational book (its a sales pitch but does have very good and mostly honest info).  The salesman / inspector was scheduled to come to the house and the lead time was 4 weeks.  This is a bit long but I was shopping this project around so I decided to be patient, especially due to the good reviews on this site and from a co-worker who had it done 10 years ago.
Of the 6 companies I had come to see the space and give me their proposal, CT basement systems's inspector Ralph came with the least amount of pressure (actually none). He presented to me their solution to solve my issues and didn't try to up sell me on anything.  He Explained the options available and gave me the information I needed to make the decision for myself. He answered my follow up emails and questions promptly and with detail.
Before I continue let me explain the issues I was experiencing in my basement....
    - water entering around floor to wall joint during rain storms and snow melt periods.
    - water entering through stone foundation walls during heavy rain and snow melt.
-water entering through foundation wall of front porch about 1 foot below grade (in the basement the porch has a crawl space and not a full height basement).
-always very humid  and musty smelling even with a dehumidifier running.
-We live near a lake so we have a high water table in this area.
Once i had all my proposals in hand (from excavating around the house to various versions of interior french drain/sump pump systems), i based my decision on the following criteria:
    -number of years in business
    -Financing Options
Basement Systems was NOT the lowest number nor were they the highest.  I chose them because:
-Great reputation and reviews both on Angie's list, via a google search and from co-worker (and Bob Villa ha ah)
-Over 20 years in business (important when a company is issuing a warranty as its only as good as long as they are in business).
-A life time transferable warranty against floor joint and wall leaks.
    -Available/ Good financing options
    -Triple Safe pump system.
-Ralph (the salesman/project manager) told it to me straight with no filler and didn't try to up sell me on anything.
Scheduling was quick and painless, however, it was 2 months away. Again I didn't like the lead time but I was patient as i felt they were the right company for the job.  The lead time allowed me to get some things ready in the basement before they came.
While you wait, they send out an information package on the electrical requirements recommended to run the pumps, a note on the dust that will be created during the installation as well as a form to fill out with an area to write notes to the foreman.  I filled it out and sent it in.
I received a call 1 business day before the scheduled date to confirm the appointment.
The crew arrived on time as promised. Initially, I walked the space with the foreman and told him my water issues, concerns and pointed out areas to be EXTRA careful (.i e. Around water main)- he listened to me well and passed the information on to his crew - before any work started and before the crew entered the work area.
They worked very efficiently and hard. The foreman was, what we call in the trades, a "non working foreman"... This means that his primary responsibility is to supervise his crew and make sure they are installing correctly.  He did do some of the more difficult or critical installation items such as: setting up the triple safe pump/battery system, piping, and even set the pace by jack hammering along with the men at the beginning.  They took (1) break for lunch.
The foreman would periodically come get me and show me what they were doing and explain why.  I liked this.
At the end of the job the space was left broom swept clean and neat.  The foreman walked me through the triple safe pump system and how the components worked.  He showed me the 12 volt dc battery back up system and marine battery.  They left nothing behind.
The ONLY ISSUES I had were:
    - they did not install the clean space wall covering about 3 feet wide (floor to ceiling) at the chimney location where the boiler exhaust pipe comes into the masonry.  When i asked the foreman why, he told me that they normally do not install it there as the pipe gets too hot.  I let it go as i figured they must have ran out of material.
    - Later in the night i also noticed that they did not seal around the pipes that come through the wall and penetrate the clean space.
That night I wrote Ralph an email with photos showing and listing my concerns/ punch list.  I also pointed out that on the proposal document, it showed clean space in the location where it was left out.  The next morning i called the office and explained my concerns.  The woman listened to my concerns and took notes.  She told me that the service department would handle the punch list and said that she needed to put me on a brief hold so that she could get the service manager up to speed before transferring me to the service department.
The service manager was kind and listened well.  She did NOT make any excuses, argue or trivialize my concerns.  She asked a few questions to make sure the tech had everything he needed to finish the same day.  She initially told me they were booked until mid October and that's when I kindly explained that i would be holding payment until i received what was agreed to in the contract.  A tech was scheduled for the following Saturday (a week and a half away).  By  this time Ralph had answered back via email (less than 24hrs time) and i told him i called the office and they were taking care of it.
The tech arrived on time, was very friendly and courteous and completed the punch list in about an hour.
No more wet basement and the dehumidifier is working MUCH more efficiently and running less.  The house feels less humid up stairs and the basement space looks better too (clean space is WHITE).
CT Basement Systems comes HIGHLY Recommended.

