Appliance Repair reviews in Long Island City

I am a property manager in NYC so I have 100’s of apartments and therefore 100’s of appliances to maintain. I have used Imperial Appliance exclusively for over 5 years to service and maintain all of the appliances in my portfolio - quite frankly, because they are the best in the city. The owner, Gus, is a step above other technicians because he’s honest, capable and a great communicator. Being a property manager who relies others to help me fix problems, it is a gift to find companies who you can trust to do the right thing and fix the problem. Highly recommend!

Brilliant. Called the company within an hour of submitting online forms; they were already familiar with my query & requested photos to positively identify the cooktop manufacturer. (Had no idea myself; it came with the house.) By day’s end, set an appointment for a consultation with Carlita (The Stove Lady herself!) within 2 days, which was great as I live an hour by NJ road from their shop. Repair was completed in-home as estimated, a few days later (after separate plumbers installed necessary gas shut-off valve); technician Amir was professional, low-key & efficient. I’m so grateful for their expertise & honesty; while not necessarily a vintage buff, I’m glad to repair instead of replace. They really did a great job. And if we choose to do a like-new restoration as part of a future kitchen update, I’ll hire them to do it.

Our refrigerator ceased working on a Friday while I was at work. Called Pablo at 9am on Saturday morning. He was the only one of the “open” businesses that I called who actually answered his phone. He gave us a reasonable timeline for a service window, called when he was on the way, and then arrived on time! He was able to fix the motherboard by 2pm and made sure I knew when to expect the fridge to be fully cooled down. Maybe not the cheapest (husband grumbled a bit about the price of the necessary part), but for a last minute repair on a Saturday, I’d say it was worth it. If only I had been able to call him on Friday, we might have been able to save the milk!

Steve was prompt, responsive, and friendly. He identified the problem on the first visit correctly, and scheduled the second visit right away. He arrived on time, fixed the issue, showed me what he had done, tested the dishwasher to make sure it was indeed working well and quickly was on his way. I liked that he took the time to show me the parts, so I understood what had been causing the problem.

The person came on time. Assessed the damage, quoted us $100, said he would be back tomorrow with the part needed. He showed up tomorrow and said it's going to be $100 for the part plus labor. We argued that it was never said to us that the labor will be separate from the part - we were quoted $100 for the repair and we agreed to it. At the end, the repair person fixed the dishwasher and didn't charge us anything additional. So we ended up paying $100 for the repair, just like we agreed the first time, but it was stressful and we had to "fight for it".

Getting help from Steve was a pleasure. My refrigerator was making raucous noises and holding a temperature of 50 degrees over a weekend. Steve came, repaired it is less than an hour, and charged a very reasonable fee. Now the refrigerator is humming along at 37 degrees.

It is not the first time that we call Steve to fix appliances, based on the reviews he has, and the experience we have with his services.
I called him this time for a dishwasher issue, and since I also had a non-critical but annoying issue with the refrigerator/freezer, I took the opportunity to submit it to him too.
The dishwasher was not washing very well, and the upper rack was not cleaning at all.
When Steve heard the issue, he knew exactly and right away the likely culprit, and methodically went about it. His guess was a 'bull's eye".  The culprit was a damaged "dirt breaker" in the bottom of the dishwasher, preventing the water to circulate properly during the washing (missing grinding blades and dirt). After the fix, it works better (almost as new) and more silently.  He also offered his advice about avoiding the issue in the future, such as 'cleaning' the dishes before the dish-washing. (we could see the kind of dirt that was there).
    Cost $120.00
I asked him about the refrigerator issue, since he was in. He proposed to do it during another session (longer job and unplanned job, since I had not mentioned it during my tel call). Since it was not critical, and not an emergency, we agreed.
1 week later, he came and took care of the issue:
    - issue : Recent fridge (about 1.5 year old) started to leak some water on the floor , every 2 weeks (the bypass was to eliminate the accumulated hard ice in the bottom of the freezer about every 10 days). Again Steve knew the exact cause, considers it a chronic default of some "Maytag" fridges. After having seen him fix it, I totally agree with his opinion, and I consider it a "faulty design". he unclogged the frozen drain, inserted a piece to keep the drain warm during "de-freesing", allowing the water to drain rather than freeze and clog, and removing the rubber part which probably triggered the whole phenomenon.
Though he could have left the accumulated dirty water resulting from the melt in the evaporator, he removed it.
Repair cost $210.00 (a lot of time was spent in accessing the proper areas and melting the accumulated ice).
    Steve is pleasant and polite.
Steve is extremely logical and efficient in his approach. He carries the tools that he needs for his job, even if unconventional.
He leaves things in a clean state.
He will also offer his advice about your appliance and its issue if you are interested in it and willing to hear it.
He also made sure that the things were working after he left (though we will have to wait for 2 weeks to confirm the fix of the water leak).
Note: He will not violate parking rules, or double-park. He seems to appreciate when there is available parking on the block, or on the drive-way (true only during week-ends in our neighbourhood).

We had an appt to examine refrigeration scheduled at 1:00 pm.  At 1:30 we called to find out how close they were to arriving at our location.  We were told by the dispatcher that they were close by and would arrive shortly.  At 2:30 (ninety minutes after our scheduled appt time) we called again and the p hone went to voicemail.  After waiting two full hours we never heard back from them.  In short, they were unreliable, irresponsible, unprofessional and deceptive.  It was a complete waste of our time and this is not a company we will consider using.

by the way they make the appliances these days to get to something would have been cheaper for me to buy a new than to fix the one I had which was ten years old... so I did thank god for angie's list because for him to do what he did would have cost me the same for a new

Eddie first tried to fix the current pump.  When it was apparent that it needed to be replaced he ordered the new part and came out again to install the pump.  We were very pleased with his work and repairs.
