Solar Panel Installation reviews in Levittown

    NY State Solar
Jason Hawes of NY State Solar was, and is, most helpful in explaining the system and financial options. Saw the project through from beginning to end. As I come up with questions, he continues to answer promptly and be of great help..,

    SunPower by EmPower Solar
everyone in the company was very helpful. The sales person was very thorough in his presentation and answered all questions from the start of the program, through all the loans, to the product delivery to installation. The installers put the system together in on day, we have over 20 panels, so that was impressive. Workers were polite and let the place completely cleaned when they were done. I don't know of anything they could have done to make this a better experience.

    SolarCity
We ended up not having any panels installed.  The company employees were nice, but there were a couple of factors that I found to be a bit misleading.  When trying to show us the cost savings of switching to solar, they only used 1 of our electric bills as a comparison, but we found out the next month that our rate actually fluxuates monthly and would drop below the rate of $.15/kwh.  We had to find this out on our own instead of Solar City letting us know it could be the case.  They also did not point out to us that in addition to the panels on our roof we woudl have to have boxes installed around the house.  These boxes would have been kind of unsightly so we decided it wasn't what we wanted.

Please beware of this company.  If you contract with them, make sure you keep
all correspondences and your bill of sale in a safe place for any future
needs.  If you already had a solar system
installed by them, make sure you can find your contract and bill of sale and
keep them in a safe place.  Also, do your
research on the materials and installation they plan to use.  Contact the manufacturer for the product
manual and installation guide.  You will
need to be your own quality inspector for the installation.  I learned the hard way, and I have paid
dearly.  I am passing along my  experience to keep this from happening to
others.  This company has managed to get
away from responsibility on my issue, I don't want to see that happen again to
    other hard working individuals.  When
deciding to install a solar heater, weigh all other options you may have
    including gas, propane and electric.
Yes, solar is free, when done correctly.  Remember, solar installed on your roof is 24
    hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year.
Damage does not take a day off, or season.  Rain, snow, ice and wind can impact the
    installation if not done correctly.
Winter or summer, it doesn't matter. Other forms of heating are under
your control and start and stop only as long as you keep your pool open.
Due to a wrong installation, over time water from rain and
snow seeped into my house causing extensive damage.  It apparently had been going on over the years
since installation but was amplified and showed itself in the house after this
past severe winter.  So I called the
company, and they said they were not the same company that did the
installation.  The new owner says he took
over the company some years back.  To me
that means purchased the assets and the problems.  Someone has been sending me yearly reminders
to have the system shut down at the end of each season, so they know I'm a
customer.  He said he'd send someone out
which he did.  The person who showed up
to look happened to be the same person who put it in.  Imagine that.
He explained what he did wrong and it was installed incorrectly.  He told me what was needed to be done to
correct it.  I should have had a tape
recorder because I spoke with the owner after speaking with the installer and
he denied he said that.  His deal was I
should call my insurance company and he'd call his.  Mine showed up within days, it took a while
before his showed.  Mine agreed that the
cause of the damage was faulty installation of the solar system which caused a
mold problem in the ceiling.  He
contacted ServPro who ripped out the entire room and had to scrub down the
joists, run fans and dehumidifiers for days until the mold was gone.  We apparently had mold growing there a few
years.  So not only did I have a
structure problem but health situation as well!!  All the contractors I contacted for the
repair agreed the damage was caused by the way the system was installed.
So, I needed to replace the roofing plywood and shingles as
well as all the sheet rock, windows, insulation and carpet.  $7759 in structural repairs later, the first
thing his insurance company wanted was the original bill of sale!  Of course, out of all the paperwork I saved
from the solar system, that's the one I don't have.  The second stupid thing I ever did was not saving
the bill of sale.  The first was putting
this thing on the roof in the first place, at least with this company.

It went good.  The sales guy was very good.  He told us what the solar panel is doing; taking some options.   They had repeat visits.   He answered all the questions.  We were pretty impressed.  The installation itself was very good.  They're professional and did a good job.  Overall it was a positive experience.

    Direct Energy Solar
Astrum Solar was one of our shortlists in choosing a Solar tie-in system. They were very competitively priced and actually cheaper than the company we signed with (SUNnation).
The main reason we dropped Astrum, was the complete lack of follow up and interest from them. After getting the roof measured (at their expense) I had to chase them for a quote; not once did a sales person visit me or phone me to follow up and it seemed that they had little or no interest in selling.
In contrast the sales rep from SUNnation kept in constant communication with us, was knowledgeable, professional, and this was the tipping point that made us decide on them (I will write their review once the work had been done).
I write this not as a 'bad' review, but a nudge so practices can hopefully be changed.