    Vulcan Basement Waterproofing
We get water into our basement. Not to the point of flooding but certiantly to the point of where we do not want to finish our basement until the issues are resolved. We have been talking to various different contracts about their solutions. Some reccomend exterior excavation, others say they can deal with it from the interior. We decieded to give Vulcan a call to see what they were all about after reading through their website via a google search. The scheduler said that they would sent someone to perform a free inspection
Salesmen was 1 hour early and I need to rush home to meet him. They originally canceled their original appointment for which i had already rescheduled a doctor's appointment - no sweat though, it happens.
He spent about 2-3 minutes and quot;inspectingand quot; the property and asked me if I could help him measure the basement. He took the total linear footage and created a price based off of a linear foot price - typical. He spent no time explaining how the system would work, rather he did explain what they would do. Simply put - it is a french drain at the base of the foundation where the floor meets the wall and the water runs to a sump pump and is expelled.
When I asked about the sump'slocation (thinking ahead to finshing the basement) he said it was best to allow his foreman with and quot;30 years of experienceand quot; to make the final decision where it would go. Let me just say that I work for one of the Nations' leaders in commercial waterproofing/roofing and to me this is the old and quot;let me put it where it is easiest for my crewand quot; type method.
The sales guy was pushy to get me to sign right that moment. When I asked him about their 10yr garrantee and if it covered water entering via the walls he said yes. After reading the and quot;contractand quot; it clearly stated that this was EXCLUDED from their garrantee. When I called him out on it he said he would and quot;write it inand quot; and thats when I thanked him for his time and asked him to leave. He didnt have any technical insight as to how their and quot;pressure relief systemand quot; worked other than it brought water to a sump and pumped it out. He told me he would give me 3 days to decide or the price would go up and I told him that was great. I already knew i wasnt going to let anyone from this company anywhere near my house ever.
If you go on to read their terms and condtions on their contract you will learn that they exclude any damage to your home or its components before, durring or after the installation. In other words, let's say for instance they damage your water line while jackhamering out the floor - you are responsible for it.
    The salesman also made it a point to show me a stack of emails from and quot;staisfied customersand quot; and then told me how they've worked at JFK international airport as if i was to be impressed (i've worked there too so its no surprise or awe to me). He also couldnt tell me how their situation (jfk) was similar to my situation and how their system would benifit me and my house's needs. All he could do was try to sell me their system and use the garruntee as a sales method to get me to sign. The old and quot;hey if it doesnt work, we'll be back until it does.and quot;

    Basement Solutions LLC
The crew arrived around 8:30 AM and got immediately to work draping the basement contents with plastic and sealing off the basement door. Dust was kept to a minimum. They worked constantly, and were cordial when I went to check on the work. It was finished in 2 days and the crew cleaned up everything before they left.

    Esposito Builders, Inc.
House was built very well, Good quality, provided GE Profile appliances. Put washer and dryer in upstairs closet and slightly altered downstairs mudroom and dining room accordingly. Didn't attach dryer well; angle of vent hose doesn't allow for good ventilation, so this results in lots of lint build-up, which entails pulling out the dryer and cleaning out the hose. This has to be done every few months. In addition, there was a and quot;flapand quot; on a hose up in the attic that became wet and gunky w/lint. A repairman said it should not have been there.
I wanted another fireplace in the living room (there is one in the family room), a shower stall in addition to the tub in the hall bath upstairs, and a built-out tile seat in the master shower stall, but Doug Esposito quoted us exorbitant prices to do these things, so we didn't (and I regret it). The taping in the master bedroom and bath had to be touched up about a year after we'd been living here, but now it needs retaping again. Don't know if this is par for the course, but it just seems a little too soon for things to be coming off.
Since Esposito Builders still own our street, they are responsible for mowing along the road and snow removal. They don't really mow too often, and when it snows, or particularly when it's icy, sometimes it takes them a while to get up here and remove the stuff. They're better than they used to be though (probably because we neighbors have bugged them a lot!).
All in all, very well built house and I can say that now that we are finishing our basement, the electrician said he was impressed with the way the Esposito electrician (whoever he may have been) did the wiring and made cable available in every room; he says he only sees that kind of work in extremely high-end construction.

    Mid-Atlantic Waterproofing of NY
Overall the work was done well and timely, however the cost was way way too much. The salesman used the gimmick of getting us to decide soon before a certain date or we would no longer be able to get interest free financing. He told us that his company was the only one that offered the interest free financing. I have since found out that other companies offer the interest free financing and would charge much less. Also the salesman really scared us about our foundation collapsing, which was probably very unlikely. Even if it did have problems the cost to fix the foundation probably would have been less than what we paid to have this system put in.

M Villa & Sons Construction Inc
I hired Manuel Villa originally to build a retaining wall for my basement and then asked them to finish a concrete floor for my basement too. their work was priced reasonably and well done. a team of three were working on this project and they finished everything in just two long days! the size of the wall was 15 by 5 feet in L shape that involved a lot of digging, braking and disposing of a 400 pounds rock... the concrete floor job consisted of digging a 20 by 20 feet. it was a lot of heavy duty labor. beside the fact that they told me that they will start at a certain day but they didn't show up nor called. when i called they said they has an issue with their truck. and then they said they will come the next day between 8 and 9 by they showed up at 10. because they knew they had to finish by sunday and they would need 3 or 4 days. they made sure to be done sunday and they even worked until 7pm. once they are working they are extremely professional. i highly recommend them. they do have workers comp insurance and they did give me a copy of their insurance issued for my property by their insurance broker.
