Cabinet Making reviews in Long Island City

They were great at adapting to a larger than anticipated project scope (we decided to install a washer and dryer, which meant lots of electrical and plumbing work) and getting the necessary paperwork/permits for the co-op board.

    John Santiago Interiors
We just used JSI for a big renovation project in our coop apartment on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. We combined two units together to create a 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom with laundry room and separate den/playroom, and we ended up ding an almost full gut renovation of the entire combined space while living there. The entire project took 6 months (including the addition of a second bathroom renovation which was not part of the original plan), and I can honestly say this was the smoothest renovation project Ive ever been through. Lorenzo and his team were skilled, efficient, honest and hard working. They arrived promptly at 9 AM every day and left a 5 PM every day, as per our coop rules. They respected all of the other strict coop rules, followed all of the coops procedures, and our resident manager and building management said they were one of the best contractors theyve worked with. Navigating coop rules for alterations and construction can be a bit of a headache, so the fact that John, Lorenzo and their team could make this part smooth and problem-free was a huge help. Additionally, because we were living in the apartment during the construction, John and Lorenzo were helpful in protecting our living spaces while the work was going on, and were extremely patient with our many requests and questions about the various transitions between work stages, and they were so respectful of our privacy and safety, as we have two young children and wanted to ensure that the production and existence of dust, debris and other dangerous items was controlled. Lorenzo and his team were professional and courteous and nice to our children and caregivers. In terms of the end result of the work, they did a beautiful job. We basically gut renovated the apartment, including a total renovation of two full bathrooms, the creation of a laundry room (with a sink), creation of hallways, new flooring, and bedrooms and closets. We used extremely delicate and high-end marble for the entirety of both bathroom walls and floors, and the work that Lorenzo and his team did on the marble was meticulous and beautiful. The paint job was also very good, as was the carpentry. Any issues we discovered were addressed promptly. My favorite part about working with John was how responsive he was. He answered texts, emails and phone calls promptly. He was genuine and really cared about the quality of the service and the work. And thats not something that should be considered lightly, as my past experiences of working with contractors and other service providers was quite the opposite. John was honest and direct about issues, timelines, tactics, etc. John was also on the job site at least once a week throughout most of the project checking on progress, keeping in communication with our building management and super, and would come to the city on an ad hoc basis whenever we requested. We strongly recommend John Santiago Interiors, in particular Lorenzo and his team. We have absolutely nothing negative to say about them as they made an inherently difficult situation as smooth and pain free as possible. We were sad to see them go!

    Kabinet King
I purchased $11,100.66 worth of semi-custom white Waypoint kitchen cabinets  from Kabinet King on 5/14/15 from salesman Michael.  Part of the order was $417 worth of 2.5" crown molding which I was not able to use due to ceiling being uneven.  If Michael had told me this could present a problem when he sold me the cabinets,  I would not have bought it.  When I tried to return it, he said his boss at Kabinet King would not take it back.  I also wrote an email to Karen at Kabinet King complaining about this but no one ever called or answered my email.  I just want to point out that I'm very happy w/the cabinets.  My new kitchen is beautiful even though our carpenter had to put in square molding in place of the crown molding.  I just feel that in the interest of good customer service, they should take back the unused crown molding & reimburse me.  I am willing to deliver it back to them.

Excellent work, as I've come to expect from Progress. Ivan and Roman are always prompt, professional, and show an attention to detail that some others lack. My project became complicated when they took down the old cabinets and the 70 year old walls came down with them. They put up new insulation and drywall, then fixed the plumbing, put down a new tile floor, installed new cabinets, installed microwave/hood, installed under cabinet lighting, and put up a tile backsplash. They have done other projects for me in the past but this is the biggest one so far, and they did not disappoint. I love the new kitchen. Beautiful job.

