    Knockout Masonry Corp
We hired Knockout to re-do our driveway with pavers after a previous contractor botched the job. Jimmy was very punctual and professional on the day of the initial review and provided me a detailed quote within 24 hours. He answered all my questions and managed my expectations which was important to me as I had been burned before. He was also very helpful and knowledgeable when it came to selecting colors and materials for the design. He was able to expedite his schedule and started much earlier than expected which was appreciated. From start to finish the job took 3 days; quicker than the 5-7 days he initially quoted me. He had enough manpower and equipment on site enabling the work to get done very efficiently. My driveway came out better than I could hope for and it looks like it will last forever! I highly recommend Jimmy and his guys and I'll know who to call for my next masonry job!

    • Calling Joe the first time, he immediately arranged to see the job.  I was impressed of his quick response. We agreed with the price he quoted, and i thought it was reasonable.  After I decided with the color of the pavers, it took him 2 days to start the work.  His workers were knowledgeable, answered our questions, and did the job professionally.  One of our neighbors commented that JB Contracting was the most professional company who have worked in our street so far, and there's no doubt not to hire them.  I am thankful of finding JB Contracting thru Angie's list.  And I will definitely hire them again for any contracting jobs that we need done.

It went well with them. They were good, responsive, friendly, and quick. They did promise that they are going to help with kind of repairing the area because there was a massive tree and help with clean the soil back in and stuff and they did an okay job with that. The removal was great but the actual like mending what happens after was not that great. We have to do a lot of it ourselves like go buy more grass, a new soil. We called them to follow up and let them know that we haven't seen any improvement with that area because there was a massive hole. It takes time and so we decided to fix it ourselves. They were definitely calm, responsive in the beginning with the actual tree removal. I guess, once we made the payment, it's really hard to get them to follow up.

Craig and his team couldn't be more professional and delightful to work with. We don't yet live in the house so we know our neighbors only a bit. One of the neighbors commented that they know we will be good neighbors because the guys we hired to work on the yard were so nice. Always on time, always working when I dropped by unexpectedly, and the job they have done so far is first class. We will be having them back to complete the job once the renovation on the house is underway.

Joe worked with us to understand all of our needs, and to negotiate a fair price for everything.  The only headache was that they gave us notice late on the evening before the start of work to try to save space for a dumpster in front of the house.  Since alternate side parking on our street had ended, and parking here is difficult, we had a hard time saving space.  In the end, they brought a dumptruck instead of a dumpster, so the large space we reserved wasn't entirely needed.
The team began the job on-time, and worked very efficiently and neatly.  Day 1 saw the entire driveway broken up and hauled away, the silt pits dug, and the cobblestone divider set in place.  Day 2 saw the installation of the drainage pipe, pouring of the cement, and the filling of the gaps between the cobblestones.  My neighbor complained about the work, and some splattered cement, but the foreman handled everything very professionally and calmly.  Day 3 saw a crew member return to power wash the entire driveway and bordering concrete areas, as well as my neighbor's side of the shared driveway.  Upon noting that some staining was still visible, Joe sent another powerwasher to do the clean up again.
In all, we had no cause for complaint with the team on-site, or Joe and his office team.  The cement looks terrific, and the drains and drainage pipe handle rainfall better than the prior set-up.

I haven’t started the work yet but he was very professional.  He missed the first appointment date but he called to apologize and said it wasn’t on his calendar for some reason; I totally know how that happens.  I like that he called to apologize and fess up to missing the appointment.  When he called, he seemed knowledgeable and professional, and he was more forthcoming than others have been.

Two men came and they were on time, but they seemed relatively unprepared; they didn’t have books to show me examples of what they could do.  They told me they would get back to me but they never did.

Lenny was really easy to talk with. I gave him a rough guess on the size of the driveway, and he did a quick calculation for me of labor and materials, offering a general range from less expensive to more expensive materials. He kinda reminded of those guys you see hosting those DIY Network shows(which I *love* to watch. I wonder if professionals think those people on TV are lame.) No sales pressure, very frank and upfront style. Like the other companies I had called last month, their attitude was like, "If you want us to do this job later, no problem. Whenever you're ready." I'm happy that Angie's List has companies that are good like that. Of course, if I happen to find a house that doesn't need work, well, you know it's easier to go that route....

    System Pavers
The finished product exceeded our best expectations. We thought that the work was done well and it was done on time. They actually finished quicker than they had estimated. They used sub-contractors, and the work that our sub-contractor did was good. There was an issue with the subcontractor at the end, but System Pavers solved the issue to our satisfaction. The subcontractor also did some extra work that made the project turn out even more beautifully than we had anticipated. The problem I have is with their canned required sales pitch that they do. They come in and take the measurements, and they then give you a very, very high initial estimate. They then greatly reduce the cost if you are willing to put up a sign and write letters of recommendation. I was personally offended by this tactic. You have to be willing to get past their ridiculous sales tactics, although we finally did arrive at a reasonable and competitive price. This was the second time we had them out for a bid, we advised them that we had no need to sit through the videos and struggle through the sales pitch again. However, they said they were required to go through the steps. The work that they did was wonderful, and the final project was far beyond what we had expected. However, the agony of getting to the final price was difficult to deal with. What they ended up delivering was stellar, but their sales pitch is excruciating and insulting. I would recommend them, with the caveat that their sales pitch is absolutely terrible but the work is great.

This was the first time I had used their services. They spent the week here. They would show up late and then stand around and wait for the boss. They did not come prepared and would need to use our stuff. They did not come prepared and constantly had to be watched. The boss was always trying to add stuff to the estimate.