    Connection & Contracting
As first time homeowners, we didn't know what to expect from working with a contractor. We had a long list of things that needed to be done to our house but weren't sure what to do first or how much we could afford. From our first meeting, David put us at ease. His advice: let's start with one project and see how we enjoy working together -- if you're happy with my work, we'll keep going and tackle the rest. And that's how it went. Throughout the process, David was extremely responsive to our questions and concerns, sometimes meeting with us every day. He was also great about keeping us informed with texts, phone calls and photos. When unexpected issues came up (a rusted heating pipe, a rotted joist) he gave us options on how to resolve them. When we needed advice, he gave us his opinion. And when we needed to change plans, he accommodated us. In the end, everything turned out even better than we expected. And when we tackle our next project, we'll definitely call David and Connection@Contracting.

    AKI Cabinets
The wood split on the doors.  I called the cabinet manufacturer (Cubitac) and he said he would call AKI Cabinets. He called them, the cabinet manufacturer called me back and asked for pictures.  I heard back from Mike.  They're looking into the size of the doors that now need to be replaced. Before all of this, I had to do all the leg work, they wouldn't reply. Cubitac was more than willing to replace the cabinets.  It was AKI (Mike) who was putting me off and dragging his heels because of employee problems which are not my problems.  Buyer beware!  Use another cabinet supplier!  I will let everyone know the final outcome.

They contacted me on 2/5/15 to let me know that the new doors were in. When they came on 2/7/15, they didn't bring the proper clips, and two of the replacement doors were also split. Since then, I have not heard anything back from AKI Cabinets.

They finally came to adjust all doors and replace new ones (2). Some of the doors could not be adjusted to close properly so this will have to do. If not for Ifram's efforts (who is not the owner) or cabinet installer, this never would have happened. They still will not give me a warranty claiming at the time of the sale it was not requested.

Bottom line- DON'T use the company ever. I made a costly mistake don't you do what I did.

    AKI Cabinets
Overall I had an excellent experience hiring Aki as a general contractor (specifically I dealt with Frankie, who was very responsive and had great ideas for the space). This contractor is unique in that they are in the construction, cabinet-making, and countertop businesses (most other contractors I talked to required me to hire others for cabinets and countertops). The price that they quoted for my project was the lowest by far, and they stuck to that quote exactly (no charge for extras). They handled coordination of the plumbing, electrical, cabinet-making, countertops, etc., and were able to finish the project remarkably fast. They started the project the day after I left the deposit and 90% of the project was finished within 3 weeks of hiring Aki (including kitchen cabinets and countertops, which is remarkable). If I have one complaint, the quality of the work and materials were not top notch, but that is understandable considering other contractors quoted prices 2-3 times what I was charged by Aki. Those savings were more than worth putting up with a few minor mistakes and issues. If you have an unlimited budget and demand the highest craftsmanship I would look elsewhere, if you are on a budget and want the most bang for your buck, I would hire Aki. Will definitely go back to them for any future projects.

    Manhattan Cabinet, Inc.

My experience with Zee was truly positive.  His expertise and knowledge of kitchen design and materials is priceless.  Since my kitchen was small with celing beams, I needed to find someone who could visualize the type of kitchen that was imbedded in my mind.  I didn't want to just have the old cabinets replaced with new cabinets.  I needed to have a functional kitchen in the space allotted.  He took my basic idea, ran with it and created a sharp, modern, jaw-dropping kitchen.

    John Santiago Interiors
John worked with us from the beginning to design our new kitchen and get everything on our "wish list" included within our planned budget. We knew in advance what the total cost would be for all labor and materials, excluding only the appliances, which we purchased separately. John stuck exactly to the budget, even working around some unexpected difficulties (we have an old house) at no extra charge. We were very impressed by every member of his crew. They were kind, pleasant, patient and did excellent work. They communicated with us each day about the progress, expected schedule, and anything we should be aware of during the process. The job finished on time and follow up service has been wonderful, with John checking in to be sure everything is satisfactory. The work done is beautiful and all materials are high quality. We are completely happy and will definitely call John again for future projects. We had an excellent experience and highly recommend JSI. And I LOVE my new kitchen!
